it also helps not to be totally fucked up on drugs when trying to hail a taxi. one taxi driver pretty much hit the gas when he saw my ass coming for his car grinding my teeth like there was no tomorrow

Posted by first in space on Jun-14-2010 07:12:

but if you're sober just walk a little ways down figueroa and you'll find cabs. but last year it was pretty insane with every one leaving at the same time. expect spend some time walking/waiting

Where are the afterparties?

and

Who's down to avoid the cluster and get limo service?

Posted by Thriller on Jun-15-2010 04:38:

I just saw on Ticketmaster's website that 2-day VIP tickets went up $50 bucks , but I was able to scoop up the tickets on Groove Tickets for $266. Does anyone remember what time they opened will call last year and if there was a separate will call for VIP ticket holders?

Posted by jimji1005 on Jun-15-2010 05:41:

VIP and GA will call is the same place. Will call is fast. Just show them ur DL and CC. no drama. Smooth.

Last year I got to will call right when they were opening up which was 4PM, line was super fast. Most ppl didn't make it there till 7 or 8. So if you get to will call by 2 i would think you will literally walk in.

i think official after parties info will be released later, but unofficial after parties some of them gets released at the end of the event.

No dice on the limo. Would just grab a cab and bail when the traffic gets bad around the arena. There are constructions on a lot of the streets so when it gets crowded it can get pretty slow.

I tried taking a cab from the Sports Arena/Coliseum a coupla years back, and saw maybe 4 cabs come by in 15 minutes while thousands of people were leaving. I'd recommend taking the number of a few local taxi companies. Then your odds will be better since there will be 5 or 6 cabs instead of only 4.

Seriously though, this worked for me once after Nocturnal Wonderland. Although the taxi company said it was pretty much impossible to find anyone with so many people around, when one came by I got priority since I had already called for one.

I would say that 99.98% of the crowd going to EDC drives though, or maybe walks over from USC...

...also, this is NOT a good area to be walking around at night, especially if you are alone. If necessary, find a big group of people and stay with them...that's what the security will yell at you on the way out too!

I tried to take a cab during MM in 09. Was not a fun experience.

If you leave 1hr before the end, your chance of getting a cab is pretty good. There will be TONS of cabs circling the event. But there is no official cab stop.

I also recommend you to walk a little away from the convention, north perhaps to flag a cab.

Posted by Tosh on Jun-15-2010 19:35:

Why doesn't the promoter make a cab stop? The police were stopping cabs at POP and saying "Bring every cab you have between 1-3am!"

Posted by jimji1005 on Jun-16-2010 01:35:

Btw, all the cabs that I have been on does not run on meters at these events. They just 'gives you' a price. So don't be surprised if the meter isn't runnin when you hop on.

Another silly question: Are there accessible wall outlets throughout the coliseum? I don't think my phone will be able to sustain one charge each day .

There are a lot actually, especially if you are VIP.

They are inside the tunnels of the coliseum. Also make sure to smuggle the cable in, they might not "let" you go in with the cable.

On the base of the coliseum floor there might be some, or you can just give a vendor like 20 bucks to use one of their outlets. So be considerate and bring a splitter so you are not taking 1 on their outlets, and just like anything offer them some money for them doing you that favor...

Don't bother, you won't be able to make phone calls or send texts because the signal will be jammed. Just turn off your phone till after EDC when everyone scatters

Posted by Thriller on Jun-16-2010 05:51:

I got VIP tickets, so I'll try both options. Thanks

I didn't have problems with txts using Verizon in 2008 or Sprint in 2009.

What about calls or your signal constantly lost? And where you in the Coliseum?

Everyones battery drains quickly because the phones are always searching for a signal

Then you have the phone turned off most of the time. only turn it on when you have to.

Or if you have an iPhone or any other kind of smart phone just click over to airplane mode. Then just randomly click back to regular mode so you can get your texts and voice-mails and make phone calls.

I think I probably check this thread like 10 times a day at least. God I can't wait to be back in California dancing my ass off to music I actually like.

I don't remember if I called anyone. I doubt it because it was too loud to talk in most areas.

I still had some juice by the end of the night, but I don't remember how much.

edc is for 12hrs. Since no one can hear their cellphones going off or feel the vibs ppl will constantly check on it. Turning on the screen etc. Waste of battery. Plus there is barely ANY signal at the Colosseum. I usually bring a spare. On days I don't have a spare I will just turn it on once every half hour. Find a spot with reception and just go there to get it.

Plus, 100k + kids jamming the signal isn't helping the cell towers.

Posted by darthseph on Jun-17-2010 03:24:

Regarding the whole cell phone discussion: Never had a problem as I don't need to check it constantly. I have Verizon and never put it into any mode or anything and still got home (San Diego) with plenty of charge. I was all over the place throughout the night.
