IT WAS THE LAST GAME OF THE ONLY DECENT MET IN THE PAST 20 YEARS, AND THERE ONLY HALL OF FAMER IN HISTORY, IF HE DECIDES TO GO IN AS A MET. SATURDAY NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT AMOUNT OF PEOPLE.

Okay. And what about John Olerud? Edgardo Alfonso? Cliff Floyd? Oh yeah... they suck. I forgot.

Forget about the player with the highest percentage of first ballot votes, Tom Seaver?

And players don't choose what hat they're going to wear in the HoF. He's going in as a Met. And if he were to choose, he'd choose the Mets anyway.

I MEANT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, FONSIE 2 GOOD YEARS OLERUD 2 IM TALKING 5 OR MORE ALA STRWABERRY HERNANDEZ, SEAVER IS THE ONE GREAT MET, BUT THEY STILL SHOULD HAVE GOT RID OF HIM AFTER 10 YEARS. FLOYD SUCKED BEFORE HIS CAREER YEAR THIS YEAR. THE PLAYER CHOOSES REMEBER IT WAS A BIG DEAL WHEN BOGGS WANTED TO WEAR A DEVIL RAYS CAP, BEFORE HE CAME TO SENSES, THAT WHY GEORGE MADE A WINFIELD DAY TO KISS HIS ASS SO HE WOULD WEAR A YANKEE CAP DIDNT WORK

CAPS?

And no... the player does not choose. Trust me on that one.

Alfonso was good his whole Met career, starting with '97 up until 2002.

Which is good because I think retiring numbers in sports is really, really dumb.

lol, there gonna have to make room on that wall in yankees stadium... Jeter and Mariano are definitely getting their numbers retired.

When Jeter gets his number retired... #6 will be the only number bet. 1-10 that isnt retired.

PS: Than again, Torre wears #6... but I doubt they will retire it.

PPS: They will retire it if he wins this year, as well as a couple more in the next 5-6 years, IF hes still managing the Yanks.

Really? Last time time I checked, they can't retire Mariano's number... as it's already retired.

Because... that's dumb. Plus, IMO, Mariano shouldn't even be wearing that number anymore. The one number I don't have a problem with being retired is 42. But they shouldn't have allowed Vaughn and Mariano to continue wearing it. Oh well...

I dont really like the whole robinson being retired throughout, but both Mo's had better careers than Jackie anyway, so why take the shirt off there backs

Because if there was no Jackie Robinson, neither would be playing...

And... I wouldn't exactly consider the Hit Dog's career better than Jackie's.

Jackie Robinson played in Ebbet's Field.
Mo Vaughn played in Fenway Park.

197/?? SB/CS for Jackie. (CS stats weren't kept until '51, but I'd estimate it to about 58 CS's)
30/18 SB/CS for Mo.

.311/.409/.474 for Jackie in a non-offensive era.
.293/.383/.523 for Mo in an extreme offensive era.

Oh. Okay. That makes him better than Jackie Robinson. Sorry.

And that year wasn't even that amazing from him. Sheffield and McGwire both had better years.

Posted by Vlad on Oct-06-2005 20:23:

Well he started with that number before it was retired, so whatever. Atleast he is doing that number justice.

Vaughn was definitely on the juice, hence.... I don't want to look at his stats. I know that Trancehater loves juicers (or just Juiceambi) but in my book, comparing him to someone that revolutionized baseball by pushing the door for blacks to enter the sport is very insulting!

Think about it this way, Jackie played the game when everyday he had to come to the ballpark to racist slurs. Or to continually get death threats trying to get him to quit. The pressure on Jackie was more than anyone probably in the history besides Hank Aaron chasing the Babe. Jackie is a stud. Mo Vaughn pales in comparison to those achievements.

1995 mvp! robinson might have done more for game but mo was better player, he was quite nimble at 1st if you remember too. so he was in top 5 in baseball in 1996 was jackie ever in top 5? or mvp voting? If he didnt get the Mets curse , he would have been a Hall of fame candidate

I agree in that aspect 100%, he was a great man that persevered over the elements
