Anyone have access to a BMW M3 ???

There's a cheat code in the software running the BMW M3's sequential manual gearbox (SMG). Press the right buttons in the right order and the car will launch you from a stop after revving the engine to 5,000 rpm.

Basically by performing the cheat code listed below it will launch the car from the line at maximum possible acceleration without wheel spin.

But there is a limitation. In Europe doing more than 15 launches using this method voids the car's warranty. Federal laws prohibit this in the USA so BMW has decreased the revs so they are preprogrammed to wind to only 2,500 rpm where as European models can range to 5000 rpm. Therefore this method works much better on European models.

Procedure

Switch off the stability system and select shift program six

Switch the engine to sport mode

With the hand shifter in drive, hold it in the downshift position and press the accelerator pedal. (the engine will rev to the preprogrammed rpm (5000 rpm on the european software, 1800-2500 on the american software )

Release the shifter

The car will launch forward violently and the engine's revs will climb quickly, so be prepared to up shift.

Notes

This method can possibly cause damage to the transmission and after 15 launches the car's warranty will be void.

SMG was introduced on the E46 shapes, therefore this is the only model of the 3 Series in which this hack will work.

My point is Lexus and Jap autos have a big influence in many foreign autos in the market today out of competition and they have influenced the looks in many ways. (take a look at the 2006 beamers it has jap designs here and there.)

Camry is not the ugliest car and it's not a luxary car anyways. Look at the Benz C230, looks like it's been beat with an ugly stick and also the its new Hybrid (can you imagine Benz making a Hybrid car that looks like the ones Honda makes )

I'm happy there is competition in the auto-business as without it we would still be driving cars looking like the ones back in the 40's

Yes, I think they're ugly.

Honestly, most of these opinions I hear about American cars are just uninformed banter. Almost all of the major Japanese car companies have some of their factories in the United States, made by American workers. Comments like "American cars are poorly made" just don't make any sense, at least not in todays global automarket.

Mercedes-Benz is a German company, but they just switched a lot of their plants over to Mexico, and now their newer cars are falling apart all over the place. You can't make generalizations based simply on the mother-country of the car brand.

Sure other countries purchase foreign brands into theirs, but the whole point is who's making the cars and designing them and that's the motherland. So when one says American cars are poorly made, it's generalizing American brands, not foreign brands brought into America.

I don't like the bottom one, but the top, I assume a Supra, is sick. Also, the look of a clean civic SI, not too riced out, I find beautiful.

As far as American cars go. I will probably never own one. I think they look a hell of a lot cooler than they drive, most of the time. I'm not saying I wouldn't accept a free one, but I wouldn't spend my money on it. Just my opinion. I know a lot of people that love American cars. I will probably never own another German car either, due to the ridiculous maintenance and repair costs. Civic's aren't the nicest cars out there, nor the fastest (although you can make em pretty fast), but they are reliable and the cost for parts and maintenance is so minimal.

i was always under the impression that it was audi that owned vw....checked it out your right,at least i learnt my thing for the day

Ah, we had a miscommunication then. Poorly put together versus poorly designed. Everyone has a different opinion on which cars have better designs I guess, it's why there are so many cars out there. However I wouldn't be quick to generalize, I've worked on lots of cars and found many within each brand that were both great and terrible.

As for that comment, I don't know what you are smoking buddy but that is completely not true. I'm not even gonna bother.

I won't lie though that if I were buying a sedan or sports coupe I wouldn't go American right now, imports are just too tempting. I seriously think that current Nissan's have some of the best V6 engines ever built. However if I were buying a truck, it'd be an easy decision to stay American.

but who cares, why get smg when u have the normal manual stick

and to whoever said to get the smg, the manual owns it. yes the smg will give better 0 to 60 time, but it takes away so much fun of a manual car. driving is more than just 0 to 60 right?

I was driving an old Chevy truck for a bit, but that used way too many dead dinosaurs. So, my brother and I *switched* cars since I'm always traveling and he's sticking around Austin.

Right now I be rolling up in a 2001 corolla.

Seriously though, the corolla is great on gas, and I was able to recently take a 4400 mile roundtrip through West Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado for only a couple hundred bucks (gas money).

There's no way I could have done that with a 4.3 liter V6.

I do love driving a truck though more than a car.

My ideal car would be a 4X4 Nissan frontier, Chevy Colorado, or Toyota Tacoma crew cab with a gas/electric hybrid engine.

That way I could use the bed as a base to set up my camera tripod for enhanced perspective, have off road capability, and still be able to afford to travel.

bbjohs, thanks mate. i don't think anyone should envie me... each car is awesome in it's own right... i love my m5 though...such a great balance of sport car/luxury car (imo). i was considering a carrera 4, m5, and m3 when i got the car.... you can obviously see which one i decided on. the m3 is a nice car, and the csl is nice but not really a "practical" car.. no radio, air con, or even a thick trunk matt. very cool looking though! (Y)

the smg on the e36 was indeed different...first gen. i agree, i like manual the best, but auto makers are certainly trying to push smg on the public now... it's been the standard in f1 for quite some time, and more and more car makers are making it the "standard" on their new cars... i.e. the e60 m5 (smg only in the us).

oh and like i said... i have the m5 because i have a small penis.
