big flames fan here from the toronto forum... been reading the western canada forum just for the flames talk, =)

i've heard rumours of a fleury comeback sometime... but cbc showed him in the stands tonight and my god... he's in no shape to play hockey.... but all that is only secondary... i hope he can get his life back in order first... then think about coming back... i really hope to see him finish in calgary sometime...

*shrug* I was close.

And as I've said from the beginning, either team can win it, and I still feel that way. (Being from Detroit I'm forced to root for the Wings, but I honestly question wether they'll win).

honestly cant believe flames are doin so well... its pretty astounding*(sp), considering that they had'nt proven much since the 88-89 season.

GO FLAMES GO

I wish Calgary was healthy

Calgary had a majority of the play for two out of three periods and that was enough to win. Unless Detroit gets some traffic in front of Kipper, they will not score. It is part of the Flames "D" system to let Detroit control the puck on the perimeter and shoot from the point while the Flames Defense removes the Wings' forwards from the front of the net. It might look like Detroit is dominating the play but passing around the puck on the perimeter is harmless if you have no one crashing the net.

The Flames will only get stronger...they basically played with 3 proven D and still won....Montador and Commodore combined have only played like 40 games for Calgary...and even those games were for restricted minutes.

Detroit needs play with more desperation and I really question if they're capable of doing so. I think Lewis is a horrible coach and couldn't incite a fire at an arsonists' convention. Lest we forget last year's sweep. Heck, even Nashville took them to six.

If Calgary stays out of the penalty box, they will win. Besides, we need the irony of Kiprusoff eliminating the Sharks, the stupid team who traded him for a bag of pucks earlier in the season. Now that'll be sweet revenge. Flames all the way to the Cup.

That is well said, the Flames are a great team defensively.
I also think Lewis is a horrible coach who looks like Hitler!
The wings are to old and the Flames are to solid and hungry to let the wings beat them for the majority of the game.
The Flames are a team that is destined for something special this year, just look how many key guys we've lost. A forward on our top line, our 3 of our best defensemen and were still winning games not to mention the series!
If the Flames can prolong the series or playoffs long enough to get some of those key guys back, then they can only get stronger!

GO FLAMES GO!

what series are you guys watching ?

first of all the wings have played 2 periods of average hockey throughout this series , traffic in front of the net we are getting ,holmstrem is parked there , shany is crashing the net , the wings are just not putting in there open net ,yes open , oportunities. its funny great teams ,people always have to find something silly to bug them about , it used to be too many russians , then it was payroll now its age , how can you say 30-32 is old , half the league is that age , keep watching the series , remember its a 7 game series , run down nashville all you want but they are similar to calgarys makeup , we wore them down and we will do the same to the flames WATCH AND SEE

Rose-colored glasses can always be misleading....

- If two periods of average hockey leads to two losses. I hope they play two more average periods in the next four games.

- Holmstorm parks in front of the net on the PP....rarely even-strength.

- If Shanny was crashing the net, he would have more than 1 goal to show for his 36 shots.

- They are old compared to the Flames...who cares about the rest of the league

- Nashville doesn't have a Hart and Vezina trophy candidate...that makes a bit of difference don't you think.

- I'm not counting my chickens...but your prediction was Wings in 5 or 6. One of them is already wrong and I highly doubt the Wings will wing three straight considering Calgary has yet to lose back to back games in the playoffs.

- Lastly, I'm glad you're on here. If we didn't have a Wings fan stationed in Vancouver, this thread would be useless.

Yes we will se tonight and everything chadvandyk said is absolutely true!
You are gonna be so embaressed when the wings play the same game that they played tuesday and this time they wont get two lucky goals!
This game is going to be a great one you'll see!

GO FLAMES GO!

Posted by mikefasssy on Apr-30-2004 04:43:

that was very poor.

my respect level just plummeted for calgary.

inexcusable.

Posted by TranceForever on Apr-30-2004 04:50:

Ya im a huge Flames fan and I don't exactly think that was a great thing Nimmenen did at the end!

We'll see what happens with that.
But the biggest games of the series is coming up.

GO FLAMES GO!!!!

Posted by DjCommisad on Apr-30-2004 17:51:

I didnt see the game because I was on vacation, just got back today.

I just read this after reading caleb's post on NHL.com

"In the closing seconds, and the game no longer in doubt, Nieminen slammed into Joseph and knocked him back into the goal. Nieminen drilled him high, and Joseph held his head while lying flat on his back.

Nieminen was given a major penalty for charging and was ejected."

That's brutal and inexcusable. Kick the guy out of the series.
I mean its one thing to nudge or check the goalie if he wanders out to play the puck, but to charge the goalie in his crease is stupid. I mean if the guy makes an effort to avoid the goalie in some way, even if he still hits him and takes him out, that's one thing, give him a penalty and forgive and forget, but if the guy deliberately does that, that's friggin bs.

What, did Gauthier start giving out lessons on how to be a dickhead or something?

Posted by TranceForever on May-01-2004 23:15:

Well like I said before, the Flames will win another game and we did it in Detroit!
So 35 and hooked whats up!

The Flames have a huge advantage and momentum and we're going back to our house!

Flames in 6!

GO FLAMES GO!!!

Posted by ChadVanDyk on May-01-2004 23:42:

What can I say...it's party time like its 1989 in Calgary tonight. What a performance by Dave Lowry....fricking legendary. On to game six.

Posted by jesten on May-02-2004 00:31:

What was the score today? Judging by the above post the Flames won. Come on Flames bring the cup back to Canada.

Posted by DjCommisad on May-02-2004 01:02:

1-0 Calgary. They got lucky with a few great blocked shots in the last min. Ignila.. fumbalena, fumbilina... oh yeah.

Posted by j_spot on May-02-2004 02:58:

wow is about all I can say.
the flames played all heart today.

the game ended 4 hours ago, and people are still driving up and down 17th honking horns n shit.

Posted by kypez on May-02-2004 07:23:

Go flames go.. Hah bandwagoners

Posted by j_spot on May-02-2004 12:25:

so do they lose 6 win 7?
or take it at home in 6?
it would follow suit to lose 6(win lose win lose win lose) but how nice would it be to finish the series @ home

any word oh Yzerman yet?

Posted by TwoHardCore on May-03-2004 13:08:

Yeah, Yzerman's injuries are pretty bad (not sure exactly). He had 4 hours of surgery and will definitely be out for the year .

Even though I'm not a Detroit Red Wings fan, I am a hockey fan, and a Steve Yzerman fan. That may have been his last game in the NHL...., which would be a sad way to see a future hall of famer end his career.

btw, Go Flames Go!

Posted by DJ_Bod on May-03-2004 15:17:

Yzerman is done for the year....

His injuries included a scratched cornea and a fractured facial bone (my guess would be the orbital bone). The surgery was successful because his vision is no longer blurred (and his face is still intact).

I read that from Yahoo.... Take it for what its worth

Well there are two reasons the Wings lose tonight:

1. The injury to Yzerman is just a sign that they're finished.

2. The Flames know what its like to have a chance to put away a series at home in games 6, and this time they will be more prepared and hungrier than every to finish the old Wings at home in front of the best fans in the NHL!

GO FLAMESGO!!!!

Posted by 35 and hooked on May-04-2004 00:50:

wow

it sounds like you work for the the flames PR and are trying to sell tickets to tonites game,i guess you haven't seen alot of playoff games before but in 97 the wings rallyed behind konstantinov's injury and took the cup sometimes it takes unfortunate incidents like this for a team to play at there full potential and finish off the job the canucks started G OOOOOO WIIIIIIIIIIIIINGS
