Man, you guys crack me up......
Anyway, for me more progressive style stuff has POWER - through subtlety great things can be achieved - sometimes its what's not in the music as much as what is. The main difference is its not as easily accessable as most trance - you have to actually listen to it, not just hear it(there is a difference)with an open mind. Maybe if some of you guys give it a chance it will start to sink in, but some of you will probably read this and say STFU - I know whats good! I know I didn't really like prog at first, but i try not to rule any genre out. Good music is good music! A lot of trance now is derivative, and although it will always have its place and I haven't lost any of my love for good trance tunes, I discovered other things. You guys really listen to Armin PVD Ferry exclusively? You gonna stay that way for ever? You may regret some of your comments some day......

I Adore both genres, one cannot exist without the other <---any musician will tell you that.....

As said before, no human minds are alike, how can we expect people to conform to your individual consensus on music taste?

This kind of thread is an invitation to both likers and haters, whatever people say is based on their decision to make that input...some give reason, some don't.....but i see this taking sides of what seems to be an invisible barrier to be over-rated....

Just for your info, if the society only has a ONE general consensus for Every Issue, life would be more simple....

The rebuttals I see here brings a lovely atmosphere of "Gay-Friendly";if you analyze the whole argument....it all started with the word "Gay", which is followed by one pissed off person protecting another's one ASS....and there you go, the whole dominoe effect at it's very best.....in other words, you brothers should really take it cool....boiling over issues over an individual's personal preferences isn't exactly a wise thing to do....Man...what are you guys smoking?

Exclamation Progressive Vs Uplifting

Firstly, I am suprised at how many people have flamed this guy for starting this topic. C'mon guys, I doubt he would have started it if he had intentions of getting flamed, cut him some slack.

I know a lot of people who prefer JUST uplifting, and often sit down when a progressive track is played at a club.

Having said that, I have to say that progressive house/trance and uplifting trance go hand in hand, and rely heavily on each other.

What I mean is, in a DJ's set, he really needs to control thr crowd, and if he is a good DJ, he will progress through various styles of trance and prog. To take the crowd on a journey, there is no point playing uplifting after uplifting. A build up in a set can take many tracks, and the perfect way is to throw in progressive house, the progressive trance and then an uplifting track.

Without a more mellow prog track, an uplifting track does not have as much emphasis in a live set. however, when a prog song is played prior to a really hands in the air track... every one really reacts to it and feels that euphoric trance sensation that we all love.

At an event I go to regularly, which advertises ALL uplifting trance is great. The first DJ actually plays progressive all the way, starting with prog house, then prog trance, and he usually finishes with JUST one uplifting track.... and you know what? The crowd goes absolutely NUTS!! They love it, and the song sounds SOOO much more uplifting than just throwing uplifting song after another.

So, (shit this is an essay), in conclusion, without progressive, uplifting trance does not have its emphasis, and without uplifting, prog does not have its sublties and nuances.

My favourite sounds is uplifing, of course, but I enjoy it most when progressive preludes it.

Cheers

and i dont diss trance all the time. I just like taking a few comical jabs and pissing little kids (like vanfecto here) off!

I mean, trance isnt the only thing out there, there is music out there even better than 'progressive house', such as:

- hard percussive drum and bass
- hard as nails techno
- ambient/trip hop/leftfield
- even rock music is great , like that coldplay album and red hot chilli peppers.

so most of you guys that just like to bash 'progressive' music are as close minded as those who just bash trance.

call me close minded too, but i dont give a toss.

threads like these just make my day, seeing all you kids getting your knickers in a twsit.

i like progressive....hell look at my recent favs...but fact of the matter is..5 yrs from now..i wont be able to turn on a prog tune and like it..IT bores me after a while.
The sounds are complex and i like...but its overall depth and heart does not compare to the soul of trance(QUALITY trance dammnit)

just like tranceseeker..psi..etc would come in here defending the almighty prog boook of thoughts

ill come in here and rant about the real trance....THE FUKIN REAL TRANCE !!!!

still have a spot for prog in my heart.....but trance willl never fade way

dude you are so damn right i totally agree with you here also got quite a similar music taste except for the "crap" part dont listen to that shit heh but long live trance man
