I guess there's some bias on my end because I played basketball all through school and into my freshman year of college when I hung it up (being 5'10 and white didn't work in my favor). I never played organized team baseball so I can't relate. But I was indoctrinated from birth as a Red Sox fan since I was in Boston my first 8 years of life, which has always kept me tuned in to the sport. I really appreciate the chess game of it, especially during the playoffs.

I would think Real Madrid vs Barcelona might be the biggest rivalry in sports worldwide right now. But its all opinion between all superclubs in every sport.

Don't forget India vs Pakistan in cricket. Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers in NFL. Sox vs Yanks is up there, but not #1.

East-coast Sports Propaganda Network is responsible for red sox Yankees being as overhyped as it is, and I'm a Bears fan through and through, but Boston/NY is still the top rivalry in American sports. Even though Bears-Packers has been far more consistently competitive and relevant, Sawx-Yanks dates back almost 90 years.
