FELLOW JUDGES,,,,,,,,,

Have we got a structure on marking sorted out???

If so, lets get it up in writing so all understand what there looking and listening for.

25 point per catorgory or something?

Or shall we make a rules set up for judging?

Stick to the rules. Just mark each section with a score from 0 to 25.
I'll do the final rankings.

like i said, hail to the new champ.
poor vmc can't defend his (two comp at least) running reign!

Judges:
25 marks on track selection & flow (play order, etc)
- not based on personal bias', based on overall presentation, etc.. although you can disqualify for overuse of non-trance music (bend as far as progressive)
- this section can also include any personal props, anything special the dj did to his set to give it that extra bump!

25 marks for harmonics. (hopefully you understand this concept)

25 marks for transitions and beat matching. was the beat matching on?

judges realize that every dj's style is slightly different, but they should still be able to pull off djing whether their transitions be long and smooth or short and energetic.

I'm just reading this off my head from what i remember of previous competitions.

Taken from front page:
Mixes will be marked on the following categories:
a) Track selection and play order
b) Beat-matching
c) Transition harmonics
All sections contain 25 marks, no section is worth more than another.
A percentage will then be calculated from these three areas to give a better comparison.

As for a combined scoring system? Just hand in your marks (ie xx/25, xx/25, xx/25 = xx/75) to djsphere. He'll tally it up.

Might also help to record your thoughts on scrap paper as you listen to sets, so if you need to relisten you can review your notes. Plus, competitors will love you if you post/pm us comments and feedback (optional to pass back scores, but you should wait until after the closing date for mixes to hand back scores)

cheers!

btw.
im the resident train wreck dj!!!

uhm, could I suggest not to post the tracklists of your sets yet? I mean, you put yourself in a disadvantage by letting us all know what you've used and gives us an idea of how to beat ya, if you know what I mean.

Posted by tortoise on Aug-08-2004 02:47:

just do what u do. its not like we are wining any thing. besides track selection is only 1/3 of your points

heh, it's still a competition. Anyway, I was just commenting and the fact it might twist the other competitors tracklist, but nevermind then

hehe, i know what u mean, but its still cool to see what others are doing. and no, it doesn't necessarily put them at a disadvantage. as tortoise said, tracklist is 1/3. I've gotten really good scores for tracklistings in the past, and yet my beatmatching and harmonics suck!!! so i never get a good overall score.

we could have all of us use the same tracks, but if someone can mix them better and order them right, they'll score far better!

besides, white room - white room is mint!
