I have thought about that question carefully. I'm not obesessed with my weight because I have no working scale in my house, so it is kinda hard to check often. I just check when I see my doctor. I'm very careful with what I eat (not to the point where I think I should avoid this like the plague). I watch calories as much as possible and keep it in a range. I am very strict with getting exercise because I rather not end up like I was two years ago. I'm not concerned with personal image, I just rather avoid the mistakes of my past, where I just ate and ate and ate and did nothing, it could have led to much worse.

If you live in a place where there is a big Beach culture (eg Australia, Brazil, Florida etc), then obviously you are going to walk around without your shirt on a lot of the time, and girls DO notice guys that have six packs......

Posted by torontotrance on Apr-12-2004 01:50:

do ppl watch closely the beach they walk on in australia...not to walk on jellyfish?

Posted by A.J. on Apr-12-2004 01:57:

hehehehehe not really

We only get the nasty jellyfish in the tropics, up north in Queensland (Great Barrier Reef etc) and the Northern Territory.

It is actually so dangerous in Northern Australia in summer that they close the beaches and you can't go swimming because of all the nasties in the water.

We have these things called "blue bottles" though, that are found all around Australia. The bastards are about as big as a grape, with long blue stingers trailing off them, and they swim around in the water, and if they touch you, they hurt like hell. Sometimes, the stingers rap around your arm and you have to physically pull them off with your hand. Ouch!

They also wash up on beaches sometimes after storms, so you have to be careful not to step on them. I have only been stung once when i was a little kid....they aren't really dangerous, they just hurt like hell. They aren't very common though....you would only see them a few days out of the whole summer.

Now don't get me started on sharks......and snakes.....and spiders......

Nah just wondering because I've heard of guys just staring at women and stepping on jellyfish and nearly dying. I could go on about the taipans if I wanted, nasty little bastards or the box jellyfish but I won't.

Posted by A.J. on Apr-12-2004 02:17:

Sounds like something you heard from a "friend of a friend".

Posted by torontotrance on Apr-12-2004 02:23:

animal planet

saw some aussie snake chaser shitting his pants holding a coastal taipan. Saw another person barely survive stepping on a box jellyfish.

Interesting! We have similar problems here in FL. The jellyfish and the sharks are obviously because we are both near the water, but we also have problems with snakes and spiders. Toss in stingrays, insects, and alligators and you've got FL!

I have a friend (he's not from here in the states) that visited Australia last month for about two weeks and he said he absolutely loved it there. He said the people were so friendly and everyone made him feel welcomed almost immediately. He talks about moving there now. Every person that I have met that is from there has been extremely nice and anyone that I have known that has visited says the same thing.

Here is a conversation I had with someone at the gym recently. I noticed they were doing a particular exercise incorrectly so I said "this is how I do it and it felt really good when I tried it this way"

they said "Im not trying to get big or defined or anything i just want to feel good"

10 minutes later after the pump has set in

same person, flexing in mirror..

"I wish I was this big all the time"

Yes we all do it to feel better. We do it to feel more confident, self assured, and in charge of our lives. We want to get better, faster, stronger (6 million dollar man). Working out is one of the few things in life where we can SEE the changes happening. We are making a difference!

TTA I know we've had disagreements in the past hehe...ahh yes, the disagreements. But, im a fan of exercise, and I think thats fucking awesome you did what you did. But...of course...I do disagree with you.

You are NOT the same person you were 2 years ago. You have changed from a person who didnt care ENOUGH about their health to be doing anything. You were a person who did not have the requisite discipline, maturity, and committment to maintain their body. Your body. The one thing that no matter what happens to you, you have to rely on to get by with.

Its your first and last line, and everything in between is because your body is there, willing, and able.

I would say you are a very different person from two years ago.

and speaking from experience...

I used to be a total nerd, shit, still am. look how often I post on TA before women never talked to me because of it. Still dont. Why? Same reason? I thought so. Until a girl got drunk enough to tell me I scare the shit out of her.

Then 4 months later another girl did the same thing. Said she was afraid of me. ME. The skinny shit from highschool!

Guys scare women on some level. One thing ive had to work on like crazy is becoming UBER NICE to girls, and having to show that a gentle side exists. Hard work for an A-hole hehe. So anyways. Thats my take on all this stuff.

pace.

Excellent summary as always, Orbax.

So like, are we talking about a 6-pack of beer or a 6-pack of donuts?

I always had kind of a 6-pack but it was pretty useless to me as I'm ridiculously skinny. Have to really push myself to gain any weight, I think my brain burns off most of the calories on its own. Girls aren't going to see your 6-pack when you're walking around town anyway, better to work on things that are more visible.

Guys constantly expect women to be good looking and in good shape, and if those same guys are too lazy to keep themselves in shape then they don't deserve those women. I don't see anything wrong with a girl having the same expectations - they should. Doesn't work in my favour, mind you, but at least I don't bitch about how shallow they are.

Shallowness is one of those romanticized versions of a harsh reality which is that physical attraction is far more powerful than strength of character. Sorry but that's just how we work biologically. It would be nice for a lot of us if it wasn't, but it is. Trust me, it's a lot harder for me to gain weight than it is for most of you to lose weight, so don't bitch about girls not liking fat asses - suck it up.

hehe thanks Dig.

What do you think has more worth contained within.

A: the shining Golden box with rubies

or

B: The Fetid pile of feces with a stick stuck in it

.

Hell even if there isnt anything inside of the Golden box with rubies, and there was a pearl hidden among the peanuts of poo, you still have a GOLDEN BOX WITH RUBIES.

I guess thats the other side of things.

Hey, you're discriminating against people who like digging around in feces. Racist bastard.

Posted by Orbax on Apr-12-2004 05:18:

id do it if I knew there was a precious object in there. but as soon as I got it id "dump" the feces...whoa so many meanings there!

And every single one of those meanings is disgusting.

But anyway, this should serve as an FYI to all the women out there who I've moved to tears with my anti-feminism and general misogynism; I don't support male arrogance any more than female arrogance. People should respect each other, simple as that.

That was unwarranted, are my posts off-topic?

There's really no reason to say that unless the thread is actually being hijacked.

That is exactly what I was feeling when I started this thread. That in our society, men expect all the women they see to be beautifull and fit. And most women have to work there ass off to look liek that. And because so many women now look like that I feel that I shoud also be fit and in shape if not for myslef for my girl. And besides, it is incredibly fun when you used to be 205 lbs and you are now 171 and you go to a beach and shock everyone that still thought you were a fat ass. That is why I did it.
