i agree that maybe a change in the openers may be a good idea. might be good for vaughn. i definately agree coll's for giles and pietersen ahead of bell. that way he can slog a ton before he loses all his partners.

Posted by Light The Fuse on Aug-02-2005 07:17:

u can change em all, still no hope...hehe we just had to get used to those sticky pom wicketz, no doubt will we win this series now...the next one...well thats a different story

Just heard on the news Collingwood has been released from the squad, so he won't be playing, Giles still in.

Now you're really stuffed England!

tell me about it. being about 40 miles from bham, if it's anything like here it's a cloudy start, so there may be a thing for bowling first, but until i see the pitch I won't know

History says bowl first apparently. (going from previous results).

And why oh why would you say this before a series is over:
"I've watched it again and again on television and it still looks a legspinner to me."
Ian Bell on padding up to Shane Warnes straight ball at Lords

Its just giving Warnie instructions on how to beat him!

Bell is resourceful though, so he may have secretly picked it, and hope to use it to his advantage, ie. get warne to bowl them down, and have a tactic for disposing of them.

jesus, glenn mcgrath injured in the pre-match warmup, just seen pictures on our news & he was carried off the ground after his ankle gave way on him, not sure if he'll make it, but from those pictures, I would say it's doubtful (Plus im currently nursing ligament damage to my ankle from a similar fall and 2 weeks on im sore as fuck)

Posted by Ian on Aug-04-2005 09:07:

yeah, no mcgrath, the friendly ghost is in

Posted by resisted on Aug-04-2005 09:11:

ponting won the toss again

england are batting first.

Thats a big loss for the aussies. Hopefully Dizzie Gillespie can step up.

Posted by Ian on Aug-04-2005 12:33:

bollocks, tres walks

Posted by Ian on Aug-04-2005 12:39:

bollocks, I know Bell is a better player than this, I hope we don't drop him as he's got the potential, he's taken shit in the press for no reason other than ex players like atherton get paid to be wankers. get behind youngsters like him, he's as good as michael clarke easily

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Aug-04-2005 13:04:

shit it was awful. i was watching lost and was moving about a bit on the beanbag, and somehow i managed to change the channel to the cricket. had no idea where the remote was, took me a good 30 seconds to find it. almost didnt make it and just managed to avoid falling asleep

Posted by Philby on Aug-04-2005 13:58:

Glenn McGrath was ruled out of the second Test shortly before the start of play on Thursday, after suffering a freak injury during Australia's pre-match warm-up. He is now a major doubt for next week's third Test at OId Trafford as well, having sustained a grade two tear to the lateral ligaments of his right ankle.

McGrath, 35, trod on a stray cricket ball during a game of touch-rugby and had to be helped into a groundsman's buggy by his team-mates. His place in the side was taken by fellow seamer Michael Kasprowicz, who picked up five wickets in the drawn warm-up match against Worcestershire this week.

"Glenn rolled his ankle during the early stages of training," Errol Alcott, the team physiotherapist, told AFP. "There's nothing obvious in the X-rays regarding bone abnormalities but we are awaiting further expert reports from a radiologist this [Thursday] afternoon." McGrath returned to the dressing-room where his foot was elevated while the injury was iced.

Australia's captain, Ricky Ponting, won the toss and chose to bowl first even though his spearhead was sidelined. "I guess the good thing about it is that Kasper took five wickets in the tour game during the week so he's in pretty good touch as well and I'm looking forward to seeing him bowl."

This is the first Ashes Test McGrath has missed since Sydney in 2003 where England won by 225 runs. At Lord's, where Australia won the first Test by 239 runs, McGrath became only the fourth bowler to take 500 Test wickets, as Australia went 1-0 up in the five-Test series.

i did a similar thing 2 weeks ago, put my foot in a hole in the grass that wasn't visible and tbh, 2 weeks on it still hurts like a bitch & i cant put much workload on it, so mcgrath will be lucky if he's back next week imho

i have a feeling mcgrath is in better physical condition than you hehe. so maybe it will be quicker for him to come back.

ligament injuries take imo a month no matter what condition to feel fully good about it. I can bowl off about 3 steps atm for some leg spin, but can't run, which is something glenn has to be able to do

Ah crap!

I've been at the pub for trivia night and totally forgot about the cricket. It's a damn shame to hear about McGrath, but hopefully we can pull through and woop some pommy behing.

Go the aussies!!!!

Posted by TCB on Aug-05-2005 03:21:

solid first day by the boys. we could of easily got to 500 if someone went on and made a century but you cant complain about making 407 against australia.

pietersen what a gun and it was about time him and flintoff put together a big partnership. they hit 6 sixes while they were out there together. was almost like a one day match out there. right from the start strauss and trescothick were playing like it was a one dayer lol. truely entertaining.

hope pietersen can get a ton in the 2nd innings. wouldnt that be something!!

Posted by Ian on Aug-05-2005 09:41:

stick that one in your cookbook hayden, and Ponting was lucky pietersen didn't hit the stumps there

Posted by Ghostface on Aug-05-2005 10:49:

Damn things can turn so quickly. Oh well, good to see England with their heads up and sticking it to us.
