I can't see Cort getting much action, Lua Lua, Chopra, Shearer, Bellamy and Ameobi are all ahead of him, and even if there was a position to fill up front Bobby would probably play Dyer or Robert there before Cort.

Bobby gave an explanation basically along the lines of 'we might need him as cover'. Even if we go far in the UEFA, FA and Carling Cups he'd still have a hard time getting a game. Who knows, if we do progress in all three cups and get a spate of injuries we might need him, but it's unlikely.

I believe Ameobi will come good as a target man but like Shearer he needs pace alongside him. Ameobi hasn't impressed recently but neither has Shearer, and noone doubts his ability. Both of them have suffered from a lack of service and both are natural target men. Ameobi doesn't work alongside Shearer because they're too alike but we shouldn't write him off.

I'm not sure about that evil. SBR came out saying that he thinks Cort may have a major impact this season, if he continues to work hard in training. Maybe he could be given a chance to prove his worth.

I think Cort looks more exciting than Ameobi, LuaLua, Chopra and has showed that he can score goals in the top flight with Wimbeldon.

However, he has suffered many injury setbacks which have hampered his chances of establishing himself as a first-team regular.

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-04-2003 00:07:

He might get a handful of games to justify his place but I can't see him getting more than that, espescially if Bellamy recovers and plays for the rest of the season. Don't forget he might not be the same player he was, he hasn't seen sustained top flight action for years, wheras Lua Lua is fit and ready.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-04-2003 08:00:

Trying to regain the form that you previously had before injuring yourself is always difficult for any player. But on most occasions, players do find that form which made them class. However, injuries have also limited some players from becoming world class players, to just staying average.

Hopefully Cort can keep working hard in training and make Bellamy's spot insecure.

emmmmm wrong Project T, i have to disagree

Quote Project T

It aint the defence, its the midfield.

Well the midfield are poo but i would also have to say the defence are poo aswell.

Get some of that.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-07-2003 02:16:

True that. The defence definitely needs to be looked at first, rather than the midfield.

Anyone know where I can find some newcastle chants on mp3? Not the shitty music ones, but live chants?

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-07-2003 13:42:

Newcastle's fans have been told to sit down otherwise our ticket allocation to away games will be terminated What the fuck is the game coming to in Britain? Our stadiums used to have class atmospheres, now you're not even allowed to stand, the managers have a 'technical area' that they're not allowed to leave and hardly any of the games are at 3pm any more. What a fucking disgrace.

Btw, the Welsh FA are planning to take legal action against Newcastle because of the Bellamy issue. This is a fucking joke, Bellamy misses 3 games for us, cries to Bobby that his knee injury could end his career, and then a few days later he plays a full 90 mins for Wales. What the fuck? And they're suing us because someone at Newcastle had a few bad words to say about it all - nice to see they're keeping a sense of perspective here At least Bellamy can't play against Finland now.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-09-2003 01:08:

Yeah, i got a feeling the Bellamy saga will roll on till the end of the season.

On a major downside, Given may be in doubt for the clash at Goodison. And with Harper already ruled out, we may have to hand reserve keeper Tony Caig his Premiership debut.

Like things weren't already bad at St.James'

On a brighter note it looks like Bobby is going to restore both Robert and Solano to the starting line-up, realising that it is imperative to have both wingers in the side to increase Shearer's chances of scoring.

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-09-2003 02:02:

Could our luck get any worse? Our keeper and our replacement keeper both injured at the same time.

Woodgate could be out for 6 weeks!

Tony Caig has only ever played one Premiership game which was apparently as a replacement half-time keeper for Charlton a couple of years ago.

Bellamy might not be fully fit for the Everton game and Dyer apparently had a hamstring problem before the England game. Jenas could be ruled out because of some dental problem.

Solano and Speed both have international commitments a few days before the Everton game (Solano playing on the otherside of the world), Viana might feature for Portugal as well.

The lads will have to play out of their skins to beat Everton this weekend. We are running out of quality matchfit players

All we can do is hope Given and the rest pull through otherwise we are in the shit!

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-09-2003 06:58:

Truly in the dumps

- Berated by injuries
- Lack of transfer funds
- Low on confidence
- Players in the team not doing the job.
- Officials failing to realise the reality of the clubs current state.

Its not looking too shabby, but im more than sure that our fortune will change very soon.

But how soon is soon? It could be all too late

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-11-2003 00:58:

Good news is that Given looks set to play on Saturday.

In the England v Portugal under-21 game yesterday Hugo Viana got an assist and Ameobi was named man of the match. Portugal scored the winner eleven minutes from time when Helder Postiga scored with a handball.

Dyer was on the bench against Liechtenstein but didn't play.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-11-2003 02:35:

I heard people at the U-21 game said that Ameobi showed what he can really do and the man of the match award will do him and his confidence a whole lot of good.

Dyer is still in the slumps and SBR has to realise that it is time to give Dyer a bit of bench time, until he can rekindle his confidence.

Everton will be more than a tough opponent for us and with Woody out i can't see OB and Bramble coping against speedsters Radzinski and Rooney.

However, Bellamy is back and it seems as though Robert has restored his relationship with Bobby, which could only mean a starting place on the left wing where he belongs. So he better be whippin in crosses all day.

Hopefully we will create solid chances this time, which has been lacking so far this term. I'm really confident that Shearer and Bellamy's partnership will be firing on all cylinders at Goodison

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-11-2003 12:57:

That's if Bellamy's fully fit. He looked fit enough to me in the Italy game. If he isn't I'd play Lua Lua.

I'm not sure what lineup I would choose, but it'd be a pick of this lot:

----------------------Given

Hughes--O'Brien--Bramble--Bernard

Solano--Viana/Bowyer--Speed/Jenas--Robert

-------------- Shearer--Bellamy/Lua Lua

If we need to defend a shaky lead we could sit Speed just in front of the back four. Otherwise, if he's tiring, bring on one of Jenas/Dyer/Bowyer (whoever's on the bench). What would yous play?

I hope Solano and Robert play on Saturday as I think we'll need the width. I hope Bobby plays either Bowyer or Viana in the centre. We need to really get at them early on because I get the feeling every time they get the ball in our half they are going to give our defence problems. It's imperative that we keep possession in midfield (something we've failed to do lately). Speed has been giving away a lot of possession lately and Bowyer's passing has been dodgy at times, Viana's precision passing could prove useful if we play him in the centre.

Alternatively, if we were to go with the diamond formation (which we won't), this one might be interesting:

--------------Speed
Solano-------------------Robert
--------------Viana

Dyer's final ball is very poor but Viana's final ball is brilliant. Viana might be just what we need to a) keep possession and b) unlock defences with that killer final ball to Shearer. At the moment Dyer is lacking severely in both skills.

Posted by Turner on Sep-13-2003 09:13:

I reckon 2-1 defeat. Shearer will score for newcastle.

Everton will score within 15 minutes and newcastle will score just before or just after half time and then everton will score between 70-75 minutes.

That's exactly what happened last year when the two teams met.

Evil, the diamond formation you suggested is what I'd like to see the team play with, but how often does Sir Bobby change the formation of any team. So a diamond would be unrealistic, which is a pity since I could see it working as a treat for the Toon.

Still unsure if we can rely on Hughes to produce the goods at right-back. He's just weak in all areas and I'd pick Griffin ahead of him due to his consistency.

-----------Given

Griffin--OB----Bramble--Bernard

Solano--Bowyer--Speed/Viana---Robert

--------Shearer--Bellamy

Good news, Woody has been included in the squad and SBR has even revealed that he might be 100% fit, which is a HUGE bonus if we are to win this game.

Posted by evil_bastard on Sep-13-2003 17:23:

2-2, three penalties, 8 yellow cards and 2 red cards. I haven't seen any of the game, just listened to it on the radio. Sounds like both sets of supporters feel they should have won, but after the incredible injustice at Goodison last year (easily the most injust game of the season) I couldn't give a fuck what the scousers think. I'm off to Liverpool on Wednesday to start Uni so no doubt I'll get enough of their bullshit then.

Same old predictable lineup this week, Robert/Speed/Dyer/Bowyer yet again. I know we don't like to play two wingers away from home but with them having a bunch of central midfielders I think we could have given Everton a shock on the flanks. Once Robert was off I was worried because our only width was Bellamy, a stand-in winger who would almost certainly drift forward into his favoured position. From what they said on the radio it sounds like we created enough chances but our defence was crap as usual. How much midfield cover they got I don't know. I'll wait and see the highlights on the Premiership tonight...

Btw, this thing with Woodgate sounds fishy. They're calling it a "stomach injury" yet there's talk of him getting a hernia operation keeping him out for up to six weeks. If he needs the treatment I'd rather he had it than risk him.

I'm pissed off at how we threw the game away on 88 mins with a penalty, but it was a tough away fixture against a bunch of cheating thugs, we could have come off worse. We've got Bolton at home next week, anything short of a win would be unacceptable.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-14-2003 05:44:

Some of the standards of the referee's this season have been really poor. Cards being shown uneccesarily, which really kills the spirit of the game. There has been no consistency from the referee's whatsoever

I think the same amount of cards were shown at the Southampton v Wolves game as well, with Newcastle's favourite Uriah Rennie heading that match.

quote:
this thing with Woodgate sounds fishy.

Yeh i want to know whats up with that as well. Firstly he needs an operation and will be sidelined up to 6 weeks. Then we are told that SBR says he is fit... I'm not sure whats going down with Woody. Prolly the club are trying to say that his "injury" was sustained at training, which in fact it was caused by fucking chick??

I'm troubled as to why SBR persists on playing the same midfield 4 again and again when it is obvious we need some kind of change. Supporters are beginning to sound like broken records when it comes to their views on what formation's should be deployed and who should be in the starting line-up.

quote:
I'm pissed off at how we threw the game away

Yeh I should be fuming as well, but not as angry as i should be quite suprisingly. And i think it has to do with the fact of seeing our team do the same thing week in week out. Loose our leads by doing stupid fucking things and Ive had enough in all fairness.

I read that SBR praised OB and Bramble after the Everton game. I just don't understand how someone can earn praise, when they allow the opposition to score. It's just not logical.

quote:

If we do loose against Bolton and m gonna fucking punch on with someone

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-20-2003 02:24:

The Newcastle vs Bolton game is today and I'm pumped since i can feel a goal-fest coming on !!

It's starting to look like SBR is considering what the fans are saying and he has decided to drop Bowyer and replace him with our no1 right winger in Solano. Surely a very good move since Bowyer has proven to struggle in that non-favoured position of his.

However it still remains a secret whether SBR will put Robert in the starting line0up after all that has been going on with him. I think SBR will decide to put all thoughts and feelings aside for today and put in the Frenchman, who has earned the highest amount of assists for the club in the last two seasons.

Woodgate is still a mystery, no one is really sure whether he is fit to play or indeed needs a hernia op.

The most likely formation/team for today would be:

---------------Given

Griffin--Bramble---OB/Woodgate----Bernard

Solano-----Dyer----Speed--------Robert

---------Shearer----Bellamy

The that Id like SBR to play today, but unlikely:

---------------Given

Griffin--Bramble---Woodgate---Bernard/Speed

Solano--Bowyer/Jenas--Viana/Speed--Robert

---------Shearer----Bellamy

Wish this game was televised so i could see the Maggies win 6-0

Posted by Turner on Sep-22-2003 18:40:

what a goal fest, once again another top quality performance. I say dont fucking pay the ****s until they start peforming.

Posted by czechstar00 on Sep-23-2003 07:13:

^^I would have to agree with you as well mate. Nothing but a bunch of money greedy pigs at the moment. Can't even break down a dodgy Bolton defence, which were Florent Laville. I really dont know where the team can go on from here, but SBR can't use Lady luck as an excuse forever. With Arsenal on friday, im certain will loose that and it is a scary thought thinking we will be winless going into October. I can see more and more impatient Newcastle fans joining the boo boys of Tyne and im sorry yo say but i am starting to slightly turn as i like everyone else is becoming increasingly frustrated.

We have Breda tomorrow and hopefully we can kickstart our season then. If we do loose, then there really has to be some changes. Whether it will be on the managerial side or the team, something has to give.

Posted by Turner on Sep-27-2003 10:02:

Well good result on wednesday some good goals.

But as for last night, Jenas u absolute nobba.

What was he playing at? he should have been marking Gilberto when he scred and as for the handball. Also bramble makes so many mistakes.
Apart from that newcastle played quite well. One thing we need to work on is passing, Arsenal were just passing and we were getting know where, but when we passed, they were all just short passes and were getting intercepted all of the time.

I say more time on the training ground and some wage deductions.

Woohoo Woodgate out for upto 8 weeks nice 1

oh, great a topic all about newcastle

that arsenal game was crackin, just a shame jenas was so stupid, could have come away with a well deserved point.

Newcastle V Southampton

I definitely feel a win coming on here. We performed admirably against Arsenal last week and it was a type of performance i'd like to see the boys play week in week out. Although we lost

---------Given

Hugues--Bramble--OB---Bernard

Dyer--Jenas---Speed---Robert

Shearer---Bellamy

I'd like to see the same team that took on Arsenal, except that Lee Bowyer has to be left out. I think SBR may bring back Solano into the side, but i have no idea who he will replace.

Bowyer has to go since he looks very poor at the moment and i think Speed and Jenas could form an excellent defensive partnership in the heart of our midfield.

I think everyone is in form coming into this weekend, but Bellamy is looking out of sorts just a little. He was awesome against Breda and then totally invisible up front against the Gunners, providing absolutely nothing in the game.

Inconsistency has been a big factor to the start of our season and our players are always susceptible to it.
