Howl's Moving Castle is in Cinemas... farkk, can't wait to see this piece!

Studio Ghibli goodness

Also saw the 40 Year Old Virgin and European Gigalow.. both fuckin hilarious but i think 40 year old virgin takes Comedy of the year by far!!!

Damn can't believe Ong Bak came out recently, friend had it less than 1-2 years ago on DVD from Thailand, but haha, it seemed like the subtitles were written by a person that could not speak English, was very bad.

btw the guy was in Sydneys Darling Harbour about 5 months back.

But no Martial Arts movie could EVER top Drunken Master 2!

Posted by eRRaTiK on Oct-10-2005 01:30:

ong bak = overrated, imo.

A couple of trailers worth checking out...

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Aeon Flux

more here.

def looking fwd to aeon flux. loved the cartoon.

harry can (of course) chew my balls the sooner she finishes those insults to our intelligence the sooner the harry phenomena can die its much deserved death, and sink into historical obscurity, just like nazism.

ahhh, Crouching Tiger was good but it was too fake. Drunken Master 2 is just brutal fighting and thats what i love about it. Ong Bak had more brutal fighting but the story sucked.

Whats a fighting movie without the emotion.

And i have seen tons and tons of action fighting movies, and still Drunken Master 2 remains the best, it's sheer brilliance.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Oct-11-2005 00:24:

crouching tiger.. meh
hero.. phw0ar
house of flying daggers.. more meh

but if a boxed set comes out of those three movies I'd buy it.

bloodsport FTW!

Watched Human Traffic yesterday. It's ok I guess but I didn't find it to have quite the same impact as Trainspotting and Requiem For a Dream. Maybe because I can actually sympathise with the the events and characters in Human Traffic more, but I would have thought that would make me like the movie more but it didn't.

thats like comparing star wars & aliens. of course it didnt have the same impact. HT is a fun comedy. those others are just downright gritty & real. plus, HT had star wars references. whats not to like??

Posted by eRRaTiK on Oct-11-2005 00:46:

i though trainspotting was VERY funny!

LOL @ the stoned fools talking star wars.

John Holmes movie marathon:

Wonderland - his connections to the Wonderland Ave murders
Johnny Wadd - more like a doco

From memory 'Wonderland' received pox reviews when it was a released a while back. Would not have enjoyed being his sinuses with the amount of coke he was moving through those airways !

On the lighter side 'Animal House' with John Belushi was just as fun-E as the first time I watched it many moons ago

As a certified movie buff (i own over 250 dvds, and no, i'm not fat), i can recommend the following for anyone looking to watch a great film... notice i didnt list any comedies, the reason being that i only feel like watching comedies at certain times, these movies are good all the time.

1. Goodfellas * a must see *
2. The Usual Suspects * a must see *
3. Casino
4. A Bronx Tale
5. Donnie Brasco
6. The Last Samurai
7. Braveheart
8. Blow
9. Pirates of the Caribbean
10. The Rock

enjoy

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Oct-11-2005 23:05:

hahaha. so, you own over 250 DVDs, yet you still list the rock in your top 10? fvck you must have an ordinary collection. not that the rock is particularly bad or anything, but top 10 out of 250? lmao.

Posted by Aesthetic on Oct-11-2005 23:07:

that's a great flick. i'd rate it pretty high myself. sorry that your favourite (barbie and the flying pegasus) wasn't part of his top 10.

Posted by PaulCky411 on Oct-12-2005 06:19:

i listed the rock cuz i couldnt think of anything at the time, but i definitely dont regret it, it's still an awesome movie... i have so many others as well, i also didnt mean those as in top 10 either, just 10 random ones that i could think of that are very good... taxi driver, cape fear, godfather, scarface, fight club, lord of the rings (all 3), snatch, se7en, every season of the sopranos... there's so many others as well, just cant list my whole collection here, it'd take hours, these are just a few that i would recommend to anyone who's semi-bored and looking for a good flick to watch, haha

cant wait for Wolf Creek apparently it done really well at the recent Sundance Festival

quote:
"What sets Wolf Creek apart from other thrillers is its craftsmanship," the Sundance website said about the film.

"Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, McLean meticulously fashions three dimensional characters, utilising exceptional performances and an intelligently structured script."

McLean said the film was inspired by the stories of backpacker murderer Ivan Milat and the abduction of English tourist Peter Falconio in the Northern Territory bush.

it might make the poms think twice before coming here

*sighs*

DOOM

its not coz im a traditonalist and grew up on IDs games that i was so disappointed in this flick. it really just is genuinely that bad (tho begic might like it)

its biggest problem was that it was just BORING. barely anything happened for the first half of the movie. the beasties were hidden in the dark so we couldnt even see them. LAME.

the dialogue was pretty atrocious, and the story-line non-existant (they changed it from being hell to some bio-engineered bollocks too).
the rock was a disappointment for me; very little charisma imo.

the only thing that saved this movie from being utter garbage was the first-person bit right at the end, but even that was too short. nice touch of paying homage to the title though.

1 BFG out of 5

still, its better than aliens versus predator

has anyone seen the exorcism of emily rose? i have heard good reviews and it looks okay

oh noes

i got excited when i saw the first person bit in the preview. apparantly john carmack was dissapointed they got rid of the hell theme and had people with him to organise a speedy exit from media if it sucked too bad when he saw it hehe. i guess you would always be a bit sceptical with something like this, when was the last video game based movie that was good? i think the director said in an interview they were only loosely basing it on events in the games, it was more a "continuation of the basic story" or something like that. im still gonna see it anyway, cause its doom, and its got the rock
