-- why does everyone say glow sucks????
Pages (4): « 1 2 3 [4]
i have been to club Space(miami) many times, but have never been to a club north of Atlanta,... those of you that have been to both Space and those other northern clubs (glow,arc,nation,roxy,etc...) please compare Space to those, b/c from what ive heard and seen from glow(i know very little about those other 3) it looks like a younger crowd, more casual dress code, and smaller... Space though allows cameras, has some seating that is more valuable than gold-basically somebody in your party needs to occupy the seat the whole night but its right on the dance floor so you are still right in the mix of the masses and is elevated a bit so you can see over everybody, has the outdoor patio to go and cool off and look up at the stars for a breather that everybody needs now and again, a really high dj booth(too high, can barely see some of the djs sometimes), the soundsystem is amazing-a tad loud though, good temperature esp. when the cooling jets shoot out, although im not the biggest fan of vip areas- its vip areas are massive(i saw P. Diddy last dec at while at PVD), and i like wandering around in the 4 rooms (blue[main], red, basement, and patio), ive heard that Space is the best club in the US, i have almost nothing to base that on but i cant disagree, list some pros and cons about those other clubs b/c i am quite curious, merci beaucoup

I used to walk around in there during Tiesto and I would hear pelpe saying'this guy is from europe, he must be good' or when Tony Draper was on I would hear 'Tiesto is playing some good stuff right now' That place needs to be burned down for the insurance money so Marvisis can get the hell out of NYC and ruin some other city. |
Then u have the guys that are trying way too hard with the sunglasses, spiky hair, and fcuk or a/x shirts.

The majority of the friday exit crowd is about congregating and getting into a K hole. The melting pot Glow crowd is more of a meat market pick up scene not so much about drugs. I'm all for a diverse crowd like Body and Soul but glow is filled with poor white trash skanks and sleaze balls making out and grinding on the dancefloor as if we are at a reggae club. | Originally posted by Busy Child that is so true. Glow is the only place you can be that close to a DJ in your LIFE. . . .unless youre a hot chixx. Cool thing about armin was that he was all about taking pics with the TAs. Some DJs would just do some half ass pose for a split second and run off but not Armin. This one guy that was taking a pic of Beema and Armin fucked up and he told the guy to take the pic again. Then he went and took that group with us. How cool is that? |

We will have to see if paul sticks around after glow to settle this.

GLOW's sound system
Hey guys... this was posted recently on GLOW's forum coming from Pete Moutso (weekly resident dj and music director at GLOW). He talks about the sound system, it's specs, and how they're workin to fix some of the probs.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, I hear your needs and I understand completely. Just to give you a brief background...we own the whole light, sound system and dj booth at insomnia. Last year when we moved the Glow party from Zei club to Insomnia we realized that changes had to be made at Insomnia. To be fair, at the time, the new owners of the venue did not have the funds to do this. So, we knew that we had to take a big risk and invest our own money to make Glow what we wanted it to be. The first thing was get a completely new sound system. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the original system was maybe 6 mids/highs and maybe 4 sub cabinets. We had arguably the best speaker manufacturers, EAW (Eastern Acoustical Worksthe same guys who make Avalon and the mids/highs of Phazon) come to Insomnia and measure the main room and recommend to us what sound to get. In other words, what you see in the main room is a custom built sound system. I made it clear that I wanted more sound/power than we needed in order to have no compression and to be able to support live bands and anything that the room would ever need. What did they make me? An awesome 42,000 (continuous) EAW sound system. To give you an idea about its powerwhen you hear it full blast on Saturdaysthe system is only running at of its capabilities. We did this because; we would rather spend a lot of money up front for a great sound systemand not have to worry about blowing speakers and amps every week. And to say the sound system runs on one amp is totally absurd! This is 2002, and the days of having a designated room with fans, cooling units and 30 amps are over. Our sound system has 16 mid/high speakers all around the room to give it a surround effect and they all have built in amps. We have two 11,000 watt QSC amps running 8 double 18 sub cabinets. Everything is running on digital processing. The beauty of this system is that it has so much headroom, that it is pretty difficult to blow anything.
The problem with the main room is that it is all concrete. Im sorry, but as promoters (not club owners) we dont have 200,000 lying around to buy a hardwood floor, or spend 40,000 to spray the ceiling with acoustical foam. So, we did what EAW recommended and placed 16 speakers around the room to give it a warmer feel and surround sound. So, the sound system is not a problem, we did not go cheap on it and I am not ashamed of saying that we as promoters went above and beyond what we should do. Do I wish I was at a venue with hardwood floors and new everything? Yes I do! It would be great to just show up, throw a party, and go home at the end of the day instead of worrying about, sound, lights, maintenanceetc. But we are not, so we make the best of what we have.
Another problem at Insomnia was their DJ booth. It is located on a balcony (where our light jockey is located). Whats the point of bringing the best djsif nobody can see them (this is the biggest problem I had at Zei)? So we custom built the Glow DJ booth. Every guest dj LOVES the booth. Instead of djs being gods in some high far away, vip booththey are on the same level with you. As I had hoped, the DJ-Crowd interaction has been incredible, leading to some great dj sets (In the new DJMag Top 100 issue, #9 Glow Resident Ferry Corsten said that his gig of 2002 was Glow!). I cant wait to see PvD in an intimate room like Glows in December!
Insomnia originally had 6 intelligent lights. Now it has an amazing 36 Coemar lighting fixtures, two lasers and three projectors all purchased by us.
For the last month I have not been happy with our sound system. I am not going to say it sounds like crap, because I still think its one of the best, but I think it should sound better. So, a month ago I arranged to have one of the best sound guys in the US, Bob Linkas, come and tweak/EQ the system. This will be done NEXT week. Thanks for your concerns, but I just wanted to state the record that we are not sitting on our asses, being greedy promoters ;-)
