Odyssee of Noises - Firedance is the first thing that "pops" in my head.

As for as Trance with vocals goes Andain - Summer calling (Airwave progressive mix

Push
Cosmic Gate
Johan Gielen (His earlier days)
Svenson
Darude (Definately had an impact on TONS of the EDM community)
DJ Jean (Yes in his earlier days also)

Trance Energy is where all these would play.

I am not too fond of Armin Van Buuren being booked at Trance Energy. He does not play the type of trance Cosmic Gate or anybody else on the list, would play. They're more hard trance, and booking Armin and those people who play what he does, is taking away the tradition of Trance Energy, and ruining Trance itself.

I'll have to say BT - Flaming June

Trance Energy never was an event that definied the trance sound. It's more like a pop event with not the best but the currently most favourite djs playing there. And they don't necessarily have to know how to mix (DJ Jean for instance). DJ Jean never was a trance DJ in his early days. He was playing hiphop and stuff.
And allow me to smile when you mention Darude. It's like saying that Britney Spears defined the popmusic.

i'd say that

li kwan - point zero (original)

pretty much defines the current epic trance the best IMO (not all trance, only epic!). this one tune made in 1994 IMO did it better than any tune after it pretty much.

but i really won't say what tune defines trance as a whole as i believe that there's no such thing

Veracocha - Carte Blance
Three Drives - Greece 2000
The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia
Solar factor - Urban Shakedown
Cafe Del Mar

I'm surprised that Chicane - Saltwater hasn't been mentioned.
I think it's a good culmination of the epic trance sound

Uplifting

I don't have ANY problems naming the track that is the definition of uplifting trance.

Cosmicman - I love you

Most certainly not. None of the tracks I've heard from him really sound like trance, either old or new... certainly not the very definition of those genres.

Makes sense. For your education, take a listen to L.S.G. - Blueprint, that's a pretty good definition of real trance if you ask me.

In my mind it's definitely System F - Out of the Blue

Listen to cosmic gates 2002 Trance Energy set. Tell me that isn't a freaking energetic set. It is still my favorite set ever.

Big Ears

Friends, Lovers & Family - Tribute

That is the real deal right there.

DuMonde - Never Look Back

Flutlicht - The Fall

Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel

Binary Finary - 1998

Mr Oz and Larry Lush - Under The Wire.

And that live drum roll sound makes me do the air drum thing every time. Doesn't look as cool as the air guitar...

i wouldn't say it was.. chicane had a very unique air to his productions that few other trance producers could get anywhere near, and the overall groove is alot less driving than most epic trance. as much as i love it to pieces i wouldn't call it very representative of trance, i like it in a different way to the way i like most trance
