If you tell me you like all works by a specific artist I'll tell you that you either are lying or the artist hasn't produced enough. That goes for ALL art and ALL types of music. Not related to trance, but I like artists like the Beatles and even Sinatra (yes, i am NY wop), but there are plenty of songs that I think are sh!t. Doesnt mean I dont like the artist.

Will I ever play a Brittany Spears song while driving in my car? Hell no. When I heard there would be a G&D remix of one of her songs did I want to hear it? yes. and it was actually pretty good, for a brittany song. I heard it played out at a club and people loved it. Good for them.

People get pissed off because producers remix pop songs? I understand and appreciate that but what would you do? The biggest pop star in the world and you would turn that down? Come on. BS. You would all do the same. Arent they in this thing to make money? Yeah, they love the music and all but damn people, get real here. They actually took a Brittany song, made it sound pretty good and made some money on it. Dont forget the exposure.

I used to listen to a lot of alternative rock back in the 80s (Cure, Depeche Mode, etc, etc). Back then U2 was part of the alternative scene. After Joshua Tree I was like WTF??? Sell-outs. I was also 15. Look at how big they are now. Should they have walked away from the mainstream exposure just to appeal to a few idiots who resented them. Back then I may have said yes.

Now I realized what a Dumas I was.

How many producers have put out the quality work that G&D has? Why not throw as much creativity at the public and let the public sort out what they like and dont like?

I'd rather be able to form the opinion then to never hear something at all.

enough ranting from me. rip me all you want. just call it creative expression and i am cool with it.

great post, couldn't of said it better. As for myself, love as the rush comes and andain - beautiful things (G&D remix) great tracks. Not a huge fan of all the others but then again i haven't heard them all either. theirs alot of music out there.

As to over hyped. I dunno maybe on boards like this were everyone listens to the same style of music. You might see it alot. I think that's great allows us to hear and learn about artists who may be the next great artists. But i can assure you if I ran outside into the busy street and yell "Who thinks Gabriel & Dresden are overratted?" If anyone even decided to answer, most likely 95% of these ppl will have no cllue as to what im talking about. How can a music type that most ppl don't even know aobut truly be over hyped. I consider over hyped seeing posters of artists on my bus going to school. No one deserves that. Get nellys damn face of my bus.

I simply said to your stupid comment that some people liked them before they were popular. You know thats how people find out about artists, they fucking hear them so when you don't know things about someone STFU and don't make dumbass comments like that.

2 threads like this from the same person with little time in between, oh my!

I doubt anyone cares about my opinion, but for the sake of conversation, I will post it. G & D tried something new unique and different and it succeeded big time. In my opinion they deserve all the glory for it that we can give em. Like any mortals some things they've done have been better than others, but they have an amazing uniqueness that is insanely fun to listen to. Nobody right now deserves more hype then that duo . I dont blame ppl for playing the hell out of their stuff, i would do it to, and i'm not even close to getting sick of hearing it. And if it werent for these TA bandwagon jumping acts I wouldn't have the wonderful playlist that I got 2day. The one thing ihaven't taken a liking to is the small bunch of songs that are starting to imitate their sound. EDM is kinda a hybrid of lotsa other things, but without somethin new every once in a while things get stale, G&D refreshed the hell outta some trance, but I dont want all the songs to sound like them. I'm really looking forward to what happens next, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ok im done

Read my thoughts exactly. They have a style that is unique and while some don't enjoy it and consider tham overhyped I could care less, everyones entitled to their opinion and I for one think they have a lot of talent and will continue to play the shit out of their tracks and livesets from now until the end of time.

BTW teknoscape because I'm expecting a dumbass comment from you about me playing their songs always yes I will play them even when people have forgotten about them and they havn't had a song in years

I think (IMHO) that G&D is nice, they have some pretty nice remixes, but perhaps doing a little too much of them... or just my idea? Last year people were bashing tiesto for remixing every damn music that appeared, now... I dunno, perhaps a bit of holydays for both Gabriel & Dresden would be fine, I think...
... and they remixed Evanescence... why oh why G&D you should ever touch shitty stuff...

Then again, maybe I'm wrong Who'll throw the first rock @ me?

Posted by dj2kTA on Nov-25-2003 00:53:

I like their productions more than their remixes. They are definitely losing the impact they first had on me with their stuff, but I still think they're doing ok. I dont like some of their more recent remixes very much though.

Posted by DSmalls on Nov-25-2003 02:41:

Alright, I'm a big fan of G&D, both as producers and DJs... they got my #1 vote in DJ Mag, as they had a hell of a year. I do think they need to slow down with the productions a little bit though, because, as that picture inferred, I'm fearing they're becomming somewhat just formulized. I think they need to really feel what they want to do with tracks before they just put their sound on it. Nevertheless, I know there is plenty of quality production from them to come. As far as their mixing, I think it's excellent. I think, especially live, that sometimes they need to get from track to track faster and not allow for as much regression and progression. Not always though, I think it makes the sets smooth as hell... but some people consider it boring. For instance, when I saw them in Miami people couldn't handle hearing tracks nearly finish out and then have to wait for the next one to build from near scratch. Point is, they need a little more variation in the mixing style. I love all the acapella stuff they do (listen to GDJBs)... sadly I heard none if it when I saw them live. This is a hell of an element to their sets, they should expand on this. Back to my previous point, if they're gonna draw out the mixes, throw some acapella shit over it so those that get bored maybe won't. Anyways, hope I haven't rambled, as this is my first post...

Point is... I love what they've done so far, they've brought a new edge to music... I'm looking for them, along with Markus to cause a paradigm shift in EDM.

Peace,
Dave

ok .. like it or not ... they have gone through the checklist and did what a very good dj has done :

-start their dj career strong
-strong remixes from non-popular songs
-talked about everywhere
-booked at all the popular clubs
-has created their own popular craze
-strong remixes from popular songs, and made them better
-has done essential mixes
-has done their own production works

it is hard for duo djs to make a name for themselves. it takes a lot of effort, and i commend them for their job.

now, what would you say when they make their own self-titled album ??

Posted by itsTrueSonic on Nov-25-2003 03:34:

how would u rank them with probably the best current duo djs in the world right now (DEEP DISH) when they first entered the scene ... were their mixes as much quality as G&D's ?? or Gouryella's? or Jam & Spoon's ? Oakenfold and ?? Kamaya Painters ? Svenson and Gielen ??

Posted by umes23 on Nov-25-2003 09:04:

Thumbs up

g&d have definitely shown that they have the talent to produce quality tracks. are they overhyped? yes. i think because dave is on board, there is too much discussion of g&d, leading to too many people praising them all the time, which then leads to threads like this that want to bash them, to try and cancel out the overhyping.
personally, i think these guys have the capacity to produce excellent music... we'll see where they take us. i think they were good because they made good music differently. i think the 'different' aspect must remain in order for them to stay as interesting. the real question is to stick around and see how they innovate music and sound.

dave, you have a good attitude... no hate from me. keep up the good work.

if you were older than 10 youd probably understand that i meant in general, not g&d specific. but i guess thats how it is when you cant even buy a beer at the local pub.

Posted by smallSHEEP on Nov-25-2003 13:57:

I like 2 of their remixes which is more than many other producers!

Oh please, if all these people hate G&D then why would they want the attention of an artist they don't like

Posted by Cmdr_Keen on Nov-25-2003 17:39:

They're pretty good IMHO. But they're also a hype. Now everybody loves them. At least a lot of people do...

Posted by CGRumler on Nov-25-2003 17:39:

Can't we just like who we like and shut the fuck up about it? I'm so sick of these bashing threads....

Posted by Cmdr_Keen on Nov-25-2003 17:47:

Because there's a difference between liking someone because of what they do and liking someone because you are affraid of not looking 'cool'

gabriel and dresden rock my world

And that's the problem: Who cares about looking cool on a FORUM SITE?! Yeesh, just listen to who you like and NOT listen to who you don't like. It's a simple formula. Taking it beyond that is pointless and foolish.

It's so fun to look cool on the internet

NO! my point was that because dave is on ta, it has an effect on people that like their music, meaning a lot of hype. i think as a reaction, people get tired of reading the these people are gods all the time just because they made some good music, and this REACTION (myself excluded) yields negativity that creates threads like this.

whatever the case, they are good, and hopefully can stay good.... there is just too dramatized talk. good turns to gods and decent turns to shit.... and then people are stating overemphazised/exagerrated opinions. the end result, typical flaming.

u dont have to agree...but u can at least understand what im saying?

Posted by trancEyes22 on Nov-25-2003 18:47:

then again, people who make threads about how overrated they are and such are just adding to their hype...

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you on that. But that's not how it works. Some people do care about that...
