But you said, Number 1 dj means he is good.
Thats a huge mistake, Number 1 means your famous not good, remember the djmag top 100 is a popularity contest.

I know I know..but the stats speak for it self.. so play what sells.. of course for many not listening to cheese or commercial hits kinda means you are real hardcore.. not a lollipop novice like so many others.. so we talk about non commercial tracks and less cheese tracks which you wont hear on some cheesy remix cd... but that doesnt mean he is a bad Dj.. becuase the fact is.. tiesto is number one becuase he is THAT GOOD! he might be abit of a sell out now.. but most of the top djs do sell out as do all stars... hip hop etc.... they turn commercial and start to play radio hits and get sloppy.. BUT!! the fact is.. if tiesto wanted to HE could do a set that would blow all the djs away and have us all dancing like freaks and then at the end of it we will be saying OH MY GOD!! please someone pick up my jaw it just hit the floor.. if he wanted too.. becuase he is that good! he has the talent and the skills.., its just that he is not really using them so often on the decks for the likes of us trance junkies he spends lot of time in the studio making the commercial cheese that will go number 1 all over europe and make him millions.. but hey.., thats no reason to be dissing him.. the guy can mix.. and we all know this.. anyway thanks for listening.. thats all I have to say about tiesto.. I think the guy is great.. of course I dont listening to him often but I think he needed some defence.. too much bashing.. IF tiesto came to my city I would go see him.. I guess most of you all would too.. maybe alot of you are angry that he is not doing what he is capable of doing.. or maybe a lot of you just do think he is garbage haahha to each there own huh.. well anyway.. |

Ive seen tiesto in 2001 play the best set i have ever seen in my entire life at godskitchen tiesto solo (6hours). It would be good if he could come back to this
If you like Tiesto, fine. I'm not going to give you shit for that, it's your choice. Why don't I like him? Well, for one thing, I personally do not like his style of music at all, but that's not why. There are a lot of DJs/producers who I do not care for at all, but still have a good deal of respect for. Tiesto gets on my nerves because his popularity is ridiculously bloated.
I don't care that he can sell thousands of tickets and fill stadiums. Britney Spears and 50 Cent can do that. I don't care that he played at the Olympics. So what? He provided background music for the athletes. Great for him, but remind me again, how this makes him a better DJ, and how this makes his sets better. It doesn't.
There are many fantastic DJs out there who can mix circles around him, both technically and selection wise. There are guys like Hawtin, Clarke, Zabiela, Phil K, Cox, Glaude, and many others, who have done all sorts of incredible, revolutionary things with their mixing, and Tiesto gets voted #1 for mixing two tracks back to back, and he can barely do that these days. What's more, is that he used to be able to mix pretty well and construct a good set back in the day, which means he's either going deaf, or isn't trying (and enjoying the easy cash).
What bothers me is that he gets praised and paid like a pop star, while better DJs have trouble just making it. Not to mention, the arrogant newbie fans of his who think they know everything (and before someone starts, no, this is not a direct attack at anyone on this forum).
People have bashed Tiesto, because he's narcissic,
and has NO SPECIAL REASON to think his sh*t doesn't
stink. His sets are crap in the past 2 years.

BTW here's some info on Westbam 
WestBam, alias Maximilian Lenz, was born on 4 March 1965 in M�nster, Westphalia. Not only is he Germany's most successful and most popular DJ and avantgardist of the Raving Society, he is also the most innovative producer and co-founder of Berlin's Indie Dance label, Low Spirit.
WestBam is in fact the abbreviated form of Westphalia BamBaataa and derives from this artist's home state in Germany and his role model Afrika Bambaataa. 1983 marked the beginning of his DJ career in the Odeon Club in M�nster. In 1984 he made a permanent move to Berlin which was still divided by the Wall. WestBam started as DJ at Berlin's famous Metropol and his sophisticated mixing techniques brought him fame far beyond the borders of the divided city. In 1985 WestBam worked with Klaus Jankuhn to produce his first 12" entitled "17" which was inspired by Paul Hardcastle's "19". In 1989 he made his first album "The Cabinet". This was the first DJ-concept album to be launched on the German market.

Westbam at Loveradio was one of the funnest sets i've ever been too. His Mayday set is really good too. Infact i've failed to see a shit set from him yet.

love tiesto still, who ever is at the top gets slated, if sasha was number one then he would be slated. by the way, this summer i was in ibiza and i happen to catch zabelia and sasha back to back at we love sundays@space, terrace and indoors, pretty special event, zabelia seemed alot better tho, didnt rate sasha that much, expected alot more. saw tiesto twice, at cream of course, thought he was amazing the second time.
but right now guys, i think its all about james holden, i even caught him at glastonbury 2004, and thought he was unbelievable, his music is so deep!!

Im only a member of this forum cause im in a shitty job and im at my desk bored all day long, it makes me laugh, some little geek who research's right into music and doesnt even go to a club and experience the DJ.
I work 9-5, mon-fri, in a shit job just to get the satisfaction out of going clubbing on fri and sat, to see the likes of TIESTO, cause he's a quality DJ (MY opinion) and ive been to see his gigs for the past 6 years and will do for a long time.
