Anyone with any interest in science simply MUST read Bill Bryson - Short history of nearly everything.

The book covers a lot of ground from "How was the universe formed?", to "How was the mass of the earth first calculated". It tells the story of Einstein, Newton, and many other often unknown scientists who are responsible for the state of science today.

Usually science books are dull, and full of very low level explanations that require deep knowledge of the subject. Not this one ! If you like science, or interested in history - you will find difficult to put this book down until you finish reading it.

Incredible book !

Honestly, I'm thinking about buying this book now from the way you described it -- and what it appears to go into!

I'd love a read like that!

Thank Ilyia! Cheers - Jem.

I'm reading Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche. I recommend it if you are in to heavy, wordy, books that are meant to confuse and inspire thought.

Darwin: The Indelible Stamp; The Evolution of an Idea

Its a completel collection of 4 of Darwin's most popular works:
1)Voyage of the Beagle
2)The Origin of Species
3)The Decent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex
4)The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals

I've barely even cracked it yet.. but I'm already loving the hell out of it!

I'm so glad it's the summer so that I can catch up on some of my own reading. During the school year, I find it really hard to do any extra reading.

Thomas Freidman - The World is Flat (finally going to finish it)
The Tipping Point - Malcolm Gladwell

Those are the next 2 books on my list to read.

A Million Little Pieces is probably the most common book I see being read on the subway.

We have this book at work as one of our cheap remainders. I had always thought about buying it! Let's hope I can find it...and I'll give it a read.

Andrea, this woman is my current favorite author. She has written three books and I have adored each one of them. Longer, more difficult reads, no shit chic lit.

Zadie Smith
- On Beauty
- White Teeth
- Autograph Man

My favorite was the essay about saved by the bell, so fucking funny!

Presently reading a couple of fantasy novels...

but the one I'm actively reading at this moment is the 9th novel in my FAVOURITE fantasy series ever of all time:

CHAINFIRE by Terry Goodkind, in the Sword of Truth series!!

FUCKING SHIT! WOW! Its been over a year since I read the last novel, and WOW! The characters! I forget how much I fucking love them and the world Terry Goodkind has created!

This shit blows THE WHEEL OF TIME outta the water if you ask me - not to discredit that series though, it's phenomenal fantasy too... I'm pumped to read the latest book that just came out as well!

The last book I read was Night by Elie Wiezel (Holocaust Survivor). It is a short book and you can read it easily in 3-4 hours. Probably one of the best books I've read in a long time and one that stayed on my mind for a few days after. I am now reading "The Torment of Others" by Val McDermid..this is a crime book and really like how the author goes into the mind of a murderer.

I saw Yohan's sci-fi book thread and thought I'd revive this one.

I got so many books this year from the bookstore I work at due to all of the sales, but I haven't touched any of them yet. I have so many to choose from I don't know where to start...but even with all of my choices, I still always want to read Helter Skelter again!

I'm stealing all your books.

Don't mind if few sneaky malevolent trees raid your house
