if you watched the game then you would have seen that it was actually heskey and gerrard who pwned england. Zidane did nothing to deserve the goals he scored, but if you give away free kicks so close to goals and penalties then he is bound to score.

I'm agree it's a quite impressive tactic , France never have been able to strike in good conditions and I still don't know why they tried long air center whereas English was much better in this kind of game. But telling it's luck (for the first goal) is unfair , they tried during all the 2nd half-time to find faults in your defense system and they finally got it at the end. What does it care if it's 90 or 80 or whatever? They obtained a free-kick in the same way Beckham obtained it before your goal.
You missed the penalty , bad luck , nice stop. It was the only one dangerous situation you created. (And I have to say Sylvestre should have been expulsed). Other countries can thank you now , they all now france isn't invincible (so far). Your team impressed me , although I'm not sure that you will go far in that competition with this kind of game (Notice, it is what Italy practiced in 2000). I hope we will
meet again in the last game for the revenge

France may have had more possession but how many goalscoring chances did they actually have? Other than a good header from Trezeguet which went just over the bar, very little. David James was hardly troubled all game. Man of the match for me was Rooney, although if he had passed to Vassell instead of going past Silvestre we'd have been 2-0 up and Beckham wouldn't have taken the penalty. That's the thing, there are so many 'ifs' in this game and all of them were unfortunately down to England, not France.

You say that France tried in the second half to find faults in the English defence and eventually did. I disagree, everyone in England cringed when Heskey was brought on because he has a history of fucking up at crucial times, most of us don't even want him in the squad. Zidane was on the edge of our box looking for options when Heskey comes and makes a trademark blunder. Suddenly France are back in the game. And France did nothing towards the 2nd goal, England only had to kill another 10 seconds and it was over, we had possession and were under no pressure. You have Gerrard to thank for his unbelievable backpass to Henry for your second goal.

However I wouldn't lay the blame at any individual player for our downfall, to lose the way we did was just spectacular bad luck. On another day we could have won this 2 or even 3-0 it just wasn't to be.

GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

So shocked with that result, how the hell we threw it away is a big a mystery as why women go the toilet in pairs.

Ashley Cole should have dealt with the ball not Gerrardas he was facing the right way.

Only saving grace is i get to see the quarter-final now

How do you figure that out, England had a greater amount of possesion in the first half, while the second was evenly matched. And the goal scoring chances were few and far between but even.

So the goal we scored wasnt a dangerous situation either?

I dont know about my fellow englishmen but at half past 9 last night i was close to tears. I couldnt beleive that we had lost so cruely.
To all your Frogs legs! you are the european champions. You have probably, on paper, THE best team in the world. You did nothing to suggest anything at all to say that these are an accurate description of your team! You tried everything yesterday to break down a risiliant defence and you never succeeded.

Best player? Rooney. I think he was the best player on both teams. He feared no french player what so ever and when he ran at them it scared the shit out of u.

Heskey as usual messes up and his inclusion is beyond me but Sven has always liked his "work rate".

I feel sorry for Beckham. People will say that he should not take the penalties, but who else can? It takes allot of balls to step up, and our goldenballs is the captain! Unlucky i say.

I think we should take this as a spring board to the competition. France tried everything they had to create chances in the second half and they did nothing apart from cross balls that were met with english heads. Both france and england will rip apart Croatia and Switzerland if they both play like they did yesterday.

We'll see you in the final France (if you get there )

i really thought after the 1-0 that the game was done ...england would win but fortunately it didn't happen like this but i think if france ...well if we want to win zizou and his mates have to improve their games and positions there is no denyin that england is a strong team ....but this victory is just something done ...but they have to stay concentred on the next matches ....

but yeah im glad we won last nite ....that's though somewhat sad for england but that's the game !

Indeed, as a captain Beckham has to take responsibility and he probably took the guts to take the penalty, imagine if Rooney took the penalty and missed? the papers would kill him, absolutely abuse him, and no kid needs that :/ Rooney was absolutely fucking awesome tho, that move he did on Thuram and the run to earn the penalty, absolute quality

Although Beckham took the penalty, it was bloody stupid of him to, considering Barthez has had to face him millions of times in the past in training in penalties on the training pitch.

Bah :/ I cant believe how lucky the french are, did you see Frank Lampard's comments? they were very agressive! I dont blame him tho, a lot of the French players and fans were singing a song of Victory, and Lampard was severely fucked off and seeked revenge.

I hope so too, cause no team deserved that cruelty.

France play Croatia on Thursday. The question for England fans is, who do we want to win??

If Croatia win, England will have to beat Croatia in the last game just to qualify (because France are bound to beat Switzerland). If this happens it is technically possible to win the group, but Switzerland would have to draw with France(!).

If France win and England beat Switzerland, then we will lose all hope of top place but we will only need a draw to be sure of qualification.

Whilst it would be funny to see Croatia upset France, I'm afraid it would put us under less pressure if France beat Croatia.

I was around the corner from my house along a main strech of road with about 20 odd pubs, the atmosphere just went sour in the pub I was in, next thing a bit of a ruck broke out, I finished my drink and left.

Stepped out on the street then in front of me I saw total chaos mass brawls glasses, bottles, planks of wood, road signs you name it getting launched across the street, people beating the shit out of each other about 10 odd riot vans turned up and shit knows how many cop cars. Watched it all unfold for a couple of minutes getting ready to chin the nearest little prick who got to close, then went home to ring my friend as she lives in flat by one of the pubs most the trouble was breaking out at and I was worried about her.

Chatted to a few people the next day supposidly in one of the pubs they were nicking plasma screens and some twats used them as weapons there is still patches of dried up blood everywhere.

At the end of the day it always happens with big matches, most of the people who kick off are just wannabe hooligans or people who have had too much to drink.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jun-14-2004 22:16:

It's a good job it wasn't on a Friday or Saturday night otherwise all the jumped up pricks would have been out in force and even more pissed. No trouble in the bar I was in.

Posted by chesco on Jun-14-2004 22:17:

idiots.

What do they expect to gain by smashing things up. Complete and utter arseholes. There was apparently a load of trouble in bournemouth as well, I just don't see the need for it.

fucking bottles flew over my head and smashed against the wall... tv's were being kicked and punched as well, its a game of football for gods sakes, yes I'm pissed off too but that is just a step too far.

it may have been a chav's pub but my god did it have some totty, amazing :O god bless the summer, short skirts, skimpy tops and lovely tanned birds

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Jun-14-2004 22:36:

Doe's anyone remember the England V Romania (I think) in 2002 when they get got knocked out that? was by far the worst lot of trouble I saw and that was on a Saturday I was seeing people kicking off at about 11 am in the morning it was that fucking stupid, there was so many people I remember out there causing trouble like 100s.

Posted by Magnetonium on Jun-15-2004 01:31:

WOW. I watched that game.

Very exciting to watch English meltdown at the end of the game, even though I thought England was gonna win the game (before the game started).

best team in south america...Colombia

Yeah, right... let's see: in the South American preliminaires for the WC2006 Brazil's is the leading team followed closely by Argentina while Colombia has the 2nd worst results (Bolivia having just one less point). AND:
FIFA COCA-COLA WORLD RANKING

1. Brazil
2. France
5. Argentina
13. England
37. Colombia

Behind Korea, Japan, Morocco (fastmp3's squad) and Senegal.

And finally, Colombia lost the last match against Brazil

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Jun-15-2004 01:49:

The FIFA rankings are ridiculous. they're almost as bad as the World Golf Rankings.

But Colombia is still the 2nd last team in the preliminaires... I got the Fifa ranking just as back up.

Posted by Electronicmaji on Jun-15-2004 02:39:

it doesnt matter if we win or lose its the talent we got yes but we have 7 points and are almost in the top 5 considering we lost and tied in the first 4 games an had to change our coach were doing incredibly well...

Posted by Frase on Jun-15-2004 02:52:

Fifa rankings mean jack shit anyway, the european teams dont play half the shite teams the people over the atlantic do

I didn't watch the game so i can't really comment, but it is quite funny to hear you pomms whinge (again). A harsh result to swallow for English football fans, but alas, it has happened.

You don't even want to get me started on how many times the Australian national team has broken our heart - FFS we drew 2-2 with Solomon Islands the other day, although we fielded a really shitty team with no names.

Well if you didnt watch it you cant comment can you
