I can relate, when the Penguins lost game 7 to the Islanders back in '93 it was a tough one for me to swallow.. Anyway these playoffs have been the best I've seen in years. I can't wait for the conf. finals to start..

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE

Sad

I'm crying because the Canucks lost. They definitely deserved to lose judging by how they played, but they were also by far the best team to watch.

LOL!!! No one predicted yet. I guess I'll make my predictions. A little late but it's all good. Just make ur predictions by the 3rd game and we'll all count it.

[6]Minnesota Wild vs. [7]Anaheim Mighty Ducks

I don't really know how to predict this one. The Ducks knocked off the two best teams out there. The Wild did something equivalent. I say Ducks in 6!!! Giguere will be huge and our jaws will drop time and time again.

[1]Ottawa Senators vs. [2]New Jersey Devils

This is a pretty interesting defensive match up. I like the Devils cuz their defensive routine (the trap) is working for them. They have key players such as Madden and Langenbrunner (He's good but I still hate that fool). Oh of course you have Brodeur. Devils in 7.

Posted by Mixologist on May-12-2003 01:53:

ducks in 6. they got the disney magic going
ottawa in 6. too talented for the boring devils to handle

Posted by hbrd on May-12-2003 12:02:

Minnesota in 7 and New Jersey in 7.

but anyone know what is gigueres save% in playoffs?

Giguere's Stats:

Games Played: 11
W-L Record: 9-2
Goals Against Average: 1.42
Save Percentage: .954 = 95.4%

Wow!!! These numbers are superb!

Devils Vs. Senators
NJ in 7

Ducks Vs. Wild
I have no idea, I'm baffled

Posted by hbrd on May-13-2003 19:27:

nice game AGAIN by Giguere..

Why he is hot NOW?

Posted by grift69 on May-13-2003 20:48:

Giguere has been absolutely dominating throughout the playoffs. But only cause he is so positionally sound to the shooter and the Anaheim defense takes away all quality scoring chances and leaves opposition to low % shots. Quite possibly the best showing by a goalie in the playoffs since Roy with the 93 Montreal team IMO. Ducks in 5. New Jersey vs. Ottawa. I'm gonna have to go with New Jersey on this one, Brodeur has such an advantage. Madden is playing like a sniper instead of a defensice specialist. Langenbruenner is continueing his solid playoff performance while keeping under the radar. New Jersey in 7.

Grift

A bit late but this is what I was thinking before the round started. After watching the first 2 Min/Anh games, I'm going to say Ducks in 5 .

ahah my fuckin god. how aweful is that western conference final? jesus i have never seen such a boring ass series since i started watching hockey. this shit is like fuckin soccer on ice. if this is the future of hockey then im gonna quit watching it. the league has to do something to eliminate that fuckin retarded trap tactic. perhaps get rid of the red line or make the ice rink wider. i cant stand watching the defence oriented teams without 0 offence flow. and i hope whoever advances from the western final will get a painful ass rape from ottawa in the finals

the stupid wild made the canucks-wild series boring. i haven't watched hockey since the nucks went out. i can't imagine how much worse it can be with 2 trapping teams.

Posted by J.L. on May-14-2003 06:11:

Minesota Wild have ruined all the excitement from the playoffs this year...
this defensive trap stuff is so stupid

Posted by sebby on May-14-2003 07:54:

Look!!! Hockey is hockey! The majority of the rules have stayed the same. It's just that ever since the 92-93 season, teams have been using the defense first philosophy and there is no rule that says you can't do that.

Hockey has matured to being like this over time. Some people say changing the rules will do better. Others say it'll kill the originality of the game. I think we have a case of dissapointed Canuck fans in this thread that don't want to watch hockey anymore.

I'm not sorry to say this, but the Ducks-Wild series has been entertaining for me. So is soccer in general. You don't like it cuz not enough goals are scored! Too bad. It's a game of strategy.

I don't see baseball being any better. Basketball has too many time outs and Football has to stop play every single down so that the refs need to spot the ball. Every sport has a downside. It's something all of us have to deal with. If you don't want to watch hockey, the coolest game on earth, then it's your loss.

Posted by Mark on May-15-2003 01:39:

its not about the final score. its about the scoring chances that don't come often.

Posted by knsv on May-15-2003 05:14:

Ducks are going to go to the finals and then who knows maybe all the way , minesota today just got RAPED, i dont think they can come back from this one, even though they pulled two miracles in the prior two series.

GO DUCKS GO!!!!!!

PS. Anyone have any tickets for ducks?

My thoughts exactly.. As I mentioned before I'm one of the few who LIKES defensive play. As boring as you say it is I still can't pry myself away from the games.

Posted by puckhead on May-15-2003 22:21:

They had this thing on ESPN where they showed like the best goaltenders of each decade. And the pads just keep getting bigger and bigger.
Even in the 80's, when they had masks and pretty thick pads, there was still a lot of room to shoot. But now you look at guys like Giguere and Roy, they just take up the whole fucking net.
They all wear these extra large shoulder pads and chest pads, and the leg pads are just gigantic now. Even the blockers and gloves are bigger than they were just 10 years ago.
I think the game is as good as it has been (except for the watered down talent), they just need to make those goalie equipments smaller.

Posted by puckhead on May-15-2003 22:24:

ok now back to the topic

is Wild ever gonna score again???
or
is Giguere gonna allow another goal?

Posted by sebby on May-17-2003 08:12:

Giguere doesn't care about shutouts. All he cares about are Wins. Allowing just one goal in Game 4 was more than enough as the Ducks are going to the Finals with the 2-1 win. Ducks are chillin' while the Other series in the East will last at least 2 more games.

That is true, but it still comes down to who's wearing the equipment IMO.

So the Wild have set 2 records in these playoffs: They are the only team to have come back from a 3-1 deficit in a best of 7 series twice in a playoff year; they also hold the record for the least amount of goals in a best of 7 series with 1.

Congratulations. I believe that we'll see more from this monotonous team in the near future.

Onto the Ducks now. Holy fucking shit, what more can I say. Uhh, I guess when you just don't lose, things go quite well in the playoffs. They are the first team to knock off the top two seeds in the same playoff year, and as far as I know, they are the first team to reach the finals with a 12-2 record since the '92 Blackhawks and '92 Penguins.

Go Sens Go!!!

Posted by sebby on May-18-2003 07:10:

After killing the Sens 5-2, I am very confident that the Devils will play the Ducks in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Brodeur vs. Giguere!!!

Thta has a nice ring to it.

Yes the finals will be Devils vs Ducks, it should be an interesting matchup, if ducks take it all the way that would be amazing, Beating 2 heavy favorites before and sweeping two teams ducks are on a powerfull roll, NJ shouldnt underestimate them or they will get spanked like the rest.

Posted by zarathustra on May-18-2003 23:13:

Aw, c'mon Sens, wtf are you doing???!!!
