isn't computer mixing not really fair? Not to piss anyone off but that really doesn't show true talent. I would rather have someone give me a mix that they tried 500 millions times trying to make and put effort into it, instead of someone handing me a mix they just slapped together in 30 mins. But that's just me

Posted by 531.am on Apr-15-2003 22:07:

btw, good luck people

I don't see specially what it changes because on a cd player you put some buttons on (cue pitch, pitch bend play pause and so on), on a PC mixing it is just the same exept that these functions are on the keyboard key.
what is the difference ??, i can understand between vinyl and MP3.

but there isn't so much difference.

You can train a mix so much you can but the real professional doesn't prepare the hole set, they know what they will mix as musik but you never can tell by heart and precisely what they will mix.

MP3 mixing doesn't get it easyer, try it and then we will speak about it

well I mean....I'm talking about like, I've seen people use Acid Pro to make their mixes. And they make it sound so precise that it almost sounds to good to be real . I have played with other programs like trakktor and stuff but it just seems to much of a pain in the ass . But personally I would rather mix with vinyl, let me know when you'll have a link of someone using trakktor. I want to see how good it sounds?

well if were able to download mixes after the competition u can check out my mix, i used trakktor and it turned out pretty good. traktor is a very good program, it basically has everything that a mixer does.

you can go on my homesite and download some mixes, i don't use traktor but deejaysystem, and i mix with generally a 0.01 pitch presicion (it takes time to find it) but it works very well.

djmore will not use Acid Pro but Atomix for his mix, which is a live mixing program, so his mix will meet the rules.

Posted by LmPyGrVy on Apr-16-2003 19:38:

yea remember this is pretty much just like the vinyl competition, only with mp3s. they can practice their mix just as much as we can practice ours.

There will be no exceptions for DJ entry, however exceptions will be made if people are having problems uploading with slower connections. My suggestion is to send your mix to somebody with a fast connection for them to upload.

Mixes must be submitted in 160kbps Mp3 quality, CBR or VBR, no Mp3-Pro files are allowed.

Mixes must be 60 to 80 minutes in length

You may mix with:
1. Mp3s in Real Time (Traktor was the most used for the last one)

All DJs must state how they have made their set, ie which program used.

All mixes must be recorded live, no using multiple mixes and sticking the best transitions together.
You may plan and practise your mix, but not to the point that it becomes robotic.

All mixes must be uploaded with a tracklist, a cue sheet would also help. You may combine both into the cue sheet, but remember not all CD writers support that type of cue sheet so be careful when burning.

Contestants may not also be a judge, you have the choice to be either, not both.

You may not download other contestants mixes.

You must mix trance, this rule bends as far as progressive and hard trance. Contestants will be disqualified for extended use of non-trance music.

Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

You must actually mix to gain marks, snapping together of tunes is not allowed. That is not really DJing.

All judges will have to be appoved by me and will only be accepted as long as nobody else has any problems. Judges must take this duty to mix seriously. All mixes must be marked on skill and the way the contestant progresses their mix, NOT ON PERSONAL OPIONION OF THE CONTESTANT OR THE SONGS HE WISHES TO MIX. Although contestants must abide by the tracklist rules.

Judges and Administrators have the right to reserve and change/ammend these rules.

someone already mentioned what i was gonna say so never mind.

but yes, it is fair because there are some live mp3 mixing programs out. PCDJ,Traktor and Atomix and so on..
i personally use BPM Studio because i like the interface. It's the closest i found to a dual cdplayer (because i'm familiar with cdplayers)

yeah completely right, but i think he just have to try him self to see that it isn't easy.

he have really the choice between all the softwares but he should record his first mp3 mix, it could be funny
