I'm almost 100% sure he's played at Soma in boulder, I know that Nick Warren has, there site is gone now obviously, but it used to list every dj that had ever spun there. . .

Mostly breaks and some quality underground hip hop, sometimes house.

Come to think of it Soma would be a fucking great place for him to play, it would totally fit his style.

1. Gotta be Thursdays, talent almost never comes any other night...
2. Get a different opener than Little Mike. I know Quench is his night, but you have to have an opening dj who's style meshes well with the style of the upcomers.
3. Out of the ones I've heard, DJ Dragon, and that's stretching it, it seems alot around here don't have that much talent...I'd say Daydream but he hasn't played out in a few years.
4. Trance/prog
5. Manumission, Ibiza
6. If it'd come here, the Armin/Markus Schulz/M.I.K.E. combo.
7. It's between J00F, Sasha, Max Graham, Deep Dish, Marco V and Armin's sets.
8. Better lighting, lower DJ booth for more interaction ie Vinyl's.
9. It's definitely better than in the past, still could use some work though.
10. Myself, Jon O'Bir and Matt Hardwick.
11. Vinyl was better imo, and from what I've seen from around the US I have a hard time believing the Church won best North American club-looking at Avalon, Aria, Guvernment, etc.
12. Only Vinyl, and I'd say it needs to get back up and running any news when that'll happen?

Posted by MindShifter on Mar-26-2004 05:20:

1. I prefer Saturdays, mainly coz the club isn't rammed w/ people and b/c its 21+ the only draw to thursdays is the talent as pagoda said. . .
2. On thursdays get rid of the R'n'B/Hip Hop downstairs, brings a different crowd (you're on your own for what that means. . . )
3. Don't know 'em by name, but there are some guys who spin at the Buddha who are pretty good.
4. Trance/Progressive/Breaks/Techno
5. Still haven't been to a favorite event. . .
6. I guess the night that had Steve Porter/Sasha last 4th of July
7. Hmmm, Marco V for sure, he destroyed, Sasha, Sander K., Armin, PvD last year. . .
8. Put in a decent laser system (see UK/Canada clubs), a VJ who works w/ the DJ not against him, keep the gogo dancers as is, and hopefully never bring the "trapeze" act or whatever it was
9. Its good, but there's always room for improvement (see above).
10. Jon O'Bir, Steve Porter, Hybrid (DJ Set), Armin, Max Graham, Marco V, James Zabiela, John '00' Fleming, Yunus Guvenen, G&D, Sasha, James Holden, Luke Fair, Matt Hardwick, Ozgur Can, Matt Darey, SHOKK/Flutlicht, Markus Schulz, Adam Sheridan, Live Acts: GrayArea, Hybrid, Nu-NRG, Way Out West. . . Thats about it, wish list of mine, not all going to happen, but that wasn't the point was it. . . (PS: I'm completely aware that Marco V, Sasha (& Digweed), Sander K, PvD, Zabiela, etc are comming back soon, and I'm excited. . .)
11. Unfortunately I haven't been to any other "Premier" clubs in the US or abroad, someday though. . .
12. I've been to Vinyl, 2 A.M., and the Buddha. Vinyl: WHEN IS IT GOING TO RE-OPEN?!?!?!? Shit man, I miss that place. . . 2 A.M. is cool, I dig the "underground" feel to it. The buddha is cool as shit, I like lounging/chillin there, dig the music as well. . .

Well thats it for my survey, keep up the good work, and remember never be satisfied with what you're brining in, always search for up and comers (including locals )

Edit: How could I forget Luke Chable, I dunno if he's ever been to the states, but I'd love to see him, also Chris Liebing, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills and UMEK!!!

Posted by DjGrl2000 on Mar-26-2004 05:31:

:1: What is your favorite night at The Church? Thursdays only for the international djs. Saturdays for the 21+ crowd and it being a weekend day.
:2: How would you improve this night? Longer dj sets for the featured dj, if he/she wishes to play longer.
:3: Who is your favorite local DJ? Don't have one
:4: What is your favorite type of music? rock/trance/break beat
:5: What is your favorite event? all of the greats of Europe
:6: What has been your favorite tour in the past? Armin Van Burren, when he came last October....he even beat out PVD.
:7: What is your favorite memory/DJ/event at The Church? When I saw and met Armin Van Buuren last October......also, the Porn Star Ball was a fantastic night.
:8: What changes would you make the club physically? Better lighting, lowering dj booth just a bit, better laser shows, and lay off the fogger machine a bit, it gets hard to breath when you're dancing your ass off. the go-go dancers are alright, but when the other people do their high-flying type acts, it blocks the entire dance floor so no one can dance plus, it takes off all the attention from the dj.
:9: What do you think of the recent additions and improvements? so far so good...
:10: What DJ would you like to see return to or debut at The Church? Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Marco V....and I want to see Matt Darey there if he ever tours again. I would also love to see Cor Fijneman and Conjure One.
:11: How does The Church to other clubs in Denver and other premiere nightclubs in the U.S.? It's pretty good....having a club in a real church was a great idea and very unique.
:12: Have you visited our other sister-clubs (Vinyl, Serengeti, Two:AM, Deadbeat, & Funky Buddha)? If so, what are your opinions on them and what changes would you make to them? Yes, I'v been to Deadbeat.....it's ok but the crowd there has been pretty rude pretty much everytime I'v gone.....other then that it's a decent club.

Posted by MindShifter on Mar-26-2004 23:37:

I agree on the longer set times, but I'm not sure of the logistics of that, perhaps a special event where the venue stays open later?!?!?

Posted by AntronVee on Mar-27-2004 18:33:

yeah, longer sets would be cool but they could have a problem closing down all the bars since selling booze would be illegal. i could just see a bunch of drunk people not closing out their tabs on time and causing a big mess with that...

I was actually thinking that maybe the djs could come on at 10:30 instead of 11:30. Unless that's too early for most people.

Posted by farley on Mar-29-2004 05:31:

10:30's too early imo, plus it doesn't give the warm up dj adequate time to get going. I always thought it was a combination on liquor laws and noise code laws that made it close at 2, so you'd probably have to get those out of the way for the sets that go to 7 am.

Posted by AntronVee on Mar-29-2004 19:35:

you're right about the liquor laws and noise ordinance laws.

but anyway, hey farley i moved my decks right next to my comp so that i can see if my computer can handle recording straight off the decks. today i'm goin to radio shack to buy the extra rca cable and adapter! booyah!

whohohoa big spender! That'd be pimp but you need techs! Well I might head over to Nate's later tonight, I'm not sure yet but if I go you wanna come?

It sucks that we don't get 8 hour set shows by awesome djs like they get in europe. Oh well, at least they're finally coming here.

1.thursday because it gets the big name djs
2.not much you can do since the dj's cant spin past 2am, maybe have more themed ideas...something like "white shirt night." that would be awesome to see all the blacklights and lasers shining over a sea of white shirts
3.dont know names, but some dj's at the funky buddha are really good
4.trance/prog
5.havent had one yet...
6.i'll have to agree with mindshifter, the steve porter/sasha combo was awesome. steve porter's track selection and mixing are excellent!
7.toss up between armin/john '00' fleming/max graham
8.nicer laser system, maybe some screens showing trance-related things such as recorded shows or a live shot of the dj booth
9.recent improvements have made the club much better but there's still a few things that could be added/changed
10.for the love of god get jon o'bir, holden and luke chable! also someone who can bang some tech-trance like marcel woods or shokk!
11.compared to denver clubs the church is up there. i have no idea about how it compares to other premiere clubs, i haven't been to any.
12.i've been to vinyl, two:am and the funky buddha. vinyl was cool when it was open. two:am is pretty good for after hours, i dont know what improvements could be made to it though. the funky buddha is top seed. i wouldnt change anything about it. i go there at least twice a week.

The answer to 1-12 is FREELAND!!

Except 10 which is FREELAND? as i dont believe he has been there before. ive honestly had a great time at numerous Church events. but as MindShifter said, id like Vinyl open again (and Soma - grumble -)

Keep quality events coming during the SUMMER! not just during school...
