The growth of TA, a blessing or a curse?

| Originally posted by The Highroller i don't really think this is totally true. with trance sets, it's build up, break down, build up break down, ad infinitum so the crowd goes mildly nuts to every climax. with prog sets, it's a continuous beat, which some people like. then every once in a while, there's a track with a huge build up/break down and the people go absolutely nuts. the deejay uses climaxes in moderation. it just depends what you like, but i think i've seen crowds more nuts over prog sets than trance sets. |
haha, good analogy!

So to summarize, prog set goes as follows:
- Prog DJ plays boring shit music for 5 hours.
- Then, all of a sudden, prog DJ suddenly plays something good(dare I say Trancy???). Of course everybody is extremely happy, hands in the air, etc. Notice that people are happy not only because that part is actually good, but because after 5 hours of shit, they are finally hearing something decent. Of course they are going to be excited !!
- The set is over and people go home.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather skip the first 5 hours.
EDIT. What I described here is actually somewhat different from sex. In sex both "parties" get pleasure from foreplay. With prog sets, it's only the DJ who is pleasured(he gets paid for those 5 hours). The crowd is tortured. Unfortunately there are too many masochists out there.
PS. Please don't take this post too seriously. It was meant to be at least slightly humorous.
yea, you hit the nail right on the head Ilyia!
in all honesty tho, and i know it's been used enough times,
"...not everybody understands house music, it's a spirtual thing, a body thing, a soul thing..."
i can see why people would like trance even tho i don't like most of the new stuff. why can't you guys understand why people like prog?
haha, another great sex analogy!
Uuuhhhmm.. no... Ilyia, have you listened to any prog sets? (And good examples?)
Ok.. yes, it's a lot lower key without all the high-pitched synths and faster tempo... but i feel there's a lot more groove and sensuality in prog and it's SUCH a trip!
Oh.. and by the way, transitioning is VERY Important and necessary to create the whole journey of the set; it's not just a "showcase" of self-sustaining tracks. That's why I cringe when I hear most trance transitions (albeit pretty tough due to melody clashing all the time) that Tiesto does live... I'm all about the technical aspect behind it because for me a set's transitions has to be TRANSPARENT for it to be most effective.
(Btw.. i didn't mean to start anything with 'bashing' Tiesto -- it was just an example)
