Yeah but a lot of those guys are pitching in the National League, which I think is quite a bit easier. Plus, the pressures of NYC aren't for everyone. Weaver isn't having as good of a year as LY. Vasquez though has shown he can thrive in a smaller market. Halsey won't be that great but has done quite well so far. I wish the Yanks had Brazoban back though.

Moose is shutting down the A's again so far tonight. Coming in, he's only allowed 2 ER's in the last 18 innings so I hope he has found his old groove. But yeah, the A's really suck hitting wise so not a great comparison.

But looks like possible 6 in a row after tonight.

Contreras has been pretty damn solid

Yeah, you're right. He is the biggest surprise to me of all the ex-yanks. He has wicked stuff but never seemed to have that mentality to buckle down when needed. But your comment reminded me of El Duque. He's really been pitching well and I think he influences Contreras in a good way.

Here's the ex-Yank pitching staff for 2005

SP - Andy Pettitte
SP - Javier Vasquez
SP - Orlando Hernandez
SP - Jose Contreras
SP - Brad Halsey

6th starter/Middle Relief - Jeff Weaver

Lef - Chris Hammond
RP - Jeff Nelson
RP - Bob Wickman

C - Yhancy Brazoban

Pretty solid pitching staff so far....

Yeah, he came up through the Yanks farm system and was with them his first few seasons many moons ago. He was always the guy who had a good sinker because the tips of his fingers were chopped off.

Never expected them to turn it around so much this season. And speaking of the World Series, what was the last time White Sox won it all?

im just as surpised at the white sox as everyone else and ive been a lifelong sox fan. it wasnt until about a week ago that we started getting top billing on the local news stations over the cubs. the pitching has been great but the hitting has been suspect. if things continue like this i could see us trying to get a hitter at the deadline (hopefully a power lefty).

i think the last time we won it all was 1917 followed by the scandal in 1919.

I am amazed that they are doing this without Frank Thomas.....man i think they are all scared of Ozzie Guillen...he has called alot of them out in the media several times and jeez the things he said about Magglio ordonez...wooo.Guess they knew what they were doing by trading lee for Podsednik...it is also nice to see That Mark Buehrle has some other good arms backing him up.All in all a good story so long as no more fans jump out of the crowd to beat up any elderly first base coaches

Posted by Acid Circus on May-14-2005 22:15:

So much for the Mulder Pedro pitching duel then. Still a cracking game and nice to see Miguel Cairo do his bit for his old team

Jason Isringhausen looks good despite walking two in the last, 8 saves out of 8 this year, the cards bullpen is doing its job this year yet again!

Posted by King Ecnal on May-15-2005 00:57:

Does anyone else dream of Ken Griffey Jr. ever getting the chance to be on an AL club again??? I mean, he can't exert himself in CF, with his crappy hamstring, well his old legs and all.... dare I say it... I'd actually enjoy seeing Jr. DHing for the Yanks... I just miss the glory days when Jr. was the best player EVER... but the rumors say IF he's going anywhere, it's NYY, or ATL... of course, who's going to pay for his 12.5 mil..... pipe dream I suppose...

Miguel Cabrera is the shit also.... I hope he never wears the Yankee pinstripes....

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on May-15-2005 01:36:

I actually see Piazza being traded to an a.l. team to dh before Ken griffey jr.and yeah i miss watching him running down fly balls and hitting for power an d average and being able to steal bases....such a shame

The Network Associates Coliseum is now McAffee Coliseum?

The yankees...where are they now.

ALL-CASTOFF TEAM

A team of former Yankees prospects holds more promise than George Steinbrenner's current $206 million collection.

First base: Nick Johnson, Nationals. Sent to the Expos in the Javier Vazquez trade.

Second base: Alfonso Soriano, Rangers. Traded for Alex Rodriguez.

Shortstop: Joaquin Arias, Rangers. The player to be named in the Rodriguez trade, he's a highly regarded prospect at Class AA.

Third base: Mike Lowell, Marlins. Traded to the Marlins for three career minor league pitchers.

Catcher: Dioner Navarro, Dodgers. Currently at Class AAA, he was sent to the Diamondbacks in the Randy Johnson trade then flipped to the Dodgers for Shawn Green.

Right field: Juan Rivera, Angels. Part of the Vazquez deal.

Center field: Wily Mo Pena, Reds. Traded for third baseman Drew Henson, who now is a quarterback with the NFL's Cowboys.

Left field: Ricky Ledee, Dodgers. Traded to the Indians along with pitchers Jake Westbrook and Zach Day for outfielder David Justice.

Righthanded starter: Westbrook. Part of the Justice deal.

Lefthanded starter: Ted Lilly, Blue Jays. Traded to the A's in a three-team deal in which the Yankees acquired Jeff Weaver and the Tigers wound up with Jeremy Bonderman.

Righthanded reliever: Yhency Brazoban, Dodgers. Included with Weaver in a trade for Kevin Brown.

Lefthanded reliever: Damaso Marte, White Sox. Traded to the Pirates for infielder Enrique

Well, actually, Yankees are now all of a sudden on a roll. They won, like, their 8 or 9th straight game. They've been beating up badly on their opposition. I always expected them to come back - just like the last year's slow start. Watch my word - they'll win that division this year, as much as I'll hate that to happen.

Cream always rises to the top ...

Eric Milton - Statrer for the Reds...traded to the Twins for Chuck "Watch out" Knoblauch

Yep ... It's an amazing start to the season for D-Train (hehe, D Train is a name for a cool disco artist I like, hehe) it will be the toughest year yet for my Braves. Marlins are almost for sure set to make playoffs this year. Especially when my Braves' Kolb keeps blowing the saves ... f-cking terrible closer, I hate him ...

for all the great work Leo Mazzone did with the pitchers, why Kolb sucks is a big to me

He is the benchmark for guys who couldn't handle the pressure of new york...guy had what one error in 5 previous years with twins and then forgets how to throw to first base..but he was a great on base guy...Yanks also gave up tori Hunter and Cristian guzman in that trade

But will they keep rising before Kevin Browns arm turns to cream again

Knoblauch actually had a good year or two before he started to melt down. And he had some big hits that won championships too. Eric Milton is nothing special. Not the greatest trade though obviously overall...

Brown never has problems with his pitching arm except his hand when he's punching a wall. It's always his bad back and his two cent head. I couldn't hate anybody more than him! Jaret Wright isn't gonna help either. Trade talk about Roger Clemens down the road I think is ridiculous, not gonna happen.

Yanks 7 in a row with Big Unit pitching today.

It's gonna be a flat out war this year in the AL East. Baltimore isn't gonna go away and Boston will definitely be there too. I don't know about the Yanks... we'll see.

I think the White Sox are gonna fade with Minnesota winning it again. Seems kind of obvious to me but who knows....

He punched the wall with his left hand

It's interesting to see if he can get back on top of his game...

I HATE him so much ... I wish Braves could RELEASE him, he's ruining the team. I cant believe Braves traded for him from Milwaukee, he's terrible. What the hell is Mazzone thinking ... The guy just cant pitch.

Here's a secondary solution: put him on disabled list

or

send him to AAA Richmond for a bullshit assignment.

what is your take on interleague play? I honestly think it's a great idea, but one team should move to the AL and just have it year round, sorta like what the NFL does.

I dont mind, I will be completely satisfied though if all teams in any specific division will play SAME interleague team(s) in the same home/away format to be fair with the schedule.

Cause this is the current format: Braves are playing Red Sox, and Marlins are playing Devil Rays ... no fair!

So, anybody ready to rant about the Yankees being too old, too overpaid and not hungry enough? Look out...the Bombers are en route.

As I said earlier about the Yankees on this thread:

"Cream always rises to the top."
