Commerical Dance music works in daytime. Otherwise, how did they last for 3 years running. I hear alot of complains on TA saying how 103.5KTU was being cheesey radio station or Energy 92.7 and 5. Not alot of people has respect for Commerical Dance Music. If a bunch of TA wanted to create nice radio station, you guys have to have cheese to survive in the Radio business. It was risky enough for people in COX, Big City Radio, and Entravision to put out a Dance Station such as Party 93.1. Try to ask Clear Channel or CBS/Infinity Broadcast to put on Dance station in your neck of woods, see what happenes, they would laugh at you. The downfall of Party 93.1 from the way I looked at, they lost the live broadcast priviage in Space, secondly, the over played tracks in the daytime, thirdly scheduling mix shows should've of been little different.

it's not that commercial dance doesn't have respect... Party was ignoring all the current european chart topping dance tunes for old freestyle and top40 pop remixes.

first off Gerry and fallingmoon hit it right in the head with all the reasons why Party had lost its appeal. They pointed out the one thing that really annoyed me which was all the gayness that station had, listening to all that fag crap really turned me off to the radio station,It gave us real EDM straight guys a bad name.
freestyle was ok, i grew up listening to that stuff , but it was being overplayed. I remember when Party began they actually played some trance tracks during the day, but the last couple of years like you guys say notin but pop remixes.I basically stop listening to party except for Acostas Sunday night show (GDJB was on way to late there was no way in hell Id stay up because I have to go to work and school on monday, and the guy played nothing but prog, pefect to get people to sleep on a sunday night....) In my car I would just listen to CDs

as for the rock..Just like Party I stopped listening to Zeta too because all that new rock shit they were playing sucked, its gotten so bad in rock that there are chicks now that have deeper voices than the guys, and all the bands guitar sounds sound the same now. rock 93 whatever its called now is actually playing good rock and metal now, but Im scared that just like party when it went to purely pop remixes ,rock 93 will go back to whats considered "new popular rock old zeta crap",which I can already feel its way coming.

This whole Party failure is a good lesson on how not to run a dance station. If we TA's can make a station knowing the past mistakes Im sure we can have success.Get newbies to listen to what is real EDM and losing the gayness perception they might have of it.

This is truely a threat to the edm community for South Florida -

Global DJ Broadcast...I had many fond nights, and reading many great chat transcipts, with Tigerclaw, Mdamon, even Markus sometimes as he popped in. Chatting a bit with a few of the guest DJ's, and reviewing each song that was being played, while dissecting each instrument/synth. *Sighs*

Those were the days...I'll be pumping all of my favorite EDM CD's...I'll be blasting EDM out of my speakers, with my windows down while driving. RIP party 93.1...loved the July 4th concerts. Goodbye. -Mental

Couldn't have said it better myself. Don't know much about the rock scene and what's good or not so I cant judge ZETA and 93 Rock for myself.

Party wasn't all that hot when it started tho. If you liked hearing Sylver - Turn The Tide every hour, then maybe it was good for you. I'd rather hear Traffic every other hour than that song. Party had some way played out club anthems when it started, so I wasn't a satisfied listener since the beginning. Right before they left, they were playing some good current tracks but that was only 10% of what they played. So I guess you could say it was better when it started.

Acosta eh.. no comment

Prog puts you to sleep? o_0 I think it's good stuff for dancing anyway... keeps me up.. I'll be honest that Paul Oakenfold show puts me to sleep. Sometimes he'd play a badass tune then mix it in with some boring ass Madonna remix.

yeah? says who? It could be a good thing... the death of Party prevents EDM from being too gay. Now EDM is going underground again... that's good... if Party were around for 10 more years, acting as stupid as they did, dance music would probably be the queerest shit to listen to.

From what I'm listening y-100 is including more dance music in their format... I wonder if Power96 has anything in mind. If the "Cool" stations pick up EDM, than EDM will be "cool" again. I wouldn't be surprised if power96 didn't after all the shit party 931 said about them. What goes around comes around. I bet the power96 staff is sitting there having a big gloatfest.

Posted by TigerClaw on Feb-20-2005 03:27:

One of the reason for the downfall of the station is the scheduling of the mix shows, Something I always had issues with cause its always on so late, then I have to sleep all morning and getting up in the afternoon missing most of my day, The shows would've been better of if they started at the 8:00pm est times rather then 12:00am.

Posted by gerrycueto on Feb-20-2005 03:42:

yeah the mix shows were great... there should be a mix show radio station :P

Global DJ Broadcast 107.1fm all GDJB all the time

Posted by Eddie N MIAMI on Feb-20-2005 04:26:

yea Tiger hopefully GDJB will start earlier.I mean even like lets say 10pm is good enough.
Gerry your right about Oakies show, I never liked it either
Im really sure Power 96 wont change its playlist , that station has gotten way to "ghetto" lol. EDM Radio in Miami is temporarily dead.
BTW Ive lost touch with what the FIU station 88.1 has done, they used to(or still do but what time?) had a pretty good trance and DnB show on tuesday nights with a guy named Kano and i forget the other guys name...

Just prior to the birth of Party 93.1, Power 96's format was pretty diverse in terms of Trance/Hip Hop and Pop. I even remember hearing about 3-4 trance songs in their top songs of the year in the TOP 5 and TOP 10.. I even remember hearing Out Of The BLue winning this one show where they did battles of Trance and some Hip Hop or Pop song for over a week ! ... Power 96 for the turn on the millenium, had a very nice Trancey way to celebrate it, with Parker & Clind - Teleportation as the anthem, hearing Xpander on power 96 that day after 12 AM midnite.. and having them do this millenium show where they mentioned Gatecrasher Millenium Dome, Ibiza's party @ Manumission, making people think that they were going to be around the globe on this big as party's lol.. but it was funny that they even mentioned Seb Fontaine as a big ass DJ ( I wonder on Power 96 who would even know him but they still talked bout him )..... surprised me... Power 96 had a much better way and idea to respect this music if it comes to knowledge.. On their trance mixes you would hear rare songs and remixes besides the Trance playlist they had.. that was a BIG plus plus.. so if anything, I would say that power really kicked off the scene with this music.. it was a push for Party 93.1 to pick it up.. Party did NOT know how to manage it.. the only good thing was that in their first year of working, they transmitted live on WMC from various party's, among them the Cream one with Sandra Collins and others. But after that, just blah..... Late night LAboratory moved from Power to party, Nocturnal Sessions and GDJB and Oakey's show, besides that... repeated songs.

My friend DJ Ology has a house and trance show Saturdays at 5-7pm on 88.1fm

and Y-100 is assuming more dance trax since the crash of Party 931

so EDM on the radio isn't dead... if it is, it's Party's fault for all the crap they've done... I'd be very hesitant to play their dance music if I were a pop radio station.

Yeah Power 96 was MUCH better! Their 5 oclock traffic jam kicked Party 's adrenaline mix's ass. At least power 96 played good trance, and some cheese here and there, but party was mostly cheese.

Posted by TigerClaw on Feb-20-2005 22:57:

The fact to the matter is, Non of the station is playing any dance music, If GDJB gets picked up by another miami station, Who would it be?, Since no station is playing anything dance music related.

Posted by gerrycueto on Feb-21-2005 00:17:

well Y-100 that I know of has been playing more of the party 931 cheese since party went down.

Power 96 opened alot of eyes to EDM here in south florida in the late 90s, including myself.Listening to the late night Labratory was really cool.
about Y-100 , that station is way to pop oriented for a trance show.Maybe Oakenfold can have a show on there but thats it.
Gerry Ill listen to that 88.1 radio show if I have a chance.

Y-100's broadcasts from Club Level were massive... I think they broadcasted Dumonde from there.

Power 96 can slowly evolve into something else... Power 96 didn't start out ghetto... it slowly started introducing one rap song here and there till more and more came in and it finally became a rap station... If anything Power 96 might jump on the EDM train by playing one track once in a blue moon... like I dono Castles in the Sky, then reintroducing other classics over time, then finally some new ones... then after many years power 96 is a dance station again.

I know they did, But they turned there back on dance music and lots of people, Including myself are upset about it.

yo 93.1 was the shit .. acosta OMGGGGGGGG! they need to make a goddamn trance station in NYC/NJ .. pissin me off..

Posted by TigerClaw on Feb-21-2005 08:57:

Party931.com is planning some sort of relaunch, Turning it into an online only web radio, It could fail, If they don't upgrade there streams, They need more then just a 56k stream, They need higher quality streams like 128k, 160k, or 192k if they want to suceed, Nobody is gonna want to listen to a webradio thats broadcasting in such poor audio quality as 56k, So we'll see how this relaunch will be, But that will not change the fact they turned there backs on EDM on the FM feed, Many of us are now left in the cold, As there is not a single station in south florida, Thats playing dance music, Also think about how this is going to affect Ultra this year, Party 93.1 used to heavily promote the Ultra Music Festival each year and I'm sure the event were getting more crowd then before, With this happening, Ultra may, Or may not have much of a crowd, Due to the lack of promotions and advertisement.
