What I meant was as far as them playing as a whole team instead of just one or two players standing out..as a whole I think this was their best played game. They may not have scored but they definitely dominated right until the bitter end.

They are a team with skill and will be a team that people will be taking more seriously in the future I think instead of some of the comments that were made about them this year.
You watch the euro or next wc and I guarantee you will see them at the top where they belong

wow...lots of hate towards portugal...i didn't see the game..(come to think of it, i didn't watch tv at all this weekend), but i heard it was really dirty. i'm very disappointed in the team. they're other games were clean and for them to go out and do something like this is uncalled for.
i'm so surprised how a bunch of you start going crazy and saying how portugal is the worst and a bunch of crooks or whatever. if i recall correctly, iran was body checking portugal last game everytime they charged there net.

So from not seeing the game I wouldn't say that it was just portugal playing poorly but netherlands was playing just as bad. and the foul stats.

Por: :Ned
10 Fouls 15
9 Yellow Cards 7
2 Red Cards 2

also, with the red cards, with portugal is was a hand ball and an ungentlemanly conduct of kicking the ball away. 2 yellows which resulted in 2 reds. both very stupid...for netherlands it was an elbow which is basically an automatic red and a hacking of tiago's legs, both second yellows and followed by reds. both stupid plays by both teams.

Good Luck Portugal against England.

About POR - NED game yesterday,

I think, if anything, both teams showed that they arent strong contenders in this world cup. I support the Netherlands, and although they dominated most of the game, they couldnt finish. Offense has been a ? threw all the games for them. If you cant put the ball in the net, you cant win. They certainly had their chances, and if Cocu got that cross-bar shot in, i think they would have won in end. Their defense screwed up on the Maniche goal, and Portugal took advantage, and that was the difference. Holland couldnt finish, and i was shocked that van Nistelrooy did not come on in the 2nd half when they were up a man. They clearly needed finish and he is one of the best at finishing in the box.

Also, for an elimination match, both teams played rather stupid with regards to all the yellow cards and fouls. I cant really blame the ref on this on the number of red cards issued, they were all deserving. In fact, IMO, Figo should have got a red card for head butting the dutch player, and Sneijder should have got one too for throwing a portugese player to the ground. I know

IMO, both teams showed lack of sportsmanship & class, and i especially didnt like how Portugal chose not to play and rather kill time in the 2nd half. However, one of their players was sent off because of it, and now they must enter their next game against England without two of their starters. I still think they have a good chance against England, but if they do beat them, i think that will be the farthest they go.

I have been saying this all day long as I partied on the streets for pride after watching that damn game.

First of all, Holland outplayed those panzy ass players Portugal calls a team. Ronaldo.. did he really need to milk that scratch for all it was worth. And the calls made in this game, pfft... I will not blame the ref'ing but you know I think it is pretty pathetic when heads are just turned to calls that were quite obvious.

As for Holland, I have never seen them play a better game then I saw them come out onto the field with today. They had their shit together and they were out there to win. Even til the very bitter end they fought for that goal and that makes me proud of them
At times their defense I think is still a little weak but overall today was an excellent game played by them. Van der Sar was on his game again and Portugal's goal, he didn't have a chance.

And yes, I am gonna sound like a bitter loser right now, but I hope Portugal goes out next game, cuz they aren't the ones that deserve to be there.

PS. yes I am still mad about the loss incase you didn't notice

HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. Jenn, I hope I drove you crazy yesterday with my flaunting The calls the ref made were fair...if anything, Deco's red card was not deserved since he picked up the ball AFTER the ref blew the whistle. Quit yo whining!

Although soccer players are known to be actors at times, he got kicked in the leg with cleats. That is very painful and the spot he got kicked in made it very hard for him to stay mobile im sure. And i think the fact that he had to leave the game was clear enough that he wasnt milking anything.

They were much better at FIFA 98 ago with Dennis Bergkamp, Frank and Ronald de Boer, Edgar Davids, Patrik Kluivert, etc. This team, although good, simply didnt have the attack and finish of previous dutch teams. I liked their game yesterday too, since they did control most of it and really brought it to the Portugese, but they were missing a whole dimension to their game and thats what killed them.

Wow that Italy game right now was just a total joke...Italy did not to win that game

Posted by loca on Jun-26-2006 16:54:

Typical Italian win, on a penalty that was really a dive. Long live Italian swan diving!

Posted by legendary_waz on Jun-26-2006 16:55:

That was the biggest BS I have seen by a referee. Australia outplayed the Italians hands down. They dont deserve to go on. UA will show them how to play once they get past the Swiss

Makes up for 1994.

Now we're even.

edit: Don't forget how the refs screwed Italy in 2002. I know that doesn't make up for it now, but hey, swan diving is elegent, and Italians are elegant.

Posted by TheNeonAlien on Jun-26-2006 17:00:

Wow....... we suck.

Refs have always and will always make mistakes.

It's time one went our way for once.

If the Aussies "outplayed" the Italians, why was the score 0-0 before the penalty?

Man o' Man! What started as a great cup is slowly turning into a joke!

This was the same ref that basically knocked Italy out of the last cup (Korea) I guess he returned the favour!!!

cause they have to rely on strong defending......

im saying they didnt create chances for themselves (especially with time winding down)

the ball was in australian possession 59% in the second half (according to the announcer)... hence outplayed.

the italians just got lucky that the ref bought that dive...

EDIT: yup, i was right: 59% Aus, 41% Italy > Source
