He will be far cheaper than any of them, and he plays the outfield with reckless abandonment. Plus he's having a phenominal season offensively, and the Dbacks can't sign him because he wants too much money from them. Byrnes will definitely bring the biggest bang for the buck.

I love Byrnes. The guys is so fucking cool, I think he would be a hit in NY. He is the kind of guy that NY needs to bring... cool, someone the fans can really connect with.

Edit: Hes also a long term solution for the outfield.

Melke still needs to develop, defensively hes great, offensively far far too inconsistent. You cant look at last seasons numbers and expect that to happen. He has the potential, but hes still young and you can see his youth in his at-bats.

Edit: He has the wrong people rubbing off on him... He looks alot like Damon at the plate. Bring in Rowand and Byrnes, you will see Melke turn around.

Melke should be in center or right not left. left field is usually reserved for the weakest outfielder.

Who goes? Easy.
- Damon, Giambi, Abreu.

Matsui should be moved to DH. Melke should play RF with that cannon he has. Rowand in CF, Byrnes in LF.

On a side note, with the exception of Wang and Hughes, the entire pitching rotation needs to go. Cashman needs to start looking for a new closer, which would be a good reason why he should start looking now since they are on the market.

There's really nothing we can do because these contracts are way too big for other teams to pick up. That said, i would like to see Abreu, Damon, and Giambi gone. Abreu is the only one i think is really going to be out of here next year.

What i would like to see is: matsui play out his contract in LF, Melke move to RF and work with Mattingly on his hitting, and go for Rowand in CF (and if not i like Byrnes, then hunter).

The infield is fine with AROD, Jeter, and Cano. We still have a hole at 1B, but i have no idea what we can get at that spot. There's nothing really on the FA market this offseason. I would love to see Teixiera there, but that doesn't seem feasible.

Pitching: farnsworth (gone), Mussina (gone), Igawa (whatever), Clemens (horrible move), Pettitte(he's showing us why houston didn't offer for him). We seriously need to do something, but i don't know what the pitching market looks like. I'll have to get back to you on this.

There really is no pitching market besides closers. SPs that are on the market are asking too high a price.

Posted by jerZ07002 on Jul-21-2007 03:24:

Vlad we're definitely on the same page. There's just no way we can move giambi and damon, so getting two outfielders and moving matsui to DH is not realistic. Altough ideally i would like to see two new outfielders.

Unfortunately, that is fact. But I think Id rather have Byrnes instead of Rowand, his youth is a plus, hes got an upside unlike Rowand who is at his plataeu... and hes just an awesome guy.

Rowand is 29, and Byrnes is 31. rowand is a career .286 batter who's showing a little power this year. i prefer rowand

cairo is a great utility man....we keep him. If philips has a good year from this point on, maybe we have a solution. The problem with philips is torre never gave him a shot to prove himself. I hope he does well because i like him and he's relatively young 27 i think, and he certainly doesn't have a big head.

Our championship teams were filled with role players. we need to get back to that. enough already with building a team with superstars.

1. Armando Benitez. No.
2. Octavio Dotel. No.
3. Francisco Cordero. He was driven out of the AL. No.
4. Joe Nathan. YES!
5. Jason Isringhausen. No.
6. Eric Gagne. Only as a setup guy.

Side note.

Scott Linebrink is a FA, he would be a nice pickup for the bullpen.

So youre both agreed on who should stay and who should go..and youre both agreed on who we need....have we got a chance of getting them...

Sry James, I misread the DOB's.

We definitely have a shot at Rowand.

Haha...remember we had dotel last year and he pitched all of 3 games or something like that. what a waste of one million.

i agree with nathan.

Steven....we have a shot with the outfielders because they are free agents at the end of the season. As for pitchers, i'm at a loss. hopefully we can find some internal solutions.

I just checked the relief pitching free agent market this offseason, it doesn't look good. We have to trade for someone. It looks like cordero is teh best FA on the offseason market

i don't agree with Vizcaino. he looks to be improving when torre doesn't overwork him.

i think our bullpen could improve if used the correct way...torre sucks at managing the bullpen.

I couldnt agree more.

Edit: The proof is in the 2+ innings Mike Myers pitched today.

he needs to let the starters go deeper into games, and maybe get out of their own messes. He needs to stop using proctor every day. He needs to bring in the worst pitchers in the mop up situations. He needs to stop bringing in farnsworth, period.

on a side note, i think we can unload farnsworth to an NL team.
