from every other dj in the world
You guys are missing one important point ... humans are creatures of habbit, if we do something (in this case follow somthing) for a long period of time, we get bored easily and always expect more.
We "tranceaddicts", have been into the scene for quite a while, and our tastes developed. We care more about the music than about having fun. Their have been countless of times that i went to clubs only to see a bunch of tranceaddicts sticking by the booth trying to get a glimpse of what track the big dj is playing, instead of just dancing and having fun.
What im trying to get at, imagine going back to the early days you started listening to edm, your first experiences at club events. Back then you didnt know as nearly as much as you do now (well for me that was the case) and your experience was awesome cause everythign was NEW. Currently, every time a big dj plays, their are only a handfull of ppl who can id 2 tracks or so, the rest jsut come to have fun and its NEW to them.
Stop following the genre for 3 months, like cut yoruself completely off, when you then return and see a big dj.. even fluff trance will sound good to you, cause its NEW.
We are unfair to critisize big DJs for playing fluff. They have a whole club to cater to not just us tranceaddicts. We let our big ego's get in the way of us havign a good time ... "why the fuck is pvd playing time of our lives.. that track is so old and cheesy, he should put it to rest". But the person next to you is digging the track, cause it is the first time they heard it.
We are just spoiled. And for everyone who says Armin is self promoting his label on ASOT, WELL YA OF COURSE HE IS. He is making a living producing tracks, djing, and running a label. We would all do the same. In the end it is up to the public to buy the records, if tehy are poor, they wotn sell. Its business.
Remember not just TRANCEADDICTS listen to edm, our views can be right and educated but do not reflect the views of everyone listening to "our" music. So put your egos to rest and go listen to whatever you want, have fun, dance, and enjoy life!

| Originally posted by Radagast Armin? At least he plays something else (even if it is crappy). What about Markus Schulz. I think he qualifies for a "Decline" thread more than anyone, if you compare his old productions/sets with his recent ones. But I don't blame him. Apparently a decline in what some would call quality results in an increase in popularity. |

Tiesto is thinking in the wrong way. he thinks that this will generate record sales for him, when really what would generate more sales would be to produce something amazing that could not be disputed as a masterpeice... |

| Originally posted by Sand Leaper My bad, I misread your post, but give me some examples on why Belgium and Germany is so awful trancewise. (And no, I'm not referring to Jan Wayne or Groove Coverage, that's not trance) And you still haven't proven why the lifestyle of the ppl on the mainland is what makes the european trance so bad. And there's no need for name calling either, it only reduces you to the age of 14. Especially when you resort to words like nobjockey |
i totally agree to the topic starter. he's definately on a downfall *wears his anti-flame vest*. he's going into a new form of commercial trance, not the traditional commercial trance that we're aware of. as described in the long post in the begining of this page, his trakcs and mixing started to be directed to the new uprising trance clubbers, rather than the die hard quality listeners. (not trying to be snobish or anything
)
also ASOT became sooo repetitive, i don't mean he plays the same tracks all the time (which happens alot though). i mean he plays the same sound all the time?! i stopped listening to be frank since i stopped enjoying it.
and finally hehehe, we know that the worst thing that can happen to a popular is to reach the top 3. cuz then ppl will start bashing right away, plus they always loose their touch.
anyhow that was just my 2 cents
I think you got it all wrong, Armin is on his way up to be #1 DJ, maybe not this year, but next for sure.
You say he plays cheese, well it's the tunes most people in the clubs around the world like, so if that's cheese fuck it
just look at anywhere he goes, people know the tunes he plays because they listen to ASOT and his sets, and not because they're played on local radio.
Personally I don't like what happens to #1 DJs, they get bashed all the time, heck even now when he's #3 you start this thread I fear to think what people will write when he's #1 but it's his dream so be it.
But that's beside the point, I "don't like" AvB just because of the songs he's playing, I can't ID most, but of the experiences he brings me/us every time you see him in club in person, it's a great party and voyage into trance that's well worth the club's admission fee, it's what I so far haven't been disappointed with, and I doubt I ever will
I have to travel long ways! just to see him for that matter.
Luckily I am not one of those people who are trying to see what vinyl he's spinning, but just enjoy and dance to the music, because where I live I don't have chance to listen to it live.
You say he's signing trash tunes to his label, keep in mind he created the label to sign tracks no one else wanted to sign not because they are bad but because they don't sell well.
There's no real money in singles.
Money is in compilations and artist album.
His label and tunes he's signing and promoting on ASOT is great opportunity for new talents to make a career for themselves.
And finally, Armin himself said "trance sound" is changing, so you can't expect him to play same old tunes he played 5 years ago, they were brilliant sure, but we 'heard that' and now you gotta move on.
Just look at how many non-vocal tunes he plays during his gigs, if that's not trance I don't know what is.
I think all of you negative posting people are just too bored as guy before me wrote.
All respect to Armin and his work, whether he becomes #1 or not he's a true trance DJ and isn't ashamed to admit it in today's world when trance music is still making a break for itself around the world.
in my opinion from the 3 times that i have seen gim, once a 2 hour set, and 2 4-5 hour sets. Armin's mixing didn't continue the flow of his tracks. His mixing wasnt aggressive, basically fade in fade out, while taking the lows out...
Dj Sammy>Armin
+1
Blah blah 'boring prog drivel' ...
Who are the elitists ?
lol the really funny thing is.....if armin experiments like tiestos done in recent years(and look at the slagings thats got him) then like tiesto most people will jump on a bandwagon and criticise him for doing that. But then theres others that feel he should do that and critisise him for not........
And to the reply about people liking a tune just because tiesto or armin makes it etc...thats true to some extent in the fact more people will listen to it and give it a chance simply because of the name. Where as less known producers/names etc ur less willing to give a listen. I dont personally do this tho i dont think love comes again is a bad record at all not my style but sounds awsome live as does traffic etc etc.
Getting back to my first bit...lol hes screwed if he does experiment cause that could loose him some fans but then again gain some. And exactly the same way round if he doesnt experiment...some people will get bored and other will like it! I think simply the only thing you can do as a dj is play wot you like....
well where do you see armin headed? Gonna continue playing "asot" tracks till people's ears bleeds?
in all honesty
avb=trash
tiesto=trashier
pvd=trashiest
its all about the new sleeper hit producers coming into the scene
i said it once ill say it again
out with the old ...in with the new
only reason i listen to oakenfold...is because of his traklists on sunday nites...other than that his mixing is terrible
thanks for your amazing insight.

| Originally posted by Cobalt That made me think of something. If all the active tranceaddict board members were stranded on a desert island a la Lord of the Flies, I wonder what groups would form? I bet we would factionalize based on certain DJ allegiances, first and foremost, with genre preferences secondary. The next question, of course, would be what groups come to violence first (assuming no one set up a rule of law). Which would eventually come to dominate? How many would be killed in the process? Okay, that enough out of me. |
