I'm trying to have a go at the tutorial on page 1 but am struggling - I'm using FL Studio. Its difficult for me to see where the markers go and what kind of sounds the samples are as the .wav files are a little nondescript.

Can anyone help? .flp file? Fruity tutorial? I love the sound of that loop, but its taking an age to replicate it in FL.

Cheers, Mav3000

There are samples of each image, that should give you a pretty good idea what sounds are there.

Each of the images are 2 bars long, and the white lines mark each beat.

Techno percussion, how is it done? Lots of delay?

Also when your using delay with say 3 echos, it takes a few beats for the echos to get echo'd... if you know what I mean. How can u fix this?

Could you explain on the very first sound file example you use where the closed hi-hat is?

I am fairly new to complex(er) loops and know the kick, clap and open hi-hat, but just want to double-check on the closed one right at the start.

Every offbeat? I thought that was the open hats position?

Thanks for answering a stupidly n00bie question!

I really don't understand what you want me to explain here. What closed hihat? Do you mean the randomized hihats in the first pic?

I've never done techno but the delay thing doesn't sound right to me. I'd say distortion and busy hats.

I have no idea what you mean with the later part. You should be able to adjust the delay time on all delay programs/plugins.

Hi, I've got the loops all in the right order in FL now. The only difference is the factory hats I've used from FL don't sound anywhere near as good (but were as close-a-match as I could get).

My only questions is the closed hats - not the one in the first image, but the .mp3 sample before that - the most basic loop that you begin with (before adding more hats).

"A beat, a clap and an open hat with a closed hat every offbeat.
Pretty dull, huh? Well, let's see what we can spice it up with."

Just confused as to where the closed hats go in relation to the open hats (I thought the open hats were every offbeat?

The key word here is with. If you listen to the sample closely you'll notice a closed hat playing underneath the open hat and slightly panned to the right (I think). It's just a minor detail though.

Gotcha! Thanks very much for the tutorial - I feel I've learned a hell of a lot from it. I found it difficult from listening to tracks to pick up exactly whats going on in the percussion. Now I realise there's a lot of stuff going on to make it full and pacey.

Cheers for the help (esp with the dumb Qs at the end )

I'm glad I could assist. I'm not very good at explaining the things I do so it can get a bit confusing.
