Saftey in Detroit...for those of you not experienced with it.

Detroit is NOT that bad of a city, but it isn't good either...

Here are my tips for out of towners, some may not agree or think i'm being stupid, but I've lived in Windsor all my life and been to the D many times...many great places, many awesome people. As Fedde said, it's a lovely city. But everywhere has it's bad, and there is a reason that it get's its reputation.

Need to be careful, especially with many of us not aware of the areas, nieghbourhoods, venues and at night. ie. The Works is not in the best area, St Andrews has it's fair share of weird in it's surroundings.

Detroit is an animal so treat it as such.

Don't act afraid, Detroit smells fear...

Don't cower and retreat either...

Don't fluff your feathers like a bird to appear aggresive, Detroit preys on that. Don't be loud, don't be beligerant, don't be disrepectful...

Ignore anything "Detroit'ish", don't make a scene, don't gawk, act like it's normal, don't point and don't make it obvious that you and your friends are talking about it. This means anything, people you see, actions, places, etc...

Don't walk alone, keep your cell phone at all times (but don't be on it all the time letting everyone know you have a $500+ iphone/BlackBerry), keep minimal cash and don't dress flashy (ie, expensive watches, jewlery, etc)..

May seem like common sense, but just letting you all know as a friendly reminder!

I bet some Detroit peeps who are viewing this thread will make fun of me lol...

Don't be afraid, BUT be careful...

But have fun... don't let the above put a bad taste in your mouth, enjoy DEMF and meet new amazing people and see brilliant cool places... but be safe!

18 more hours...

It's a chance, but if you wait till closer of departure for the boat, they sell more. Many people buy tickets, then bail out cuz they are too raved out from the day... so if they are not at capacity they will let people on.

Impossible. On the event page on FB, Paxahau said that there was a waiting list of over 200 people, no guestlists of any kind @ the door and no tickets available @ door, the boat is at full capacity. Who knows at boarding time, but I doubt they will.

Said the SAME thing last year... yet, there they were, tickets on sale!

Heh, good marketing strategy. Make everyone think EVERYONE wants to be there, and it's enough

And honestly, he is WAY overrated anyways...

Hawtin's dj sets have been hit or miss the past few years, but when he's on - look out!

Ricardo is def a bit overrated, but I think that comes with the whole thing that he hasn't come to the US for a while, being a bit of a music genius, plus he's a very hard booking to get anywhere in the world. But you all have to admit, when he's on, his sets are nothing short of a f*cking revelation.

I doubt Richie will be a miss @ home... but you never know. Like you said, I'm one of them hoping he better play the best set of his life. I've seen Richie miss way too many times. Combine that with the fact that I'm stuck with the boat tickets, and I will be very pissed off if he sucks.

I will agree the he can be hit or miss (just like Richie) but he is more often than not hit. Especially when he is playing with someone like he would have been on the boat. I have seen him almost 10 times since the end of 2007 and have to say he has been responsible for probably 3 of my top 5 parties in that time and by far the best set I have heard over that time at Berghain.

Him not showing up is a huge loss but the festival will still be great.

Hi, first time poster here.

My first DEMF, I was only there on Saturday. Favourite acts: Plastikman (wish I was able to get closer), A-Trak (does some incredible things, best that I've seen him), Claude Von Stroke (wow). There was some solid DJs in the Torino tent during the day too.

I went to Vain after to see Ida Engberg, Marco Carola, and Adam Beyer; they suddenly kicked everyone out at 3 AM???? I'm not sure if they were over capacity, or had technical difficulties or what.

Compared to Ultra/WMC (went past 2 years), there was definitely a different vibe. Smaller, more old school ravers and friendly people than Miami. But the Carl Cox tent at Ultra will always have a special place in my heart.

The price is damn cheap; Can't wait for next year!

From what I heard there was a shooting that happened around the corner from Vain - it shut down all of the clubs in that area. I know all the people from the Centre St were pretty pissed. But the Vain party wasnt suppose to go much past 3 anyways... from what I read it wasnt an official afterhours venue and it would be shut down by the police.

My first DEMF was amazing... my review to come today/tonight/whenever I can find words for this incredible adventure.
