^^^

Ahhhhhhhhhh the pimp... i mean the legend himself

That's some fine barbie doll he has now, i prefer Marcella though.

I just remembered that bloke huging the barbie doll in the pic, got his records signed, and some fool hit his hand and all his signed records dropped onto the ground lol, hope none broke.

gumble, again it's called un-biasim.

she would definatley be worth a slamin for one night!

Posted by Mangler on Feb-23-2004 01:27:

I havent joined the pimpsters yet, so i'm keeping them all to myself for now... hmmm, may bring some to Huey in Perth??

... as far as agreeing with gumble, it was purely accidental

Those photo's remind me of the late 90's when everyone used to look like that (haha, hevent seen too many people wear sunnies inside a club for a while) & there was glamourpuss everywhere... Darey is stuck in an Ibiza timewarp... however, he's making the cash, snatchin the gash... & gives us a role model for the pimpster game ... so more power to him
Try getting him to move to Sydney & he may help the trance scene come to the fore!

It's such a weird thing. As Bubble Boi pointed out before the gay scene has no problems at all pulling a couple of 1000 people every month to Trance events. Ruby and Toybox are perfect examples. They sell out pretty much every time. Not just this their tickets are expensive. I believe Ruby was around $100 a ticket when the Space Brothers were playing (Bubble correct me if i'm wrong). I guess this is because of the large disposable income of the gay scene.

The straight scene is another story. People only seem to spend big bucks to go and see major internationals. The straight scene seems to be more of a big event type scene. Either that or head off to regular well known brands i.e. Sublime, Plastic, Progress, Sounds On Sunday e.t.c. Unfortunately their is no big well known regular brand for Trance. Perhaps if their was more people would be aware of Trance and realise they prefer it to the other styles.

Anyway building up a reputation and a regular night that the wider public know of will take alot of time and unfortunately a shite load of hard work.

It's true, i was at my local club/bar up the road from my house last week. they used to play trance/dance now its completly rnb, and there is definatly more chicks there!! all the local chicks go there now.. rnb is what killed trance!! even when i hear peoples music in cars, its rnb!! because as soon as the try hard people of sydney heard the try hard rappers from america singing about whatever, they were attracted to this, they all want to be as cool and tuff as fifty cent for example, and the wog chicks these days love it!! (no offence to wogs, i am one!)

my two cents,

i agree with what others have said that you need to atract new people to the seen & also get those people who will go to the big events but but not to a 'normal' night to come to a normal night

when you say a trance night most people will think of sublime and if they have been there in the past and not liked it they will most likely not go to another trance night even though the music is totaly different

i dont know how raido works but it seems that they play a select few trance songs and people love them but they never seem to add more songs to their play lists...

Posted by First Strike on Feb-26-2004 02:14:

also the djs , clubs , producers dont have a high profile like i read something on trance.nu about ferry corsten and how his big tracks have been in the UK top 40, so in the UK most people would know of ferry but here ask some one & most people they will have never heard of him

so if you have him or any other big dj it wont bring that many new people to the event because they dont know who he is, but have him play a MOS event and you have a full house...

Ferry has been getting CAINED with Rocky your Body Rock, but that's an acception to the rule.

yea it is geting quite alot of play, i think the vocal is catchy so its got what radio needs/wants

the only non vocal track i have ever heard on 'normal' radio is Adagio For Strings on nova anf i have heard it a few times so why dont thay play other tracks similar??? eg Carte Blanche

Posted by Chookie on Feb-26-2004 07:56:

It did actually take me a while to find trance. I used to go to Home Gas etc, and it wasn't until I heard a DJ play at a house party til I knew that the music I loved was called trance. Before that I thought trance was like psytrance.

I always liked Gatecrasher compilations and when I went to the GCSSS I heard some very awesome trance being played but I still didn't know where else to hear it.

Posted by SampleGee on Feb-26-2004 12:10:

I think one of the main problems in getting proper trance (ie uplifting/melodic) away in Sydney is that every promoter here advertises their night as Trance and Hard Dance...Progress, Sublime etc advertise trance, but play nothing of the sort unless it's german hard trance.

They are both two very different sounds. One driving, aggressive..the other floaty, softer and more emotive. I love uplifting stuff, but can't stand the hard shit.

I think trance fans get put off by the big nights in Sydney.

To me...it's just not trance at all.

There are some great ideas amongst this post and some even greater intentions. There are only a small crew of us here in Syd passionate about the scene to the point of wanting to make a difference.

Perhaps we all need to unite together to promote a bigger night here...I spend 80% of my weekends either interstate or in NZ. Would sure be nice to have a gig or two on the back doorstep.

Posted by SampleGee on Feb-26-2004 12:13:

as for Sublime, is it just me or does everyone look bored shitless, head to the ground.

The best atmos I have seen in there has been for PVD and AVB.In fact after AVB, everyone just went home.

If only the promoters could see past the "old guard" and let some uplifting trance into that main room at Home...the bloody roof might come off.

I've submitted many CD's, all the time being told my music is too soft...then they put AVB in there. Looks like they only care about the music when an international is in town

Sample, you've got a fairly big name in the scene (ITM #5 ), you'd have some decent contacts from your work. If anyone in Sydney's going to be able to get something going, it'd be you. I doubt it's a possibility for you to run your own night (due to time constraints and your DJ schedule), but is there anything more you can do to help those in each state (IE brand them under your name or something)...I'm not sure if you have the "pull", you're 1 of 2 DJ's in Sydney that are playing regular inter-state gigs, that should count for something?
