| Originally posted by fbgdavidson No joke. My father had the previous generation S500 soon after it came out. After a couple of years of riding in it as a passenger, passing my driving test he let me drive it. Before doing so alone he took me out on the motorway, covered the speedo with a piece of paper and asked me to take it to 80mph. He removed the paper and I was doing 120mph. It scared the crap out of me because despite riding in that car for two years I had so little sense of speed. |
Can really confuse a person if hes not used to it. people say that they dont understand how the big german cars can cost so much money while some makers can put out something for as little as 5k EUR...fuck it ive driven a well made big german car and i can totally understand where the 150.000EUR price tag comes from.| quote: |

11 minutes of group b car porn sans butt rock soundtrack
Group B is probably my favourite era of motorsports.
I love how the video gave cameos of some lesser know Group B weapons like the FB RX-7, Opel Manta (well known over here, but not in North America), Datsun 240 RS...
There was even a BMW M1 in the mix.
My fav Group B car is tough to call. Audi Sport quattro short wheelbase (but without the ridiculous wings of the Pikes Peak / high downforce variants?), the Peugeot 205 T16? The Delta S4 which was the ultimate cause of the cancellation of Group B regulations? Renault R5 Maxi?
I have seen all of these for sale here in road-car trim.
I don't know which one I would buy if I had the choice (and funds) though I certainly wouldn't kick any of them out of bed....and I would likely buy the one that was for sale when i could afford it
I still have a special place for the 959 Group B rally car.
Was watching Top Gear yesterday and now all of a sudden I want a Lancia Stratos. What a shame it costs over a million dollars
I would love to have a lot of older cars. So many awesome ones.
It was just insane, how back in those days people would wait until the last possible second to gt off the road before the car would run them over.
Also, if i ever get rich, my garage will be full of classic cars...starting with the Ferrari daytona, 250gto and the 56 Sl300 Gullwing

Thats true, but such uncontrollable crowds were one fo the reasons for the demise of group b.

probably for the best...those cars were getting quite dangeous after all. There was a 1000hp audi sport quattro prototype, now thats just insane.
Though one can only imagine how it wouldd have effected ordinary road cars if group b was left intact.
Yeah there is a lot of speculation as to how it would have affected the road going counterparts, but we will unfortunately, never know. Although, with the number of deaths steadily increasing, it was inevitable. At some point, it was going to be too much.
Weren't a bunch of the cars back then still 2 wheel drive, and usually real wheel? Holy mother of God that would have been dangerous. I've seen how fucked my car is when it's wet, let alone on a dirt track doing 200km/h.

Yes but youre driving a holden right? So its only natural that it would have fucked uup handling
the most succesfull cars of the B group era were AWD though, Lancia 037 being the last RWD car to win the championship (the audi sport quatro with its awd was superior but surprisingly the german was much more unreliable than the italian so the championship went to lancia)
Yep, the car wants to move but the back wheels are happy to spin around in one spot
Well youre thinking of replacing your current car anyway right. Seriously, get a bmw...doesnt have to be a new one, a mid 90s 5 series should do nicely, put some decent rubber on those wheels and the only time youll loose traction then will be when you really really want to
Thats what i intend to do when i get some money back...but oh the eternal question, petrol or diesel, i just cant decide. Petrol would put a smile on my face any time i would take it out for a drive while diesel would be greatly appreciated by my wallet considering i drive a lot...decisions decisions...
loose, eh? How loose was it?
