Before doing so alone he took me out on the motorway, covered the speedo with a piece of paper and asked me to take it to 80mph. He removed the paper and I was doing 120mph. It scared the crap out of me because despite riding in that car for two years I had so little sense of speed.

Ok now imagine that you dont normally drive in a car that good, but rather in a noisy smally diesel, then you get the chance to take s well made and powerful car on a drive when theres no traffic and no landmarks to see because its so damn dark...its like hiolly crap ive hit the speed limiter, and it took les time that it takes my car to get to highway speed, and its quiter than my car when tis turned off Can really confuse a person if hes not used to it. people say that they dont understand how the big german cars can cost so much money while some makers can put out something for as little as 5k EUR...fuck it ive driven a well made big german car and i can totally understand where the 150.000EUR price tag comes from.

To quote the god of motoring journalism, a mr Clarkson when he was talking about the 65AMG...God didnt have that much power and torque when he created the world Seriously...warp drive.

Am still crossing my fingers that i will e able to attend the next bmw drive that the local dealership is having to celebrate the launch of the new 5 series...i would love to take the new 550 for a drive, and that 760Li that they have in the shop...that things just insane

Yeah, and I also remember the controversy when they switched from supercharger to naturally aspirated from the 55 to the 63. Shame bc that 55 was a real monster.

I didn't realise the S63 was so weezy.

I'd forgotten about that test drive. Where he turned the traction control off and the wheels just span but the car didn't move an inch

11 minutes of group b car porn sans butt rock soundtrack

Group B is probably my favourite era of motorsports.

I love how the video gave cameos of some lesser know Group B weapons like the FB RX-7, Opel Manta (well known over here, but not in North America), Datsun 240 RS...

There was even a BMW M1 in the mix.

My fav Group B car is tough to call. Audi Sport quattro short wheelbase (but without the ridiculous wings of the Pikes Peak / high downforce variants?), the Peugeot 205 T16? The Delta S4 which was the ultimate cause of the cancellation of Group B regulations? Renault R5 Maxi?

I have seen all of these for sale here in road-car trim.

I don't know which one I would buy if I had the choice (and funds) though I certainly wouldn't kick any of them out of bed....and I would likely buy the one that was for sale when i could afford it

Posted by gehzumteufel on Dec-06-2009 22:04:

I still have a special place for the 959 Group B rally car.

Posted by Fledz on Dec-06-2009 22:15:

Was watching Top Gear yesterday and now all of a sudden I want a Lancia Stratos. What a shame it costs over a million dollars

Posted by gehzumteufel on Dec-06-2009 22:18:

I would love to have a lot of older cars. So many awesome ones.

Posted by Moongoose on Dec-06-2009 22:19:

It was just insane, how back in those days people would wait until the last possible second to gt off the road before the car would run them over.

Also, if i ever get rich, my garage will be full of classic cars...starting with the Ferrari daytona, 250gto and the 56 Sl300 Gullwing

Yeah but so many fucking badass pictures came from those guys too!

Thats true, but such uncontrollable crowds were one fo the reasons for the demise of group b.

Unfortunately.

Posted by Moongoose on Dec-06-2009 22:32:

probably for the best...those cars were getting quite dangeous after all. There was a 1000hp audi sport quattro prototype, now thats just insane.

Though one can only imagine how it wouldd have effected ordinary road cars if group b was left intact.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Dec-06-2009 22:34:

Yeah there is a lot of speculation as to how it would have affected the road going counterparts, but we will unfortunately, never know. Although, with the number of deaths steadily increasing, it was inevitable. At some point, it was going to be too much.

Weren't a bunch of the cars back then still 2 wheel drive, and usually real wheel? Holy mother of God that would have been dangerous. I've seen how fucked my car is when it's wet, let alone on a dirt track doing 200km/h.

Nah rally cars were/are for the most part awd. At least the later ones.

RS200, Porsche 959, Sport Quattro, etc.

Posted by Moongoose on Dec-06-2009 23:16:

Yes but youre driving a holden right? So its only natural that it would have fucked uup handling

the most succesfull cars of the B group era were AWD though, Lancia 037 being the last RWD car to win the championship (the audi sport quatro with its awd was superior but surprisingly the german was much more unreliable than the italian so the championship went to lancia)

Posted by Fledz on Dec-06-2009 23:37:

Yep, the car wants to move but the back wheels are happy to spin around in one spot

Posted by Moongoose on Dec-07-2009 03:20:

Well youre thinking of replacing your current car anyway right. Seriously, get a bmw...doesnt have to be a new one, a mid 90s 5 series should do nicely, put some decent rubber on those wheels and the only time youll loose traction then will be when you really really want to

Thats what i intend to do when i get some money back...but oh the eternal question, petrol or diesel, i just cant decide. Petrol would put a smile on my face any time i would take it out for a drive while diesel would be greatly appreciated by my wallet considering i drive a lot...decisions decisions...

Posted by gehzumteufel on Dec-07-2009 03:21:

loose, eh? How loose was it?

Yea but I change cars for free. It's a company car and I have a limited but fairly decent selection.

Plus, as if I'd buy an actual BMW. Are you kidding me? What a fucking joke the BMW has become, I don't want to even be seen in a BMW let alone buy one.
