Back to the topic.
I hate this song, I couldn't listen to more than a minute of it before the vocalists voice gave me a ringing in my ears and a headache. I didn't like the beat either.
Poor old Tijs.

yet my post gets singled out
No you re not still being closed minded. U've explained yourself well and i get more where you are coming from now. There are no hard feelings, don't take it personally. I don't mind a bit of academic debate. My post was in response to all those that were slagging off the use of Skin's (not rain btw mate, althou that it is a cooler name) vocals for the track. It is one thing to say that they would like a dub version, cos they don't like vocals generally, but to say they should Jan johnston etc is just tiresome. It is an angry, frantic sounding song and Skin's vocals do fit the mood of the lyrics and the atmosphere, particularly at the end.

hihi
quote:
I specifically said, and i quote, "I'm not saying have evvvvverrryyy siiinnnggllleeeee song be dreamy, light, fluffy-cloud crap." I fucking agree with you, if you didn't notice. I LIKE dark...I LIKE dirty...I LIKE progressive trance.
no you didnt. you said
quote:
Furthermore, and regardless of what you think about the "same floaty vocals," what do you think makes trance...TRANCE???? Look up the very definition of trance. Does a woman's voice such as this fit in that description?
i think your second quote disproves the first one. you said the EXACT opposite of what you claim to have said in the first one. your second quote of "what do you think makes trance...TRANCE????' leads me to believe that you do think trance has to be "dreamy, light, fluffy-cloud crap." then you also go on to say "I LIKE dark...I LIKE dirty...I LIKE progressive trance." now you would be right, but you HAD to say progressive, didnt you? you couldn't say just trance, which proves the point i was making that you believe only progressive trance can have dark and dirty elements.
quote:
If you go back, look atthe number of people who said it DOESN'T work as compared to the number of people who think it DOES work. Again...READ.
the problem here is you have people saying it doesnt work, simply because they dont like the style. they dont like that its deeper and powerful, they would prefer it light and soft (like southern sun). so them saying it doesnt work, is simply their opinion in terms of their musical taste, it is not in terms of whether it actually DOES work but they just DONT LIKE IT. and by all means, be my guest, go back and count, i believe the yes's have it
quote:
Yet again, something you and I agree on. I'm glad that Tiesto and others are getting a little darker and progressive. Change is good, and if you would have read what I posted in that thread (the link I provided, but yet you must have skipped that too) about people bashing Tiesto, change is in most cases NEEDED and INEVITABLE for an artist to become 'complete.' I'm all for change, and is that is towards a more progressive sound, fine by me!!!!!!
again, you say 'a little darker and progressive'. here, let me reiterate, TRANCE CAN BE DARK AND STILL NOT BE PROGRESSIVE. oh wait, at the end of that paragraph u say 'I'm all for change, and is that is towards a more progressive sound, fine by me!!!!!!'. ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE UP THE BACK, TRANCE CAN BE DARK AND DIRTY AND NOT BE ANY SUBGENRE ON PROGRESSIVE.
quote:
Why, when I write "he produces the Dutch sound' do you automatically assume I am talking about floaty airy shit? Right now, with artists like Fijneman, Tiesto, Impact, etc and others from the black-Hole label and beyond, their styule is RIGHT ON as far as I'm concerned. They have evolved the Dutch sound to something less airy and floaty into something powerful and intense....dirtier and darker. So don't fucking assume when I say 'the Dutch sound" i am talking about happy go-go crap. In fact, I have the Nettwerk release with the Hybrid and ISOS mix on the flip.
why, when i dont even mention 'the dutch sound', do you automatically assume im referring to it when i post? uh oh. YOU FUCKED UP. i dont even know what the fuck 'the dutch sound' is, as if its some mystical place in the clouds where it has a big fucking red marker to outline all the nations and subgenre style of music. the quote you quoted of me and replied to with the above quote, was simply me explaining the natural progression of his style up to the point of this track. it had nothing to do with the dutch style. it was simply that evidence could have been seen many months ago that tiesto was heading down the path to the darkside! let me congratulate you on the nettwerk release with the hybrid and isos mix on the flip, for some reason i just feel to need to congratulate you on that.
quote:
Just like it's not for you to say it is the other way around. Again, flawed logic at work. You tell me I can't say what I believe, but yet I am to accept what you say as "the way"
i never explicity said that her voice belongs in the track, you on
the other hand were quite blatantly clear....
quote:
But, from hearing this sample, her voice, IMHO, a) doesn't sound like it would go well in a 'trancy'-sounding song, period. Also, b) it just doesn't go well with this particluar song.
all i said was that the elements seem to go well together from the rip i had heard. now which seems to be preaching? i think you are. in fact i highlighted the parts in bold and italic, seeing as you're a big fan of such devices.
quote:
Again, the reason HOW I can say her voice doesn't go with this track is the same reason I can whatever the fuck I want about ANYTHING....BECAUSE IT IS MY OPINION, and EVERYONE is entitled to MY opinion
did i ever say you werent entitled to your opinion? no, never.
quote:
As far as the BASIS of forming that opinion, I think you answered it with track quality, badly mixed, crowd noise, etc.
dont you realise that your opinion is based on things that neither tiesto nor the vocalist had any control over?
thats pretty much the basis of my arguement, that you are trying to judge a track in-depth (considering your sizeable post(s)) based on a shitty live recording rip. i found your attack on the vocalist pretty harsh, because comparing her live performance to jan johnstons, she seemed to perform better. take a listen of tiesto at dutch dimension 2/2/02 part 2, and jan johnston is oh so horrible. yet in the studio she sounds perfect, so why couldn't you make the obvious assumption that the vocalist in this track will sound just as awesome, even *gasp*, better than jan johnston!
i aint got nothin against ppl posting their opinion, its the reason this board exists, to discuss and debate opinions of users and their views on music. but if you're gonna post what you posted based on a tmf live performance rip that lasts 5:32mins with overbearing crowd noise and bad mixing between track and live vocals, then you got another thing coming.
oh, btw, goto that site you gave me (www.dictionary.com), and look up 'decimated', its what i just did to you.

thou this part is also funny: | quote: |

or maybe it's this bit: | quote: |
in fact i highlighted the parts in bold and italic, seeing as you're a big fan of such devices.
You no what i've discovered fellow TA's. We have an obsession with cutting and pasting other people posts and then trying to 'decimate' them! And to think i started this all off.......
So who wants to cut and paste this post and 'decimate' it....hmmn...decimate...I really should use such a functional word more often!

ok, well there's no use in even continuing my debate with you, b/c it's more than obvious we won't ever see eye to eye on this, even considering the fact that I have since apologized for giving such a harsh review on such a crappy recording. Take that for what it's worth, and have a good day
