I wouldnt be surprised if Real end up tossing him out given their absolute disregard for player and manager alike but then again he is a massive favorite among the fans at the Bernabeu so perhaps Ronaldo might have to settle for 9.

And beckham was sponsored by adidas whereas CR7 is Nike endorsed who are absolutely ruthless about their product lines. CR9 also sounds catchy but it would again have to be built from scratch and would conflict with the fact that he also wears the #7 at Portugal.

I know this justification defies sporting logic but this deal just screams sales and marketing so much that it just seems like brand image will take precedence over everything else. Only time will tell.

And i believe Kaka turned down the #5 jersey even though Perez was keen for him to take it because he felt wrong to take over a number last worn by Zidane and have comparisons drawn.

Kakas a humble guy and i dont think hel be affected to much by Ronaldo taking center stage unless the Madrid act like all the rest of the team is second fiddle. The people most greatful for Kakas move would be those at his Church given he donates a certain percentage of his wages to them which will now no doubt atleast triple

All this talk about footballers and their brands is making me nauseous.

Ferguson know's exactly what he's doing, he's thinking with his head unlike Perez who has to be thinking with his dick or something.

reports in Spanish press claim we have now acquired the services of Karim Benzema, great prospect but unecessary signing imo, we already got Higuian, Huntelaar, Negredo all excellent young forwards.

U claim to be a Madrid fan but you overlook that Perez' philosophy is to generate mega revenue through tv rights and sales. Trophies dont matter to him and im willing to bet that Madrid will not win either the La Liga or the Champions League this year but will generate insane amounts of cash through shirt sales and tv rights.

Benzema is better than all the strikers you mentioned above combined. Hes only 21 and is the most complete striker I have seen in a while and was the player i would have gladly seen at United and kicked Ronaldo out but the money and the spanish weather won out.

You forget that players only join Madrid for the prestige of playing for the worlds richest club not the most successful in recent times.

Benzema to Real Madrid confirmed. La Liga is going to be SOOO good this season.

+ Raul + RVN (who possibly still knocks in 25 a season)

stupid signing, so no problem for me

Ol' horseface is wanted by Blackburn, and I'm betting Real Madrid are wanting to do a bit of purging to make a feeble attempt to keep up with the spending.

recently not but historically the MOST successful club in the world. I think it is easy to criticize RM because we didn't win CL's in the last 7 years and we didn't play quarters in the last 5 years but between 1997-2002 we have won the same CL's than Manutd in 50 years more or less.

Stop crying for Real Madrid. Ferguson wanted and ofered for Karim more than RM but he prefers to play here. Why? The same as Cristiano. The weather, the people and much more is important, yes i know. We have these advantages respect to England.

Ronaldo -> It was my dream to play for Madrid
Benzema -> Cesar Delgado has revealed that Karim Benzema has always wanted to play for Real Madrid
Kaka' -> Kaka at Real Madrid: a Dream Coming True
Franck Ribry: I only want Real Madrid (not Manchester United).Chelsea and Manchester United knocked back by Franck Ribry

I hope we can sign David Silva, Ribry, Xavi Alonso and Arbeloa. 90 millions left.

OMG this year la Liga Espaola is going to be really amazing. Bara (the best club of 2009) vs. Real Madrid. Crazy! Can't fucking wait!

If Madrid fail to win anything this year , they will be an even bigger laughing stock than this year when they lost in straight sets (6-2) to Barcelona. Oh my bad , i forgot that was a football match

In any case, personal support aside , Manchester United seems to be the only club funding transfers out of their own past earnings that stemmed from their modern day success.

Chelsea and Manchester City , not to many complaints because the signings are coming out of their owners wealth so if they screw up , the owner loses his personal income. However, Madrid is a completely bastardizing the system by forcing banks to lend them the money to make these signings. There is absolutely no way that they can pay this sum back given that all these players they signed are easily on 120k+ a week salaries in addition to their massive transfer fees and no amount of success can repay that much money spent in a single season.

Its going to be an interesting season for sure.

Lol all these signings and you guys are still hungering for more. You do realize that you have a squad of 22 players already half of whom will need to be offloaded in order to balance the books. Clubs are aware that madrid are desperate to sell and everyone will be gone for cheap.

Im still very surprised at the pulling power of Madrid that makes players want to play there over Manchester United or Barcelona. They dont care about players or managers and treat them like fashion - in this year out the next. Salary wise United and Barca can match madrid for the most part and more importantly - both have enjoyed far more success than Madrid have in the past. Theres obviosuly something that i dont know about Madrids appeal, but whatever it is , it sounds shady.

I don't know whether its been mentioned but sepp blatter's reaction to the amount of money madrid are spending in contrast to his subsequent criticism of the level of spending in the EPL makes for some comedy reading..

Look it up.

The disadvantage of that is it's not easy to unloaded unwanted players (Sneidjer for example)

lol and Platini as well.

When United and Chelsea were picking up everyone around, Platini was all over the place voicing his concerns that England are ruining the game and that salary caps are badly needed and also to implement stricter restrictions about poaching youngsters from other clubs.

With Madrids spending spree (which pretty much dwarfs what United and Chelsea have spent combined in 3 seasons) Platini stated that Ronaldos fees was excessive and the transfer fees are a bit of a concern.

No statements of we need to implement stricter controls or introduce a salary cap at the earliest. Bloody double standards

Real Madrid offered more for Benzema, United less, and Lyon accepted Real Madrid's offer.
