The end of May will officially be the best weekend since Halloween

Posted by Zharen on Apr-26-2005 09:56:

Oh yeah. Totally agreed. Spend my Saturday night at 1015 with JOOF and finish my Memorial Day weekend at Love. Sux tho, I really wanted to go see G&D. Ah well.

Posted by DaveT on Apr-26-2005 18:10:

I'll be at G&D because 1 hour sets are fucking retarded...especially when some DJs who play here ALL THE TIME are a part of the lineup that's taking up potential set time of the headliners. And why the hell is Deep Voices last....no one gives a fuck about them accept their groupies. They should not be in the last slot. Prepare for a massive clearout.

If the lineup was just kick ass DJ after kick ass DJ each having an hour set, that's fine....but don't force one hour sets on the headliners just so the local DJs can get their time in.

Reminds me of Reza at his GoVentures massives down in LA. Used to always feel the need to get that big final slot....least he's come around and didn't do that at Monster Massive last year.

I'm pumped just to see G&D again because their sets get better and better each time I see them.

The JOOF show at 1015 on May 28th will be a 6 hour set. No other djs that night (unless the new regime at 1015 cock it up in the interim).

Posted by DaveT on Apr-27-2005 16:51:

i know. But will not put it in until it's announced as there is no source for the 6 hour set info.

Have known it would be a 6 hour set since February or so....the old booking manager (who handled the booking before her depature) was being pressured to add Taylor as an opener, but I told her to ignore the pressure and book him all night :-p

This is/was also supposed to be the start of a quarterly residency...but not sure if that's gonna happen now with the changes at Ten15 with the booking manager.

LOL. Thanks for that Dave. I have it from the best source available on this matter. Thats not to say whoever takes over wont change it, but as of last night that is still the case.

Cheers

Matt Darey really impressed me when he played at Ten15 in December.

Unfortunately I will be in LA from May 14 - 22 for work thus I will be missing both Marco V and Matt Darey in SF. So pissed off!!

But the mayhem that is Memorial Day Weekend is gonna make up for it, hopefully!!

Is Ruby Skye going to do another "White Party" in June? I remember last year they featured Felix Da Housecat as the main DJ. Any word yet on if PVD might be making it out to SF this year?

Yah, I know...it's gonna be killer. some peeps are gonna be VERY HAPPY with it this year if they are concerned about lineups. Have heard some rumblings....but still have no clue what Spundae and/or Opel's plans...the powers with the groups are being super tight lipped.

Opel has simply stated that there are huge plans. I think Spundae and Opel will be doing a float together again and hopefully another kickass afterparty!

Dave at same time, you and everyone else should be thanking the same local DJs for keeping the EDM scene up in NorCal alive and kicking. You talk shit about Dyloot being a local dj playing out a lot, and what the fuck are Gabriel and Dresden then? NOT LOCAL???
And don't talk shit about Deep Voices either, 'cause you obviously don't know what an amazzzzzing success they are having with their new tracks.(Insert: For those that unfamiliar with who Deep Voices are, Deep Voices, aka Dyloot and Steve Baltes). first, 3 of the new tracks are already signed to 2 labels(Noizest, Italy and Adjusted, UK with remixes coming from Thrillseekers, and one of the tracks will be featured on Blank & Jones next Mixed CD Album), second: http://www.arminvanbuuren.com/playlist/episode194/ pay close attention to track number 17(though Armin missed a letter in their artist name, lol.) Third. Dyloot will actually join Steve on stage for the very first time to do a LIVE PA with Steve, w00t w00t, can't wait to see this.
Maybe you should start thinking of Tom Slik and Dyloot as Residents, which means they'll be playing at 99% of their events, there is that better now, cause that's exactly what they are, resident DJs.

If you want to go see G&D that's fine, but please don't talk shit about other DJs/producers and their events. Simply put, no one is forcing you to go to events you wish not to attend.

Cheers...

Posted by DaveT on May-04-2005 17:18:

You are comparing them with G&D?

Come on. G&D play here once every 4-6 months. Last time they played a scheduled gig was in January and the next time they play is at the end of this month. They might be from here, but it's made sure they are not overexposed. Dyloot and the rest Skills team can often be found playing around here once or twice a week.

The point I am trying to make is that they are bringing in a few DJs that don't get to come around much. But they still get lame one hour sets. And the rest of the time is filled in by local Skills DJs, which we can see several times a month if we wished.

With Deep Voices, OK I'll give them some credit...but should they have the prime headlining spot? Ummm, no. The talent being brought in from Europe for this big event should get the proper slots.

This isn't about who's the better producer.

In the end, this is typical of Skills. Even on their Ten15 nights. The headliners typically get 2 fricken hours...just because the rest of the night is carefully lined up with the rest of the Skills team. These are DJs who typically play at least 3-4 hours in other cities when they play the US...but are stuck to 2 hours because they get into the booth, play the 2 hours, and at the end the Skills DJ is crowding all around him not even giving him the choice to play longer if he wants.

MarcoV is gonna play for 2 1/2 hours, though...woooooooooohhhh, maybe they are slowly changing. Although 2 1/2 hours for Marco V is still bullshit, IMO.

I love Skills for the DJs they are bringing in. I give them props for that all around. It's just how they handle the nights from there with the booking times and the lame ass, disrespectful crowds.

Until they change the tactics with the set times (I can deal with the crowds, must say the crowd at Kyau-vs-Albert was nice for once), I will keep on stating my opinion. And trust me, I think I'm in the majority here (excluding Skills fanboys) who thinks the same thing here...

Skills has the potential to be so much bigger than they currently are (and I don't mean in normal attendance)...just need to work on a couple things, IMO.
