make sure to wipe it with a warm damp cloth, or that shit will dry up and you would have to use your finger nails to scratch it off

Most certainly. Took a Mercedes S600 out for a test drive yesterday and to look at it you'd think it was just any other S Class. Sitting at about 65mph on the interstate, wait for a nice spot to open up and floor it. Felt like an aircraft taking off but sat absolutely perfectly seated on the road. I've driven some fairly quick cars before but for the size and the comfort level it offered it makes it even more appealing.

It made me wonder how much faster the S65 AMG really is! Personally I'd rather have the slightly understated looks of the 600 and save the cash

At 500bhp and 0-60 in a shade over 4.5 seconds it made me wonder how much faster the S65 AMG really feels! Personally I'd rather have the slightly understated looks of the 600 and save the cash

The new MK6's are quite hot. Loving the new styling a LOT.

Think of it like this...the S600 has a nuclear bomb under the bonnet, the S65 has a warp drive

Out of interest have you driven both? I was wondering if the stats didn't do the driving experience of the S65 justice. I'm not sure I can justify the 30% premium over a 600.

I've not seen any detailed side by side reviews of the 600 vs. the 65...

That's a really nice matte paint job. I've seen pictures of a Mercedes C63 AMG with a matte paint job on a MB forum and it looked awful, like it was covered in brake dust! Apparently the guy spent five figures on it

from the owner of that beast:

quote:
The matt car is based in Singapore. It took about 6 days for the car to be wrapped in a matt black "sticker".

Cost of the job was about US$1700 as compared to a full matt black paint job which would have cost about US$2300. The obvious advantage of the sticker job is that if you get tired of it, just peel it off and polish. Unlike paint which if you want to revert to the original color would cost you another US$2300.

Maintenance is super easy... just wash or jet off. No polishing.

and similar job (carbon wrap) done to an R8

Now this is the real "Bad Ass".

Posted by leph555 on Dec-02-2009 22:06:

the guy that owns the matte gtr also has a scud

edit:

i think i know where he lives in Singapore, anyone mind "borrowing" them and putting them on the next ship to the USofA?

nah, the most poverful benz i had a chance to drive was a SL55AMG, did have a ride in the s600 though....smooooooth.

But someone i know who id drive both said that to me, so i i though that was the best way to describe it. The main problem in these cars is that you dont really know how fast youre going. My daily driver is a small diesel fiat, then you take one of these on the highway, at night when theres no traffic and you hit the limiter before you even know youre doing 250kph...so amazingly quiet and smooth that you reach twice the legal speed limit before you even know it

Me too. You think they haven't done much, but when you see the Mk5 and Mk6 beside each other, they are actually very different cars.

Posted by Moongoose on Dec-02-2009 22:59:

I used to think that the Mk6 looked much worse than the k5, but now the damn thing has gown on me. Still dont care, prefer the 1-series, even over the GTi.

I really like that aggressive styling that they have favoured in the Mk6. Similar to the new Scirocco. It is so befitting of the body. Absolutely fantastic.

My dad had a silver '04 SL 55 AMG. I have never felt more torque in my life with that thing, even compared to the '07 Zo6 Vette he owns now (much faster 0-60 though in the Vette). That supercharged engine in the 55 was a beast. Haven't driven the naturally aspirated 63 to compare though. As for the 65, a guy at my gym has one. It's the ultimate monster SL but I can't imagine anything more Torquey than the 55. For regualar city/ bumper to bumper traffic driving, it's borderline dangerous, at least here in Miami. (I'd still take it in a heartbeat of course )

No joke. My father had the previous generation S500 soon after it came out. After a couple of years of riding in it as a passenger, passing my driving test he let me drive it. Before doing so alone he took me out on the motorway, covered the speedo with a piece of paper and asked me to take it to 80mph. He removed the paper and I was doing 120mph. It scared the crap out of me because despite riding in that car for two years I had so little sense of speed.

55 AMG engine - 516 lb/ft torque
600 V12 - 590 lb/ft
63 AMG - 465 lb/ft
65 AMG - 738 lb/ft

Holy shit, I had no idea the 65 produced that much torque versus the other high end Benz engines. That's insanity!
