i was reading some of the older replies to this topic and came across this, Highmay.... see, here you say "an occupation has nothing to do with vibe at a nightclub" in reply to something sandstorm03 said, yet HOW does this back up ur whole argument on keeping Crobar 21+.... an occupation AS well as the age limit has nothing to do with vibe at a nightclub.... like i said, ne club coulda brought in Tiesto, whether 18+ and 21+, and woulda had the same crowd... his name's on the newest "dance" CDs, of course ur gunna get a different crowd, now THAT is what has to do with vibe at a nightclub.

I'm saying that 18+ DOES create a different vibe at CROBAR. We aren't comparing to Avalon because Avalon is a cess pool no matter what.

Knowing someone that worked there, before Crobar had hidden ways of not allowing in people that didn't want in their clubs. Yes, it's exclusionary. They are obviously going for more money but the question remains, will that good vibe continue. To me, that's a concern.

Take away the good vibe, in the long run, it's less money.

Being a full-time gizmopper doesnt count as an occupation. nevertheless, just like its been said in almost every post the mentality of the younger crowd is different, whats so hard to comprehend? you read the yale newspaper dont you, it shouldnt be that hard. 21 and over attracts customers that are 30 years old and just want to have some fun as opposed to 18 and over where the age would approximate around 18-23/4 and most are wannabe toughguys walkin around with a stagger and others are on e dancin like pricks or in some k hole, in result the Minority is there just to have a low key fun time. Also, trying to relate crack and bottle of heineken is absurd. Well I haven't read the entire thread, and I don't intend to but I'd like to add my opinion to the little squabble going on.

I'm sick and tired of all the "mature" 21+ people here making the biggest generalizations I've ever had the mispleasure of reading. I happen to be 18 and I guarantee you that I'm more mature than half of you 21+ people. Being 21+ does not give you a carte blanche in terms of lambasting the 18+ crowd. Granted, most 18+ have their "teenage angst" problems to work out, but I still find it extremely irksome that they're getting blasted left and right for destroying the clubbing culture of New York City. I'd like to remind you all that my age group are the people that are going to inherent and carry on that culture, so cut them some slack. The fact of the matter is that 18, 19 and 20 year olds are going to be clubbing with you at some clubs, and not at others. That's the way it goes. So suck it up and get on with your lives. I may come to Sasha and bring some of my 18 year old friends. Are we going we going to bring about the apocalypse? No. So chill the fuck out, please.

I don't see why everyone would be against a club being 18? Arc was 18+ and it was generally agreed arc was one of the best enviroments in NYC nightlife...

I need to also mention that most of you 21+ers back when you were 18 were probably wishing you could get into something like this. So stop being fucking hypocrites.

Well, you can complain about generalizations as much as you want but the truth of the matter is that these generalizations are founded in reality. If you've ever actually been to a club that is in fact 21+ and strictly enforces its door policy, you'd realize how different the vibe is. It is a much more mature crowd and, no matter how mature you believe yourself to be, the fact that you and your peers are not in the club makes this very noticeable....

And yes, we did all wish we could get into clubs when we were under 21 but we're no longer under 21 now so obviously and rightfully, our opinions have changed. And yes, you can be an asshole too when you're 21+!

the validity is just same as saying,

blacks & italians & asians, and any other ethnic groups

shouldn't be let into clubs...

if you're that narrow-minded enough to think that a couple of bad apples make the "generalizations" about 18,19,20 y.o. clubbers "founded in reality", then thats sad.

and since I have been to my share of 21+ nights I can also say that besides a handful of parties in the city (spirit, crobar, china club, viscaya, etc.), almost everything else is a shitty house lounge or some little fancypants establishment playing house, rock and 80's with sketchy 25-30 year olds hitting on anything with 2 legs and a pussy, strutting around like they run shit and "are down with the young girls". I mean c'mon there's people at Lobby with gray hairs dancing yeah mature enough alright

Funny how the U.S. government deems 18 year olds not able to handle liquor consumption. But obviously they still must be just as mature and just as responsible as those 21+.... Funny how I didn't notice any state governments banning Asian or blacks into bars. I love how the race card is thrown in there as a comparison. That always gets things stoked up, even though it has no relevance to this case. So Crobar traditionally says 21+ only. But where are their parties that say whites only? So how is that a comparison?

I beg to ask the same question, how many of you 18 year olds have been in a 21+ and over event? So you're only comparing things on hearsay. That's not a convincing argument to me. Come back at 24 years old after partying your ass off for 3 years and tell me it's the same. Then I'll listen.

Basically, it's the 18-20 year olds on hear that need to chill out. All we're saying is that we think 21+ events are better from our personal experiences. Hard for me to tell another person who has experienced things again and again that "no, you're wrong in your opinion that parties 21+ are better.... but no I haven't ever been to one"

Nice generalization about 25-30 year olds. Unfortunately, I'm 28 and don't fall into your category described above. Young girls? I typically meet 24-25 year old girls when I'm 28. Man, I'm just robbing the cradle.

Stick to the point, we're talking DJ events at Crobar 21+ vs. 18+. Let's stop varying away to comparisons to China Club. China Club? That place is a sleaze infested shit box. They play hip hop and caters to 30+ crowd. Crobar caters to 21-early 30's who like EDM. Big difference.

Don't compare Avalon either because that is like comparing an apple to a pile of shit.

but for those of us who have been to 21+ nights by means of promoting, dj'ing, fake ID's, etc. our opinions can be valid, but obviously different. I appreciate all the TA's who are 21+ clubbers and don't just go around bashing 18, 19, 20 y.o.'s because everyone else their age is anal about it. The bottom line is, if you are succumbed to believing in stereotypes and therefore promoting them ,then you need a reality check. We didn't start this thread, we never brought up the issue until you did, so we were chill to begin with.
