I dont know why people are even taking part in this conversation. Its not like what anyone says will change someone else's mind.

I'm not going to debate why anyone thinks we are near the top as in country status in the world. Anyone can look up size of military, amount of capital, and so on. Plus it depends on what factors you think matter when determining who is on top. If you want to throw in education or obesity, if that turns you on, then yeah...we arent on top.

We do what we do because we are in the position to do so. Very rarely will any country at all act if they arent going to benefit somehow. That isnt a US thing...its a human nature thing. And the people of the US should not portrayed in the way the government acts. Cause the average person in the US can never even get to the point most politicians are.

I'm an american and i'll say that any american that says we are the best is an idiot. Best is a subjective term. To say that, proves the lack of that person's inteligence. And yes americans are ignorant. The average HS student doesnt know where France is as someone says becuase they dont care were France is. Most americans arent wordly at all unless we choose to be. Hell...we can drive for half a day and not even get a quarter of the way across our country. You can drive a half day in another continent and experience more than one country, culture, way of living.

I am thankful for going to a college that had a lot of foreign people there. I learned a lot and can understand people's perspective. But its still stupid to have this debate. Pick any country and make it our size or Russia's size or China's and so on and that will inflate any problems or influence the country has.

But I know none of what I said matters nor does anywhere care...just had to say it.

And yes...I am Irish in the US.

as far as me starting flame wars..i put up a simple forwarded email..just to explain some of the reasons why im proud of my country..never did i say im better than any of you..infact it was people from other countries that started giving their reasons of why they hate america and are better than us.

im a second generation american so please dont blame me for killing native americans, slavery or anything else that happened before my family got here..if my grandparents didnt decide to move i would be talking to all of u with an italian flag in the corner..i feel close to my italian heritage because that is how we eat, celebrate our holidays and go about a lives..50% of my town is italian too..if u go into the meat market..all u hear is italian being spoken...the priest in our church is italian and if u want u can hear mass in italian.

i look at these threads and i see a lot of american bashing..people think this whole country is made up of monsters..when basically we are you..just not living in our native countries anymore. people come to from all over the world, like my grandparents, looking for an opportunity to make a better life for them and their families.
i am greatful for the opportunities that i have here. i love my country. everyone on here is ethnocentric. its not a bad thing to love your country.

Ok, you guys completely missed my point. I wasn't saying that other places don't have good colleges. I was mearly saying that, if you don't, you blame it on the US. Hell, if trance is bad this month, you'll blame it on the US. Next thing you know, the US ruined the quality of E for you right?

As for what makes the US government better then all others, well: Checks and balances for one. 3 partitioned government (Presidential, Judicial, congressional), Constitution, Bill of Rights, seperation between Federal and state, and the most important property of flexibility and changability.

Denmark has a decent government, but I really doubt that, that government would stand much of a chance with the large population and land of the United States. Nor the UK government or any other European government.

quite possibly, the US ruined Paul Oakenfold, and it's turned Tiesto into a twat. Americas over the top drug laws could be blamed for shit E everywhere

thats great. Al Gore won the presidential election by a clear half a million votes, yet your judicial system still gave George W Bush the presidency. Your bill of rights means jackshit when you execute 16 year olds, and execute people that are possibly innocent, furthermore, many of the current government are trying to stop people on Death Rows right to appeal. Classy. Also believe your one of the few countries that haven't signed the international bill of human rights.....

Possibly not, but then again in the UK you have to be able to read past a 4th Grade level to lead the country, not just rely on Daddy everytime you fail.....
clear enough for you
just to make it clear, don't hate Americans, in fact quite like a lot of you, just hate the American political system

Let me apologize on behalf of all the americans that arent here to defend themselves against the american morons talking out of there ass here. These idiots are representing themselves...not the US. Remember that.

lol..u cant blame the US for ruining oakenfold or tiesto..let them take the blame for ruining themselves..maybe they were influenced by the american way of life..but ultimately everyone is responsible for themselves and the choices they make.

that election was an embarrasment..unfortunatley we have a policy here where it is the electorial vote, not the popular vote that wins elections..it has to be this way because of the size of the country and its diversity. although we are one country we have so many different states and each state is allowed to make certain laws that satisfy their needs. for example it is illegal to smoke in public places in california, where i live, we can smoke basicaly anywhere. its another aspect that i think makes this country great. although the last elections got screwed up..it has worked for over 200 years. nothing is perfect fellas and as long as we learn from that mistake and improve our system, its not a total loss.

Here lies the problem.

A post is made, regarding USA in the international world.

Some Americans, shout out "Hey, stop bashing us, we're sick and tired of you bashing us!"

Then the rest of the Ta's explain "Well, we know all Americans aren't bad, and most of them are really decent people. We're just very concerned about your country's involvement in international affairs, and your arrogant attitudes"

And then they reply "Well, I'm sick and tired of you guys bashing us. We never said we were the best. Nobody's perfect, and every country acts out of its own interest, and why can't we be patriotic without being bashed?"

And then someone comes along and tells us that the US government is "better than all the others"

and the amusing cycle repeats.

Posted by quddha on Jan-22-2003 21:21:

oh, and another thing, if you're gonna say that one thing is better than another, you have to back it up by comparing it to something else, for example, to the Canadian government. You listed several reasons why the US government is a GOOD one, but you didn't list any reasons why its a BETTER one, or the BEST one.

You posted an article of sorts that you said was written by an Australian dentist, when in fact it was written by an American professor.

In this article it said that Hitler had killed many Americans.

I pointed out that Americans seem to think that they lost loads in world war 2, but the amounts of deaths suffered by America are tiny in comparison to those of other countries.

The fact is:

You joined word war 2 after it had been all but won by the allies.
You killed hundreds of thousands of German civilians - carpet bombing cities that never had any military value to Germany, and after Germany had already been practically defeated.
Then for the next 50+ years you seemed to make yourself believe that you somehow won world war 2 single handily Hollywood makes endless films with either fictitious pro American plots, or about real accomplishments by the British military, but in the films its the American military.

Then you say that Japan killed loads of people - not Hilter?

Then you come out with this toss - Kirbtastic, you truly talk utter shite.

the point i was making but not having to comment on ur post is that u asked me if i ever took a history class when u pointed out that hitler did not control the japanese army during WORLD WAR ONE..when infact hitler nor the japanese army played any role in world war one. i also never down played the role of the brittish army during world war two. i never said that we came in and won the war for you. i simply said we did not enter until we were attacked unprovoked.

of course the loss of lives was greater for european countries, it was fought on your soil. as insignificant as you may feel our role was in world war two, we did send our young men over there to help fight and die. i also believe it was a military blunder by the Nazi party that caused them to lose the war..if they never went and tried to invade Russia..the outcome of that war i think would have been much different.

Which is where your wrong, Hitler was an accomplished messenger during world war one, was injured twice, and im pretty sure he was awarded the highest german military honour.

Of course i didn't mean world war one and you knew that. However, instead of replying to the important points I made in my post, you chose to make fun of a tiny mistake. Presumably this is because you felt that you had no way to respectibly reply.

And the small matter of Hitler's defeat in north africa at the hands of the british army.

I see you have chosen not to reply to my statement about american war films based on ficticious events, or changed to make america the hero - perhaps this is because you are completely ignorant to this, so please do let me give you an example:

The film U-571, made 3 years ago or so. The film is about an American submarine capturing the engima code. In reality the enigma code was captured by the british navy. I personally find this very offensive to the honour of my granfather who was in the british navy.

Will you choose to reply to this point? or will you scan this reply for 3 hours for a spelling mistake to point out?

no..at the point of that post i had no idea u didnt mean world war one, which is why i found your comment so humorous. maybe when u are trying to put me down about taking a history class, you should proof read your own comebacks to make your point more clear. its not like u used the word "too" instead of "two". you typed out "one". Germany was fighting a war on too many fronts and that is why they lost. yes the brittish army did a brilliant job and yes winston churchill was a brilliant man. i am not disagreeing with you on this.

as for bringing up hollywood movies to prove your point...let me let u in on a little secret...hollywood is fake..its entertainment..made to make money. never would i base my opinion of historic events on something that came out of hollywood. heres another little secret..i didnt write the script for U-571..i havent even seen the movie..but if i do ill keep your grandfather in mind.

Gosh I am so confused. Here I thought that I lived in this great country that was really good. All my government and political science classes I took in college backed up that fact. Strange how my extensive history classes (+ everything I watch on the History channel) on all the wars in the 1900's are wrong. This whole time I was under the influence that we went out of our way to help Europe in WW1+2. How could I have been so wrong. I never realized that the US deserved 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, but I understand now. The way that the US resurected West Germany and Japan after the war was a joke right, they really aren't great countries now because of us. Those billions of dollars a year that my government spends on aid to other countries every year must really be a farse. Oh and what about all this damn technology that is invented by all these fat Americans, just devils work I realize now. Or the worlds economy, I always thought that the worlds economy would collapse without the United states pumping so much money into the world. If only I knew back then that my country was so horrible, maybe I could be in the street celebrating 9/11 and Saddam like you guys now.

Darn guys, thanks for opening up my mind.

and fuck you.
