Lyrics

Can someone post the lyrics to Like A Friend , Spellbound, and/or That's Life?

After listening to the CD a few times, it's definitely grown on me. At this point I'd probably give at an 8/10. It's so completely different that I hesitate to rank it against PvD's other albums.

Thanks

It's an alright album, I don't like it too much. Crush, Nothing But You, and Time of Our Lives are they only ones worth listening to in my opinion, the rest aren't really my style...

Posted by umes23 on Nov-21-2003 00:04:

give it a few listens. there are some solid tracks there. i love thats life and spellbound is ace too. reflections is also a nice, chill tune... now these tracks all sound very pvd, yet they are all very different... so don't tell me his shit sounds the same. if anything, reflections is too different for most people's tastes.

I finally gave in and bought this album...after all the hype, it really dissapointed. Way too many vocal tracks...at best I give the album a 6/10.
Knowledge is the absolute worst piece of shit I have ever heard. PvD shouldn't attempt anything even remotley hip-hop, it just ends up sounding forced, lame, like he is trying to fit in and appeal to an audience that wont like it anyways...just...really...embarrasing. And it's not that I don't like hip-hop...I used to be a massive hip-hop fan. This song is just uber-ghey, with the "emcee's" hackneyed "uh-huh, yeah, word, yo" etc...
My 2 cents also: TOO MUCH JAN JOHNSTON...wtf was this about. Featuring her on one track is fine...but she is on 80% of the fucking album, she even did vocals on Nothing But You (now I finally know why the final version really sucks). I personaly don't think she is a very good vocalist to begin with, but this album really over-used her.

Okay, so I just listened to the entire album in one sitting for the first time through today. My general opinion: Not bad at all, but Paul can do better. Too many collaborations, too many vocals, but otherwise very good.

Crush (9/10)
Time Of Our Lives (7/10)
Like A Friend (6/10)
Reflections (9/10)
Nothing But You (10/10)
Buenaventura (8/10)
Home (6/10)
Never Forget (8/10)
Knowledge (5/10)
That's Life (7/10)
Connected (9/10)
Spellbound (8/10)
Kaleidoscope (8.5/10)

Paul needs more instrumental pieces such as Buenaventura, Never Forget, and Connected, because I feel that emotional melodic work is his strong point.

Crush has, in my opinion, deserved the attention it has received. The album version of Time Of Our Lives is merely good, as opposed to the PvD Club Mix. Like A Friend is a nice experiment, and at least Jan's voice is used more creatively here, but it still comes off a bit poorly, and out of place. Reflections could be a bit more streamlined, but is otherwise marvelous. Nothing But You is a fucking masterpiece. Buenaventura showcases Paul's more minimal, gradual musical talents, and would be flawless did it not sound like a work in progress rather than a final version. Home frankly comes off as cheesy to me, but isn't entirely bad. Never Forget sounds more polished than Buenaventura, and is a very nice, chilled melodic piece. Knowledge is listenable, but pretty much sucks. That's Life is a good production direction, but not as good as I think it could be. Connected is easily the second best track on the album behind Nothing But You; it's almost flawless melody, and what I expect out of Paul. Spellbound is like what Home tries to be, but actually works; only one track of this kind is needed on the album, and I think Home should have been ditched given Spellbound. It's shallow, mushy, and uplifting, but unashamed of it and fused with a quality vibe. Kaleidoscope makes a perfect close to the album in terms of tone and lyrics; Jan works here, but I think the vocals are superfluous. It could have worked as a melodic piece, or just with the dubby clips that are interspersed between the main vocal lines.

Hopefully Paul's next album will be a full-on collection of Paul's instrumental talents, which is what he's truly skilled at. A different bassline or two couldn't hurt, either.
