Have only had to get it serviced once on one channel had some crackling noise on it still sounds pristine going through a Zoom H4n. Remember Groove Riders Records on Ventura Blvd. They used to bring the latest talent and locals play daytime sidewalk parties outside the store on weekends.

Hey Rez! Can you believe that was like 14 years ago?! Yea totally remember that experience, I think we even had a great convo about ethnic groups in LA lol! Good Times!

I stopped listening to new EDM at the end of '06 (call me an EDM conservative, after all I'm currently listening to country...but that's another convo lol) so I've got like a time machine of all my experiences with the TAs in my head as if they were yesterday!

Oh and I've been wanting to tell you this for a long time now, I've just recently (in the past 3-4 years) been listening to some classic trance from the early 2000s (which I'd like to add has aged like fine wine!), and you were right all long....Mr. Dierickx is a genius, the quality of his tracks are timeless!

No I can't believe it's been that long, it's kinda crazy how fast it's gone by, and for the first time feeling like an old timer haha. Wow, going from EDM to country is a massive shift, I always imagined the shift would work the other way around lol. I converted a high school friend of mine from Death metal to EDM purely by coincidence just by letting him listen to some of my mix CDs back in the day. Yeah, the 90s era trance and early 2000s were the best, back when it had a political, social, economic motivation, pushing the envelope and evolving constantly with a more punk edge.

It's gotten way too commercialized the last 14 years, but the good news is, I hear more productions and producers going back to the minimalist trance sound that made it so avant garde and original to begin with techno, acid, house roots. MIKE was amazing back then, but he unfortunately went the way of the pop EDM artists to stay relevant and pay the bills. There's still probably a hundred tracks or so I haven't discovered. The rarer obscure underground stuff is the most interesting. Airwave, JOOF, Digital Blonde, minus the psy influences and a few others, especially in the techno scene, Gregor Tresher, Petar Dundov, are still purveyors of the original sound. You will hear more of that sound in the techno and acid scene than you will anywhere else. Check out HHertzSignal, they focus on the classic sound with a modern touch.

Regarding the shift to country, there was alot of other genres in between! After I stopped listening to new EDM in 2006-07, went pretty far down the Electronica hole with Justice, Digtalism, Bonobo and Emancipator leading the way, then 80s music for a long time, Japanese hiphop after, 70s classic rock recently and somehow that lead to country lol.

And totally got my college roommate into EDM back in the day just by osmosis as well!

Oh nice, yea over the years I've been shown new EDM tracks by different people, but they all seem to have this sound that REALLY annoys me, I guess its called a dubstep wobble? (if my memory serves me right, dubstep didn't exist back in 06 ). I'd be happy to checkout some new stuff if it doesn't have that sound in it, but I'm perfectly happy just listening to EDM thats pre 2006 (back in the good ole days), comes with the extra nostalgia after all See told ya I've become an EDM conservative lol

what is up with the huge J/kpop craziness right now? Serious question. It's been around for some time now but I've never been a fan however it's just exploded!

i knew about Idols from along time ago but never really knew anything about it, i took my first trip to tokyo in 2015 and a friend introduce me to an Idol group and was completely hooked to the point that the following year i had the chance to go to WOMB for sven vath but chose an Idol event instead, but yeah there seems to be a huge following now for asian Idol groups i think mostly because of this korean boy band that's going on now and it's like the new backstreet boys and are known around the world.

Haha awesome! Never got into j/kpop, but the stuff I got into was by the japanese hiphop producer called Nujabes, then everything under his label Hydeout Productions, it just exploded after that lol I still think its underground, but highly recommended if you are into hip hop/Jazz (I'd say my favorite album is "Hydeout Productions Second Collection")

I'm going to reload my music library with all of this kind of stuff again.

I was into his stuff prior to his death (RIP). I was into underground hip hop in the 90's and 00's along with "edm" music and naturally got into his stuff. Sucks about his death, dude was serious when it came to beats!!!!

Good to see everyone. I am here too, still into the music but not much into trance really. More into progressive house and Romanian dance hits nowadays. And of course I have to have my dose of Prodigy especially their latest works on a regular basis

Yes, we are still into trance and go out. A bit less now that we have a kid. It's odd that TA is so dead considering trance is really big right now. Facebook groups have kind of taken over at least for us. Here is the next event we will be at:

I lived bitch.

Since this was posted in 2018 I'll give you a quick rundown:

1. 2018 was probably the 8th year or so of Maheras and I doing our Plastic Love parties in LA. I think by that time we were kind of on the tail end of things since I was really getting hammered in the day job.

2. we attempted to turn Plastic Love into Plastic Love Records but it kind of fell apart after 3 releases because of the same reasons above. Really hard to juggle the DJ/label/party life with family and my career and also being a complete and total mess in the mental health department.

3. I produced the Women's World Cup(s) in Canada and France (2015 and 2019) and the Men's World Cup in Russia (2018) and picked up a few Emmy's along the way (6 total).

4. Sometime in 2019 I came to terms with having to drastically change my entire DJ career beacue it was falling apart and becoming non-existent. I kind of had some ideas and then March 2020 happened and here we are.

5. I have a kid now and I'm much better mentally although she definitely makes me ping pong back and forth between being the happiest I've ever been in my life and also questioning every single decision I've ever made to get me to this point in my life.

6. Still picking up DJ gigs here and there but nowhere near where I was at my height. I mean, I opened for Radiohead at a festival in Iceland and now I'm like trying to play bars and shit lol

7. Still at my same job that I still kind of hate and I'm going to Qatar for the World Cup again this year and it's causing me a lot of anxiety and therapy so that's cool I guess? I'm also now trying to get into the world of voice acting.

Best update ever. I'm glad you could make an appearance oh holy one.

Basically summed up my promoter experience. I miss it dearly but sleep is wonderful.

Checking in

Deleted or just stopped most of my social accounts except Instagram a decade plus ago to refocus and travel. I just enjoy being lost and walking through places. I still remember a friend telling me why the fuck did I walk from North Beach, through TL and to the Mission one time in my early SF adventures. Last big walk was a dozen miles through Lima, Peru.

On the those travels abroad, I met someone. Been together for 7 years, married for 3 and now expecting a little rizo

Can't believe its been 5 years since Lyndsay left us. I didn't hang out with her as much as I should and miss her. Frank G reached out to me out of the blue and been talking with him. Last I saw anyone from the scene was Adriana, forgot her alias here, when I was visiting my sister in OC. Would bump into Thomas Phan and John Beaver a few times a year, as they were my neighbors down the street until I moved this year.

I see gigs and events all the time. Think about going but then I enjoy my sleep and wife isnt from the scene. Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to bumping into again if we get a chance. Grateful for everyone I've met and helped me along the way

Heya Neo,

welp apologies for the incredibly long delay in the reply here. I don't visit TA as often as I used to.

Answer to your question is I have lived in DC all my life until I moved to Seattle in 2014. Unfortunately, we probably never crossed paths. I was part of the underground scene way back in the late 90's. Clubs like Fever in Baltimore and Nation (Buzz) in DC. I was a huge part of Glow way back when it was the small little club tucked behind the MCI Center at the time.

I was removed from the EDM scene for about 14 yrs... it actually took my move out to Seattle to rekindle the flame. I would say the last time I was out at a show in DC would have been 2004 or 2005. If you didn't move to DC until 2007, then most likely we never met.

But you may have crossed paths with a bunch of other DCTAs...or NYTAs.. we had a huge contingent of TA's from Philly, NY, Atlanta, Delaware, New Jersey, etc... all meet up at various events back in the day.

Anyways, apologies again for the delay in response. Hope all is well!
