Wow, what a set! Damn shame i couldn't make it, but oh well i still had a good night. I'll be sure to see you this Friday heath.

Posted by gumble on May-09-2004 12:16:

Great set Heath!!!!

You were ok too Strangis, cept for you-know-what

I wanted some house from the other room for a bit, I walked in and Boogie pimps was playing, i walked stright back out.

Matt Parkers set was good at start of night.

TAs in attendance: PulseFusion, DeeCee and of course myself and Heath

Sorry u didnt get the numbers Lucas, the place seemed so empty; but then again, ure attitude prior wasnt exactly deserving. Thats just my opinion.

The whole "FUCK TAs - i dont need you" idea isnt gonna get u far, not when our starting out and you need ppl like that to support your events.

So, nice once Heath and Strangis for putting on a good solid trance show, shame no numbers, very ambitious to fill that place though.

And that Tom-E guy, man, that wasnt even music. What a joke.

Posted by LucasYork on May-09-2004 15:36:

No worries.

I won't be putting on anymore trance shows.

I now admire the way hard dance/DnB fan's support their music, not their promotors.

As I've always been open minded about music, I think my next event will be smaller and feature differen styles.

I'll leave the trance parties up to heathy

Lucas

I think the reason for the poor turnout was the cross genre to be honest. I mean for $20 people can go see a good trance international DJ.

Posted by LucasYork on May-10-2004 03:11:

The only place you'll see a trance international for under $20 is heaven

you know why? because they make so much money at the bar!!

i know the fee's of most trance international's and prices r so bloody high, that it would be a massive risk for a promotor to even get one and charge $20... even for some of the smaller ones..

anyway, it's all good

Posted by Audio Beverage on May-10-2004 04:27:

OR it could be just the simple fact that internationals have enough of a reputation to be able to lure anyone that's heard of their tracks before.

Let's say it cost a promotor $30,000:: to bring in 4-strings. With a repuation like his (and the fact fresh play his tracks all the time), I think that even a 1 week capaign on fresh would have seen 2500 people at the event.

Now 2500 people * $20 = $50,000.

Based on those figures, you've already made a profit of $20,000(not including the cut from the bar). There are of course other expenses but meh

I think that any international that's top ontop of the charts on fresh *cough* PLUMMET *cough*. would draw the crowds in. And I'm sure he would be cheap too.

And no, I don't really like plummet, but if you want to draw crowds in, atleast give them someone they like and want to hear.

Posted by LucasYork on May-10-2004 04:38:

Ok,

Firstly.. I think your dreaming mate.

2500 people? what planet are you from?

The first time Heaven had him.. they packed out heaven, maybe 1500 people...

You'd also be very surprised who people will go and see....when I was at tiesto, 90% of the girl's i knew who were there, didnt know him.. they were there because of christmas night...

Most people don't have a clue and alot of events, AKA like two tribes with huge amounts of internationals, fail!!!

Even smaller amounts, it's all easy to try add up figures, but it doesnt work like that and your missing like the other dj fee's, promotions, staff, bouncers, flyers blah blah blah

Yeah, both really good trance sets, had great tunes for 4 hours solid, till Tom-E started.

Good to catch up with gumble and SOLACE again and good to meet you PulsePusion.

As far as bitching and moaning about numbers and money goes, it's too late now!

Will catch up with all this friday.

firstly, i appreciate what you have done, and do respect the fact that you're trying, but what's a comment like that supposed to achieve?

do you think clubbers care who the promoter is? i'll have you know that people generally don't know who the promoters are and don't care at least so it's not like we are supporting other promoters over you.

admittedly, saturday night may have not turned out the way you would have liked, but if you are on this board, and a promoter, then you should have a better idea than most as to how much pull trance has in adelaide, not to mention the fact that likely not one person off this board has any idea who steve strangis is and even i have no idea who tom-e or sam gee are. the point that i'm trying to make is that definitely i would say that if this is what you want to do, then go ahead and pursue it, maybe just start out smaller. what heath is doing at echo is good for adelaide, it is filling a niche, trance, is a small thing in adelaide and soda room simply because of its size is a perfect venue for that. so yes, it was risky what you did at lerox and i hope you at least broke even for your efforts, and no doubt all of us here appreciate that you did risk that. if being a promoter is what you want to do then maybe even talk to heath, i dont know how you two get along, but maybe if you cooperate and co-organise echo, you could make it twice as big then eventually move to bigger events at bigger venues. i do think it was fairly ambitious to even come close to filling the bridgeway for a number of factors (distance from the city, ticket price, music, etc.) especially considering the health of the trance scene (bar echo) here and as stampy i think said, if anyone, you want at least all of us there. lucas, i say stick with it, but be careful. don't let one night get to you.

think of this as a stimulation for discussion, not as criticism.

on a lighter note, even though there weren't many there, i had a great time, its always good to hear great music over the speakers instead of the odd track or two being ok every now and then. and wow! i did like the lighting production, thumbs up for that and wicked sound too (go the "la"-"ser"). good to see all the ta's again, steve, i've seen ya play 4 times now and havent ever had the chance to say hi properly... will have to soon good to meet ya DC too, sorry dude, ya old fart! eh eh! j/k dude,

highlights: kallocain, active sight and solarcoaster !!! i dunno bout that silence song tho...

heh heh, i reckon solarcoaster and atrc are steve's signature songs, didnt hear waterfall though... unfortunately i had to leave about during cafe del mar so missed a bit, but its all good. i liked ... just curious, do any of you have I95 or velvet morning (Aalto), i'd love to hear them in a club...

i'm no promoter, but would handing around a few free passes at uni bring in a few extra people? like i dunno, how it all works, but wouldn't a bit of exposure be good?? like apart from word of mouth, maybe about ten or twenty dotted around, to strangers of course, assume a third come, that'd only be good. and a few posters around on the pillars? like the one out the front of the engineering building and unirecords?? and the one on the stairs? just a thought... i do realise that it would cost money for all this though... just i think that we need to attach the night that month ago with the echo name, then when people see the word echo, they will remember. but i suppose, being able to do it again is the clincher.
