How clever. A man and his opinion killed the most popular genre of EDM, a dutch superstar trance fag didn't. That makes sense.

however, the truth is that its recylced.

Recycling a sound over -and -over is the classic example of what it means to be cheesey.

An artist can get by unnoticed 'copying' a sound but not an entire genre, like what Dutch Trance did.

I am not trying to be condescending but rather explain myself. If you disagree with me than prove me wrong with proof.

there's no 'proof' or 'wrong' - at least not from the perspective i've got. music is art, and we're discussing its appreciation. proofs are three doors down in the science lab, thanks.

your idea: those who like trance say trance is evolving and maturing as a genre, but i cant see it. therefore, they must be stupid or naive, since it couldn't possibly be that there is change going on that i am unable to appreciate or pick up on.

my idea: once you lose the 'love' for a genre, you lose the ability to see music from that genre from the same perspective as one who actively and presently enjoys it. all rap since public enemy and vanilla ice sounds the same to the average 40-year old - not because they're stupid, but because they are unwilling and/or unable to have an intimate grasp of the sonic, tonal and rhythmic relationships and themes. this includes those 40-year olds that used to listen to their public enemy albums every day in the 80s (when they *did* have that grasp).

which is not to say that watching the progtrolls tut-tut the ferry-fanboys will ever get tiring.

Many interesting and well written posts here, aside from the troll that jumps in now and then. One of the few threads that I actually feel smarter after reading.

Ishkurs Guide offended me slightly at first, but I got over it and I do see the correctness of many things he's writing. An articulate smartass, much like our Ory

This one made me laugh out loud:

No, much credit to you for not fighting fire with fire. If you had, this thread would have ended up in just another flamewar.

Ferry is a good DJ, really talented, he didn't kill trance but he certainly changed it... for the better??? I dunno, that's what we should discuss

Yea I gotta admit, I like the way this thread is turning out, instead of forcing views down each others throat, just give your view and let people pick and choose what they want to hear.

I just wanna add, were not gonna end up with a perfect ending to the thread, were not all gonna end up saying trance is dead, or trance is living, its gonna be different for everyone, we all have our different tastes in music, which I am glad, I wouldn't want a world where we all listen to the same music.

Agreed.

There are other producers with far more responsabilities than Ferry on this issue

I think the stuff ishkur says is more about the attitudes of the subcultures that form around various styles than the sounds themselves.

He shoots down alot of bullshit that is in massive circulation about various musics, which I think is a good thing to do. I haven't read everything he has said(cuz he writes sooooo much stuff), but the big picture that I see when I read his stuff is that he is against music that gets limited to a certian crowd of people, and prefers the old style of rave where all kinds of different people could come and listen to different styles on the same night.

The progressive "forward thinkers", the jungle mah-siv, the blissed-out trance kiddies, the techno snobs; every one of these groups is kind of squishing the rave phenomenon to their own little subculture, and I think ishkur realizes that this goes against the original idea behind this kind of party, thus he exposes all the bullshit things people say to raise their little part of the crowd above everyone else.

Whats neat about TA is that we don't all fall into the same little subculture, we are all very different yet we can still have fun posting about stuff(if it wasnt fun then people whouldnt keep coming here)

What kills trance is the lack of diversity, the sounds just aren't as interesting when everybody is emulating the superstar on the top of the popularity list. When a crowd of retards unites under one sound they horde the scene and keep all the people who don't fit in with them from having a good night.

Listening to ferry or tiesto doesnt make you a retard, immature, stupid, or mean that you must be a newbie, I can think of so many friends who like this stuff that dont fit those descriptions. But, it is important to realize that there is more out there and there is much more fun to be had when you don't isolate your style from the others who like to dance too.

Anyway, that what I interpret as the moral of ishkur's rantings, people just need to stop getting full of themselves and realize that they aren't really superior to the others that like different things, so if you are listening to nothing but ferry, then you might be a tit noob or a retard and all that.

Probably. If trance were a blonde, blue-eyed guy these jackasses would have buttsex with him all day and night.

Why are you such a wanker? Why do you have to call him a fag? I read once that you type insults on tranceaddict for your own amusement...what kind of a sad **** are you?

By the way the music you wanted ID for is shite

Because you deserve it...I have read your posts and I think you are a wanker.

Now, you calling Ferry Corsten a fag because you don't like his music......

Incidentally the music you require ID'd is shit
