well execuse me guys while i dismiss this thread. I don't think smitty can support his arguments too strongly. Weak arguments deserve to be ignored.
i suggest u go do some reseach, write a 3 000 word essay about why smoking shouldn't be banned from public places. Use APA style manual to quote ur txt and make sure u quote every 2 to 3 sentences. I would love to read that. If i am convinced, i'll start a petition and make sure i get so many autographs. Then i will personally write an essay about it and send all the material to the government and ask them to review it.

I was responding to the argument that smoking is a "health risk"....anyway, as I said, I'm a considerate smoker...I have maybe 7 a day and 1 or 2 in the club and usually go to the sky bar to do that when I'm at the Guv. I never blow smoke in anyone's face and if they have a problem with me smoking in their house, I go outside, etc. etc. But it pisses me off that people throw so much guilt on smokers, when there are so many other causes of cancer and unhealthy lifestyles. |

If people wanna polute the air, they can do it outside, not in your face! |

Sorry if I don't spend 3 hours of my day trying to find the news link, but I have seen many reports on The National, as well as other programs, that have documented the slow decline of smoking (50 years ago, almost 75% of people smoked), and the rise in obesity. |

| Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 shortened life eh? All four of my grandparents are well into their eighties, as were their parents when they died. And...yep, here it comes...HALF OF THEM SMOKED! That's right...many people smoke all their life and never die from it. I'll probably smoke all my life and live to 85, while you'll die at 55 from a brain tumour from all those chemical drugs you take. |

I drive once in a blue moon, and I"m not saying I agree with all the exhaus emissions either, but you're just changing the subject, this topic has little to do with environmental pollution, rather human, annoyance with arsenic being blown into my face!

Smitty,
On a serious note, you showed nothing but disrespect to anyone that does not agree with you. Calling people who don't want their lungs damaged whiners? How old are you? In life people disagree all the time, but you just jump into things, disagreeing and calling people names, I ignored your nonsense for a while. How do you get along with anyone? Common these are just people's opinions, you can smoke all you want, no one is gonna stop you ... just not around people who don't want to be hurt, and that makes you a selfish person. I hope you grow up/change and get along more with everyone.
Peace
P.S. I hate to see you insult people that are very intelligent, smart, and extremely nice that I know in person.
^^^^ I'm sorry, but a lot of the people who posted in this thread are whiners...bitching about coming home stinking and bla bla bla...it tries my patience to read and hear this type of complaining. The non-smokers are getting their way in the end anyway...but I'm defending a habit that I have...a bad habit yes, but everyone on here has bad habits. Too much blame is put upon smokers for some of the ills of this world, when there are other things that deserve attention.
I seem to recall a post about drugs and when I said that I don't do them because I dont "want to get hurt", people jumped on me and said I knew nothing, I was an idiot, bla bla bla. It kills me that Skipper condemns smoking, but defends drug usage.
But whatever...trying to argue with you people is like talking to a bunch of canaries...

Then again if it wasn't for smoking, there wouldn't be gold club events or red light parties and places like ottawa wouldn't get the big djs at all, its ironic that the girls sit there and sell smokes but no one can smoke in the clubs here!

| Originally posted by Skipper HOLY SHIT, ARE YOU REALLY THIS STUPID? I don't care that people smoke...I don't care that people do drugs...it's all personal choice. However, when your decisions to use substances start affecting me, I speak up. YOUR choice shouldn't affect MY HEALTH every time I want to go clubbing, or go out to eat, or go for a drink in a pub. The girl who shoots up in the stall next to me at Guvernment doesn't affect my health. But her cigarette does. Why shouldn't I care about that?? Multiply that by hundreds of people in poorly ventilated areas for extended lengths of time on a frequent basis and you've got quite a situation. How the fuck do you not see a difference? (Smoking will kill you WAY before hard drugs will, btw. Peter Mansbridge told me so.) |
I smoke quite a bit at clubs but I welcome this bylaw. If I can't make myself quit maybe the law can. It's so hard to resist the temptation to light up a smoke when you see your friends puffing away on their cigarettes. Now if it were banned by law and no-one was smoking it would be hard the first couple of time but I'll definitely get used to not smoking inside a club and so will all the other smokers. I see this as a very good thing.

London is doing it quite well right now actually...Toronto should look to it for a good example when the law comes into effect. |
