To those of you saying that Robert Miles - Children is overrated, you have to take into consideration that it was produced like 8+ years ago. Back then it was like a ground breaking production.

Same with Dj Misjah & Tim - Access. It might be a mediocre track now, but it was groundbreaking 10+ years ago when it was made.

Just a thought.

As for my thoughts on overrated tracks...

Digital Blonde - Electra

Im not saying it isn't a good track, but people give it way more credit than I think its actually worth.

Punk does not sounds like Solstice, and neither of those two tunes sound like Ligaya. I'm not too fond of Ferry (Though I still love Punk), but to say that all his stuff sounds the same when you compare him to PvD and Armin (both of whom I like) using the same basslines and the same synths and the same build-ups in every song is a little unfair. As you can see, I'm not a big critic of artists who write repetitivly, however, to say everything Ferry writes sounds like everything else he writes would be inaccurate.

Also, isn't that why artists use different aliases sometimes? Not only for record label purposes and collaborations, but just so that when they write something that's in a very different style, they can put it under another name so fans of their first Moniker won't be upset?

Over-rated?

First i have a question.
Why post a thread about a tune, when you don't like it?
Doesn't that only mean that you simply don't like tunes under that genre?
If you don't like Holden & Thompson - Nothing, then you can impossibly like that style at all. Because it's not overrated, it is quality.

Another possibility is that you are a little picky ("small ears"?)
:P

My favorites at the moment:
Cor Fijneman feat Jan Johnston - Venus (DJ Tiesto Remix)
Above And Beyond - Far From In Love (Airbase Remix)
Melodica - Tornado (Original Mix)
Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix)
Delerium - Innocente (Deep Dish Gladiator Remix)

My classics at the moment:
Plastic Boy - Twixt
NU-NRG - Dreamland
Hammock Brothers - Earth
Loop Control - Reflections
System F - Solstice

This may be a little OT, but i used to believe that intelligent, reasonable thinking trance fans (of which this community has the largest collection of) would be able to come to an objective statement about a track. At least on the extremes, i.e. something was complete cheese/shit, or complete genius. But it seem for every track there are as many fans as there are foes. I guess trance is as subjective as anything, and that just may be its appeal (being so many things to so many people). The only problem is a trend i'm starting to see develop on these boards. It seems people think that the more tunes they don't like, the bigger trance addict they are.

I know what you mean, but when you think about all the different kinds of trance, it's inevitable that everyone will have their own oppinions about every song. There are people on these forum who are into Melodic Trance, hard Trance, epic trance, uplifting trance, progressive trance, goa/psy-trance, Chillout/ambient trance, and trance with breakbeats. Even within these little subgenres, Each producer's sound is vastly different from one another. In uplifting Trance, Ronski Speed's sound is very different than the Thrillseekers, which are very Different from Paul van Dyk, who's sound differs greatly from Armin van Buuren's. On the hard trance side, you have Scot Project who sounds different from Dumonde, who sounds nothing like Tomcraft, Which sounds Completely different than Spacefrog. On top of all that, you have people on these boards who don't really listen to much trance anymore. They listen to everything, from New Age to Tribal House and progressive to DnB to Hard House to techno to Breaks. With all that factored in and taken into account, it makes sense that not everyone on this site would have an easy time agreeing on what is a good tune and what is not.

This is a no brainer
Ligaya is the most overrated tune of all time

The hype this tune recieved was unbelievable.
Nevertheless, it is good, even though Solstice is better .

i'll definatly agree ligaya was over hyped.
i liked urban train and flight 643, wouldn't call them greats where id elevate them to classics, but i enjoyed them alot.

not to familiar with lethal industry and dreamland.
sandstorm. haha that song is a pop classic.
people can go ahead and flame me but that was a great tune.
completly over played though.
now the only song i totaly disagree with you on is wavy gravy.
it was definatly hyped, as was all of ADD, how could it not be it was a release from Sasha. but that song, along with the rest of the album was amazing.
it was a total break from the classic progressive. definatly broke some new boundries.
i don't think it was the absolut best track on ADD, but it was one of the best.
definatly one hell of a beautiful track.

but whatever its all opinions

Posted by DJ M.G on Mar-12-2003 11:16:

PPK - ResuRection

Ligaya starts off good, but goes pear shaped when the break comes in.

Posted by Great Outdoors on Mar-12-2003 15:46:

Ligaya, for sure. Cheapo synths and artificial climax.

Posted by noikeee on Mar-12-2003 16:15:

hmm, everyone has their own opinion, but I can't understand how some tunes got into this thread...:

Scott Bond vs. Solar Stone - 3rd Earth

magical melody, energetic, great vocals.. probably the most energetic solar stone tune so far, yes many people seem to like it, but it's by no means "shit"

Exposure - Magic Impuls

it was my fav for last year, its one of my alltime favs now, just listen to that buildup! mike's tunes are all awesome, but some tend to sound a bit too artificial, this one sounds so natural and dark.. cant find anything wrong in the tune

Sasha - Wavy Gravy

who mentioned this.. have you ever listened carefully to it? it is SO fuckin' complex! even if u dont like it, u gotta admit this is not something you get done on an afternoon on fruity or something.. fuckin' masterpiece.
