btw , judges, check this i thought of this just now and wanted to post it up
i dont think beat matching should be part of scoring. main thing, beat matching should be a given, how i think it should be is

transition harmonics (measuring how well you kept it in sync, you can have it not beat matched and keep it in sync)
transition flow (how well the transition sounded, how well the two songs go together, however you want to say it, as well as leveling)
trackselection (how the mixed flowed as a whole)

thats just what i thought

cuz i think most of us here can beat match with no problem, so how can you get points off for beat matching?

quite simply, if you cannot beatmatch, you shouldn't be in this competition to begin with; heck, if you cannot beatmatch, and the judges hear it, you should be disqualified

the mark scheme is being left as it is to remove as much bias as possible.

the beatmatching in this competition does vary a lot, from very good almost and sometimes perfect, and in some cases its quite amateurish. everybody can beatmatch, but if that is what you mean, everybody can eq and pick tracks etc.

basically...

tracklist - how the set flows, how the tracks work together

beatmatching - how well it is kept on beat, corrections, etc.

harmonics - eq work, use of faders, etc.

it works the best this way so far and is as unbiased as it really can get, we dont want a repeat of CMII

ah ok thanks, i was just confused about how you actually go about judging each section, that is how i did it for the mp3 compo when i judged it, so sounds good to me

(1) I'm seeing a few sets with more than a fair amount of prog./deep house tracks. I thought the first compo was the only one we allowed people to use house in...what gives?

(2) Is it permissible to use a couple tracks with breaks? i.e. Starecase...

i sure hope it's allowed to have som prog and breaks in the set. wouldn't it be boring for the judges with 20 sets witha ll uplifting trance?
