Actually, i think that rave is a genre. Me and my fellow nationals call this thing we hear from our neighbours (Spain) the "spanish rave". I think the spanish people call it Rave too.
It is actually electronic music difficult to classify, because it has many eurodance elements, but it a happy hardcore bassline and a few more acid sounds. It is very much like Nick Skitz, but with spanish samples and a much more faster and harder beat. It is one of the worst things i've listened.

I don't know how big is it in Spain 'cause i've never been to a spanish rave party, but just that you know, house is usually considered the biggest scene in the iberian peninsula, with a truckload of labels based in Spain and a truckload of dj's here in Portugal. However, i've never seen a house party in the TV, but i see spanish rave parties all the time, with lots of people dancing and usually a dj with a good technique playing.

If you want to know more, listen to 666 - Alarma, it's easy to find on soulseek...

I consider a few Benassi tunez to be pretty good (mainly his remixes but 2 songs off his EP are good) like his remix of Sonique's Alive and Outkast's Ghetto Muzik.

Anyways some guy was stupid enough to call trance music made by computers . He also listed Nine Inch Nails as one of his favourite bands, can you say ignorance .

So? Isn't trance made by computers? That's why they call it electronic music.

Arrow

When people ask, I just say its like Dance music. Not that this is true, but to the average nontrancer when you start to explain it, they get ALL confused. And to save a long and tiring conversation, this method sadly works the best.

Ah yes but most people think making EDM is a 15 minute work in dance eJay or something like that (anyone remember this wsoftware ). I like how those who listen to hip hop loosetheir minds when i point out that there was a hip hop eJay also, andits interesting to hear that wahts made in there isnt real hip hop

My point was that all music is to a certain point and that people assume that you can hit a "generate EDM song" button and thats it.

In my computer design class I am always listening to my ipod. This guy beside me asks "what kind of music do you listen to??", so I told him I listen to edm. The next day he asked me specifically what type, and I told him I listen to trance. He was like "me too. I am so into trance, it's the only thing I listen to. !!". I can spot a fake trance-head wannabe from a mile away. I asked him what his favourite DJ or producer was, and he said scooter. Then I asked him what recent tracks he had listened to, and he said Tiesto-sparkles.

People like this guy make me angry !! I hate fake trance-head wannabes. They really bother me. Am I alone on this one???

Most that have been released since 1998 or so.

Well, I think that depends. Not all of those people are fake trance-head wannabes. Some people are just very new to the scene or have very limited exposure to it. The limit of this guys experiences may be Scooter or Tiesto - Sparkles. I know when I first got into EDM I had a very limited exposure to the music and therefore had very limited tastes; I would say even now, after essentially being a fan of the music for 4 years, I STILL have very limited exposure but my tastes continue to develop and change. With that being said, I'm always very thankful for those people who have shown interest in my interest and introduced me to new producers/tracks/genres.

hmm....certainly not. I know this dumbfuck who once came upto me and tells me he listens to trance. I said 'well, what do you listen to..any favourite producers/dj's of late?' . He goes ' yeah, surrree..man, you should listen to Asian Dub Foundation..they are so fucken good' .......%@#$@#!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Asian Dub Foundation?!!!!! Hrm, ah well..the point is yes, there is no shortage of idiots/wannabes who pretend to be tranceaddicts but I can tell who is a wannabe and who actually has a genuine interest and has not been listening to trance for very long.

Indeed. Rave is a genre. In musical terms, rave is just a harder, faster form of trance. Japanese rave, happy hardcore are some forms of rave.
Psy trance is also known as goa rave .
But essentially rave is still an offshoot of trance.

Nick Skitz???

I can't stand the type of music that Nick Skitz plays....he is like a Judge Jules of Australian DJs.

I suppose you have heard a lot of Sublime CDs and stuff like that then....

Where did you hear it in Portugal??

I have the same problem too.

I have like many of my friends who are "into" trance.

They go like.. "damn that ATB-9 o clock till i come tune is off the hook."

And I dont know how to react. I mean.. yeah.. they're listening to EDM..(or should i say cheese) thats nice. They ask me whether I liked that tune and I said no. Then they ask me why I dont like that tune and I say its just cheesy. But when they ask me for recommendations, I tell them what I know and they just go blank.

Some of them arent really into trance. They just go to clubs and like 1 song.. and say "HEY I LOVE TRANCE"

I have some friends like that too! They also love lasgo, DJ Encore, stuff like that. If I come across some cheese, I send it thier way. I filled them in on the fact that they like cheese, and they were fine with it. lol.

Good point Ygrene. I can understand if he was a newbie, but it was his attitude. He was acting like he was a freaking trance genius. If he had of said "I like trance, I listen to it alot. But I am still new the the music" I would have made him some CD's, and introduced him to TA. I think he just wanted me to think he was cool, he is so like that !

I often get rather annoyed with people who lump jungle, trance, house and techno all under the Techno name, then put downtempo, ambient and experimental all into ambient. Personally, being into all of them except house (it's disco except not...), I am often confused by the generalizations. I especially hate it when people say, "d00d, listen to my l33t new techno musik!!!!!!!111!!! OMFGIRS!!!" Then it turns out to be some sort of abrasive Jungle.

I actually have a friend who does the whole everything-is-techno thing, and he's more into trance than I am. Of course, he listens to it all as indiscriminantly as he refers to it, so I suppose it's okay.
