As Biznology mentioned, it won't happen. GM is trying to create that police car out of the Holden, but it that purpose built machine already has 10k pre-orders.

Posted by Fledz on Oct-07-2009 02:54:

No you don't understand, I'm not kidding. The inside word here is that certain states have already placed orders for Holdens to use as police cars and not Holdens converted to Pontiacs but actual Holdens. Produced here and shipped over there.

There really is no more perfect police car than the Holden Commodore to be honest. It's fast, extremely durable, easy to fix and relatively cheap.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-07-2009 04:43:

First off, it isn't the Holden Commodore. Second, it isn't going to happen since it won't be ready till 2011. Third, that Carbon Motors E7 (the one Biznology posted) is going into production one year after the Caprice is in production. One year is short for a purpose-built machine.

Here is a link describing the details about the Holden.

Why in Gods name would they use the Caprice? What a collosal waste of money.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-07-2009 06:59:

lol dunno. Idiots seem to be at the helms of these programs every time.

It's a luxury car man, that makes no sense whatsoever!

I doubt they'd be including all the luxury features for a police car

From memory, the Caprice has a slightly longer wheel-base than the regular Commodores, so perhaps they were just referring to the Caprice chassis rather than all the other fancy shit.

Though, why the hell a longer wheel-base would be useful as a police car is beyond me, especially handling-wise. Perhaps it's more in line with current American police car models though? Dunno.

It's because we have fat ass cops.

He's Walter Rohl. Porsche test driver and former Audi factory rally driver back in the mighty GroupB days where he ran 600+ hp Audis.

This lap is brilliant. His car control is amazing - how he lets the car drift and move around. Porsches can really bite you if you're not careful with your braking and off-throttle oversteer.

They are longer, it is a little known fact (unless you've owned a couple like I have- a WH from 1999 and a WK from 2003) that they're also a better built chassis than the normal, shorter wheelbase sedan. Its a lot stronger, virtually no flex and the handling is better than the sedans in a lot of ways, the weight doesn't make it great handling by any means but with some tighter suspension it'll give a very good account of itself.

But they are strong!
Put it this way, a large Toyota 4WD that rear-ended mine was a write off with most of its front end torn out from underneath it, the late model Mercedes it was pushed into was utterly destroyed to the point it was 'bent'. But in a nasty accident like that you're grateful for the very large amounts of metal between you and other cars, remember that in your little hatchbacks, you get hit hard and you're going to get turned into minced meat.

Most important thing is that there is more enough room in the back seat for a fat, angry american cop full of sugar and caffeine to swing a tazer on handcuffed minorities.

Yeah, what did you used to call yours? The 'road whale' or something?

Posted by Lilith on Oct-09-2009 05:07:

I called her Poppy, unkind people called it a road whale or a land yacht. Especially trying to park it, I'd own another one but there's nowhere to put it.

Land yacht I like it.

Sounds like you need a bigger garage Lilith! Or to sell one of your cars

Well I sold the MX5, 4 months to do up, 6 months of teaching HRH how to use a manual, lol oh well.
The little grey Corolla is next on the block, but that's going to be a hard decision, such a well mannered car that never gives us any trouble and uses almost nothing in fuel, so horridly ugly and boring though. But I still use it a lot, so it'll stay until I get fed up with it... run off and buy something unreliable and foolish again.

Course, finding a house with a 3 car garage will set me back the better side of 2.5-3 in this part of town.

You've still got the Mitsubishi?

Posted by Lilith on Oct-09-2009 05:34:

HRH has a Mitsubishi Outlander too now which is quite nice and thank goodness she didn't buy a 2nd hand BMW. Not sure what to do with mine, the Mitsubishi Racing spec is very rare, there was less than 500 of them ever made so I'll probably just leave it there in its stock set up and maybe use it about once a week.

We will be taking it to Bathurst this weekend to see my uncle & aunt, watch the race on TV, drink and eat to excess

I gather that HRH refers to your girlfriend/wife, but does that stand for 'Her Royal Highness'? If so:

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she meant by it
