They must have improved the recipe, because I had some a couple of weeks ago and you could really taste the apricot, whereas when I had one several years ago it was very faint and almost not there.

I loved it. Found it refreshing and flavourful without being sweet. Was better than I was expecting.

Lol, did you ask him why the hell you got a Hoegaarden when asking for a regular beer?

On the card it said something like wheat beer. It's certainly not what we Bavarians consider as a wheat beer.
I actually said something like "Sorry, I think there's a mistake. I didn't order a cocktail." Waiter replied that it's whoregarden. I was like

Also, what is it with the Dutch serving beer only as 0.25 or 0.3 litre. "Oa Halbe" aka 0.5 litre is the standard size, ffs!

Google Translate says both "witbier" and "tarwebier" translate to wheat beer, do I think there's a slight difference. Could you point out what you do consider a wheat beer? And what would you call a Hoegaarden?

And yeah I know, most places only serve "fluitjes" (flutes, 0.25), or "vaasjes" (vases, 0.3). It's stupid, it's as like they think we don't know how to properly chug half a litre!

Posted by Meat187 on Feb-14-2012 19:30:

What I usually drink as Weizen (wheat beer) is 'Andechser Weissbier', 'Franziskaner', 'Hacker Pschorr' or 'Paulaner'.

Can't really tell how Hoegaarden is different from them, it just tastes like they put some lemonade in there. And it's served like a cocktail.

Posted by Frenkieee on Feb-14-2012 19:34:

Is Weizen the same as Weiss though?

Posted by srussell0018 on Feb-14-2012 19:36:

Wheat beers get served like cocktails because they are beers for bitches.

In Bavaria it's usually called Weibier. Afaik it's the same, unless the brewery does something strange.

Shut up, srussell. Irish people are only qualified to talk about whiskey, not beer.

Posted by Frenkieee on Feb-14-2012 19:44:

A short Google search turned out witbier, tarwebier, Weibier, Weizenbier and wheat beer all means the same.

Now all the smoke here has cleared, onto the Champions League and a beer!

Irish people are qualified to talk about beer because they make the best beer of all time.

Delirium Tremens. Best Belgian Ale I've had yet, followed closely by Terrible. Very good stuff.

I'm up here in mammoth so I've been sampling the brews from their local brewery. Aside from this double chocolate porter they've been kinda underwhelming. They're cheap at the bars, at least

Wasn't planning on drinking tonight but RJT is playing some sexy tunes in the bedroom sessions so I just opened up a SNPA.
