Out of sheer curiosity, what's the dress-code like in clubs such as Fabric and other well-known places in the UK? If I ever visit, I'd like to know what to pack.

No dress-code (except for the douchebag places). I'm going to MoS in about an hour and wearing a v-neck t-shirt, chinos, and trainers.

Given this discussion is about dress codes in clubs in different parts of the world, I was wondering where exactly you go out and what kind of DJs are playing because these things tend to give a good indication of what kind of people turn up and what kind of party ensues. The kind of club you're describing is usually antithetical to "fucking great music", at least in my experience of clubbing in various places around Europe.

No, jack. You made it about me and not the discussion. I know you think you're a master wordsmith, but wide vocabulary does not equal quality of content, nor correct direction of argument.

You asked, I answered, but it didn't fit your closed minded and prejudiced narrative, so you attacked me.

Deep is probably one of the least douchey and most enthusiastic crowds I've ever been to. It's been running for over 15 years and pioneered deep house here in LA when it was this thing that most people said was too slow or weird. Marcus kept is going for all those years out of pure love and that's reflected by the crowd (typically over 25) and people make an effort because he has. I've been to over dozen of the events since I got here to LA, from industrial warehouse settings, to hollywood hotspots - the one thing you realize is the pure passion for the music which is always fantastic. It's the real fucking deal and has a nice bonus of having a crowd that appreciated it and make an effort.

So in essence jack, you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about. And this coming from the guy who would wax lyrical about John Digweed for years only to suddenly have it come out that you'd never actually seen him play.

You want to talk about prejudice? you're a walking definition.

None of this chin scratching, navel gazing that you seem to be be obsessed with. I bet you spend more time trying to recognise tracks played that you do actually enjoying yourself.

Then again, in your own words, you seem to think the idea of a night out is ending up as "goggled eye mess". Fun when I was 15 but then I grew out of it by maybe 20.

Don't miss read it. There's no sly about it. I was doing exactly that. It's not like you're on the Bedouin trail and have denounced all material goods is it. The fact you flip out and go in to attack mode when someone happens to mention their opinion that the state of personal attire or effort in many a club is sad these days is all about your own personal flaws and need for validation to tie yourself with a class that you perceive won't judge you.

Again, it's fine to admit you like nice things. Stop fighting it. I mean you like nice books, why not nice objects or nice clothes, or appreciate nice venues.

The truth is more prosaic, unfortunately, stemming simply from the fact you have a habit of turning every discussion, whether about street art or clubbing, into a not-so-covert dick measuring exercise. I'm sure it makes you feel fantastic to let everyone know that you can afford to "own and pay for nice things", but to me you just end up sounding like this.

I think it's far more telling that you actually infer that from a simple statement, such as that clubs used to have a dress code at least of some sort, but now don't, and I find that sad.

So what do you do? Try to find an angle to judge me on, like I'm only going to see SHM fistpump at Drais while you wear ironic T-shirts in subterranean basements listening to mnml techno.

Just because someone has a different perspective than you, doesn't make their view any less valid.

RANN, there are people posting in this thread who've been clubbing with me on numerous occasions. Why don't you ask the floor how I behave when I go clubbing?

No, I infer that from statements such as:

"If you don't have the budget, then fine, don't go to nice clubs. It's goes with the territory. They have to pay the bill somehow, and I don't mind paying. It's why some people like owning and paying for nice things."

But by all means, continue to write detailed psychological profiles explaining why it's everyone else's fault that you sound like a massive bell end.

Tell me what's wrong with that statement? I used to have fuck all and would obviously avoid the more expensive clubs then. You come accross as so insecure on this subject. I'm not bringing your financial situation in to question.

You read way too much of yourself in to other's statements to fit a preconceived narrative.

You keep making references to the male appendage and I can't help thinking the only person with dick measuring on the mind is you.

It makes you sound like a nouveau riche braggart who thinks anyone who "can't afford nice things" shouldn't go to the same clubs as him because they make the place look untidy.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea where to find these clubs you're talking about. When I go to a club it's because there's a DJ I want to see. I buy a ticket, I dress to dance all night, I do exactly that. I don't care what anyone looks like as long as they've got a big smile on their face and they're into the music. I was under the impression this is the usual pattern for clubbing everywhere. Maybe you get respectable DJs playing in swanky clubs somewhere in London, I dunno. I've never turned up to see a name DJ and found the venue was some glitzy dress-up club where you can rack up 100+ at the bar (short of being an alcoholic), and I've been clubbing up and down the UK in just about every major city. Hence my question about where you've been going and who you've been seeing.

You can fire wildly from the hip trying to second-guess me. Chin-stroking hipster? Insecure about his finances? Projecting his materialistic smugness? Has a small dick? Fuck it, unload everything you've got and hopefully you'll hit a nerve! Do you want to ask me about my mother while you're at it?

Again, I reiterate, from the moment you joined the thread you were quite obviously nudging the conversation around to pointing out that you can afford nice things and you unfortunately have to rub shoulders with those who can't. If you don't think that makes you sound like a prick then there ain't much more I can say.

Again, so much projection and false inference. I never once tied your finances to this discussion, but you keep wanting to go there, simply because it fits your small minded narrative in relation to money or enjoying aesthetics.

Like people who make an effort when you go out = must be an elistist bourgoise nouveau cvnt. If you're not dressed like a fucking tramp when you go out then then your a douchebag.

That's how your comments and analysis come across so I'm not going to apologize to you for having a different opinion or taste.

Have you ever considered that it doesn't have to be one thing or the other? It's not a finite thing. Good music and nice venue. Great DJ and well dressed people.

Nah, your question was to get a gotcha, like I was going to list some douchey club and you could then figuratively roll your eyes.

It sounds like you're going to wrong places, but having said that, the UK's clubscene really died several years ago so it's not hard to imagine why most clubs are quite shitty. I love the warehouse thing that's been going on in recent years in the UK, but the only big clubs left are MoS and Fabric, both had their heydays a decade ago.

Here in the states, sure maybe it's a lot less underground but people love going out and having a good time to good music. It's a lot more of an aesthetic society so it's understandable that people don't go for a big night out in what they'd wear to the gym or pub.

But get it out of your heard that it's about tacky valentino suits or tom ford velvet trousers. Again, there's more to life than polar extremes.

Nope, that's what your preconditioning based on prior spats we-ve had did to you. You did pointing all by yourself. I just said I find it sad that clubs used to have dress standards and now don't. It's not like I'm saying anything that didn't just a few years ago.

There wasn't a nice club in the UK that didn't turn people away for not making an effort. bagley's which was a shithole even didn't allow tariners. Passion Coleville, Speedqueen, Slinky - I could go on and on so it wasn't some conspiracy to keep the ugly out.

It was clubbing was an experience - music, people, socializing, etc- so clubs wanted you to at least make an effort. but the clubs become beggers, so they couldn't be choosers anymore and abandoned all the dress codes.

If you still can't see what I'm getting at then you'll never understand it. I'll go to places where a shirt would look stupid so obviously you don't bother, but a really nice venue, with a good looking crowd and great music? Make a fucking effort.

Why do you care how the other patrons are dressed?

I know that sounds like a stupid question to you, but try to answer it very seriously.

I've never understood why you new money people care so much about other people. It's one of the easiest signs that someone is new money - they judge other people on stupid shit. It always seems like new money people have this giant chip on their shoulders and need people to understand that they're richer and superior to others. But who gives a shit? Dress in whatever fucking way makes you happy. How does how other people dress impact you in any way whatsoever?

Wow.

Just Wow.

Posted by Lews on Mar-01-2015 00:46:

You've already admitted you're new money (as if it wasn't obvious from everything you say), so don't try to pretend you're offended by that. I'm legitimately curious why you care about how other people are dressed when you go clubbing. I 100% support people dressing appropriate for the occasion, but when you're going clubbing, isn't it about the music, not random strangers you won't talk to?

You're not very good with English, are you?

An aspersion is an attack on someone's integrity or reputation; I've done neither - merely asked why your view is the way it is.

A bigot is someone who is intolerant of those who hold other opinions. I've legitimately been inquiring as to your opinion to try to ascertain what it is - not exactly an action someone who was intolerant would do.

Keep avoiding my question, though.

How is this not casting aspersions on me:

If that isn't an attack on my reputation (the dictionary definition of aspersions) then I don't know what is.

I've told you my opinion and my entire argument here is that you two are completely intolerant of someone (my) opinion that it;s a sad state that clubs have no dress code as they once did. and by dress code I mean make a fucking effort. So if it's a drag club, get your 7 inch heels on and make sure that dress takes the attention off your cringeworthy face. If that's a nice club, put some nice clothes on.

hence, you're an acute example of a bigot. Geddit?

I'm not going to answer your asinine and childish question because it's both poised and tied to the assertion that I'm some nouveau riche elitist, which I'm not. I haven't once even mentioned my financial situation or lifestyle, yet you brand me with all this from me simply saying I like nice or well designed things.

You must go through life absolutely terrified of everything and everyone if you draw such hardened and evolved views on people from such little information.

So until you understand what I'm getting at (which requires you to do the work to understand that someone might actually have a different opinion to you on a given subject), then I'm not going to entertain such a dumb question, nor from such a dumb bigot.

I've watched a few Downton Abbey episodes so I can understand what's going on here.
