Your rankings look very solid. Damon and ManRam are better overall but not last night, that's what happens in baseball. Everyone's prognostications go haywire sometimes such as Schilling getting rocked. That's what makes it so interesting. The breakdown by position is interesting, I like that, but that's better for the newspapers because baseball is not just a collection of individuals.

Look at the past teams such as 1988 with the Dodgers beating the vaunted A's. Compare by positions/pitching and the A's should have stomped the Dodgers.

One thing I know, it's nice to have Jeter, Rivera and Joe Torre on your side. Those are 3 that go beyond analysis.

I wasn't asking in hindsight. Over the course of a season, contracts aside, who would you rather put out there every day?

As for Torre, while I do think he's a great manager, there are many who say he makes some bad moves and he plays favorites way too much.

when I got the tix yesterday, I called up the ticket broker who listed a few tickets on ebay. Since it was 4 hours before the game, he offered me a discount on the tickets...so I snagged two tix for the upper deck at $80 each and went with a coworker. Face value went for $71 a tix :-).

I think Torre's the best but he makes blunders... he's human. Leaving Gordon out there against Ortiz sure looked silly to me. He does play fav's too much sometimes...once you have his trust it's really hard to lose it and vice-versa.

A drunken Torre > Francona at his finest

then again

Average baseball fan > Francona at his finest

I'll never figure out why the Red Sox hired him to manage this team

FOX should pluck away Harold Reynolds from ESPN to do the play by play for the playoffs and world series. The whole Joe Buck and Tim McCarver drivel just ruins half the experience for me.

He's funny, yes. But he really doesn't know much about baseball.

And Cox is the best manager in baseball because he continually wins. Especially this year considering they were supposed to finish 3rd... He loses Sheffield, Millwood, Castilla and Lopez, yet still wins 90+ games. Torre has Sheffield, Rodriguez, Jeter, etc and just hits 100+ wins.
