Dudes, you all gotta chill out. seriously if your parents saw you guys fighting on here they'd be pissed, and you'd have to stay home that night and see no one.

There's gonna be 2 DJ's, 2 different styles, 2 rooms.

pick one and stay in it, or if you can apprectiate something more than PROG, or TRANCE. go visit the other room

i'm getting a wristband and i'll be between both rooms all night... plus think of it this way, 2 rooms = 2 times as many girls. duh.

who really cares anyways?? i mean most of us have already seen ferry AND john digweed before.

TOTA likes to bitch because bitching is fun and fighting on the internet is the solution to all of life's problems

Just b/c he makes a living as a DJ doesn't mean he has fantastic mixing talent, it's b/c of his productions that he is famous. so you really think that all the big name DJ's are teh bets at mixing? if so, you don't know how things work. There are DJ's who rarely fuck up their mixes (PVD, Howells, Digweed)- do you think that ferry is in their league for mixing abilities? if you do, then you need to learn a littel more about the technical aspect of the music you claim to love.

k, thx, bye.

Paul Oakenfold is a prime example of this.... sucks live and cant mix worth shit (he's even admitted to this). However, his studio and production work is far and away the best in the world, and thats why he's so successful.

What would be the better event to attend.
Ferry Corsten @ GUV or John Digweed @ Koolhaus??????

Any suggestions?

Digweed's probably my favorite Dj and I personally hate Corsten, but regardless, let me give you the answer you are looking for....

If your a relative newby to the scene and you like trance music, then you will have a much better time listening to Corsten in the Guv. He'll probably play a lot of tracks that you like and recognize and can get into.

I find with Digweed's sound, it takes a certain amount of evolution in your musical tastes to understand why he's so amazing. I know alot of people that when they first heard him, they thought he sucked (me included). Then as my tastes evolved and my appreciation for the music increased, I started to realize why he's so amazing and in my opinion the best dj in the world.

And for all those people who label Digweed as a progressive dj, please stop.... Digweed is Digweed!! You can't classify his sound under any single category. His style is unique to himself just like Carl Cox. Alot of his track selections tend to lean towards progressive, but I've heard him spin house, trance, a little bit of techno and even some break beats in the past. One night he'll play a progressive set, and the very next night he'll play uplifting trance.

Props the person who mentioned Digweed's contributions to trance in this thread.

^^^^^

me too. I used to be a prog-hater like many in this thread. Prog is an aquired taste for sure, (altho it's not for everyone- many experienced EDM fans never start to like prog). I know very few ppl new to the scene who can get into it (unless it's some sort of hybrid form- like how dezoke plays it w/ harder techier stuff for example)

Posted by nadezhda on Feb-17-2004 21:11:

digweed.

that is all.

added bonus: it is not in the guv, therefore hopefully less squishy and not uber hot.

Posted by Flec on Feb-17-2004 21:35:

prog is an aquired taste, and i have learned to love it over time however its pretty obvious i bash it all the time. i dont bash it becuase i dislike it, i bash it because like someone already stated in the thread "people who like prog feel they are superior"

i feel the need to put them in their place.

prog is good yes, but what exactly makes it so superior to trance?
- nothing, its an illusion progwhores give to make them feel better

cheese trance vs boring prog

why is it bad to be cheesey? why is it bad to spin tracks youve heard before?

last question, are you guys/girls at the club to party? or do u just sit there and critisize the dj.

i bet your all gonna answer "oh of course im there to party!" , keep telling urself that, because if you call trance to cheesey for you then thats obviously not the case

Posted by Kytracid on Feb-17-2004 22:03:

From what i've read, no one who likes prog in this thread has said they were superior to the trance heads. If anything, most of us 'progwhores' will attest to the fact that we have all loved/still do love trance. Reading your post, i get the feeling you feel victimized by 'us' and i don't think that is the case in all circles.

While there may be some who feel Prog is better then Trance and those who listen to Prog are 'superior' to those who listen to trance, i think the truth is, that for most of us proglovers, it's been a journey from loving trance, to looking for something else, which while not having the same frenetic tempo, still manages to captivate. It might be difficult to grasp for someone who loves an epic track that takes the crowd by storm like "3rd Earth" why someone would go to a club and listen to a mellow work like "Dust" but for some of us, the impact of a track at 130bmp is just as powerfull as one of the anthems at 140bmp.

There will always be people who feel they listen to the better form of music -- and try to convice you that everything else blows. This dogged argument can be heard not only within the different genre's of EDM, but from other types of music as well. How many people know someone who loves "Hip Hop" and claims all "Techno sucks" ( <--- btw, why do they all refer to it as techno !!! n00bs ) anyway...as long as your confident you have good taste, and you're feeling the beat, why should it matter what someone says about your music of choice ?

Unless you have an 'inferiority complex' or find everyone else around you is easily influenced i can't guess why it would bother you so much. People will always have differing views, but ultimately you shouldn't feel threatened by them. Voicing your opinions to reinforce your own feelings is one thing, do so to put someone in their place is another. The latter I find is counter productive, and in reality doesn't really work.

I love Trance - always will. It was my first love, but i find i have a few more mistresses on the side now...prog,breaks,house,tribal.

I wish everyone else the same kinda of luck finding that elusive beat !

Posted by Endlesswave on Feb-17-2004 22:10:

Ditto Kytracid. I love it all, any kind of EDM with the exception of gabber/hardcore but that's just not for me. If I can get a wristband for that night, I will. If not, I will most likely check out Ferry.

Posted by Flec on Feb-17-2004 22:12:

i dont feel threatened, i feel embarrased

Fohn Digsten?

Smiley DJ Trance vs. Prog

I like trance parties better because they have more energy, ppl bouncing off the walls when the dj lays out a sick drop...... With Boring Prog it all sounds the same so the buildups and breakdowns are increadibly lame..... (p.s i realize most trance drops are cheezy but it gets the party moving and puts a smile on this tranceaddicts face)

Love live trance

you and i were separated at birth- that is exactly what i was thinking (only put eloquently)

I for one, try never to be elitist about my taste. I do think that prog is an aquired taste, but not everyone aquires it. There are ppl on here who's music taste/knowledge I greatly respect who don't and never will be prog fans. Prog is less accessable, but that doesn't negate that trance has value. I think most of the prog ppl on here have stated as much-- if it wasn't for trance there wouldn't be prog.

however, I will still contend that ferry is a mediocre trance DJ (unlike PVD for example who is IMO a brillant trance dj) and that John Digweed is a brilliant prog DJ. If you liked both prog and trance equally I think it would be best to see Digweed, b/c of his skill.

Just b/c I like trance, doesn't mean I have to like every trance DJ, I sure don't like every prog DJ. A bad trance DJ or a bad prog Dj will bore me no matter what.

I respect ppl's opinions if they show openmindedness and respect for the opinions of others.
