so all the victorian teams are out of the finals yet again

how long will it be before the grand final is played outside of victoria?
It's a national competition, that's the way it's going to go from time to time. Was a little surprised at Ron Barassi's comments in the Herald Sun today - really, why should the AFL have an 'inquiry' into why the victorian teams are not doing so well? You can't praise a national competition, yet continue with the 'us' vs. 'them' rhetoric imo.
What goes around, comes around imo. As recent history has shown, those teams who are 'up' at the moment, will be replaced by those who are not in the coming years - all of these teams (bar Adelaide to a degree) were at the bottom of the pile ten years ago, and those who were at the top, are now at the bottom - that's what the draft was supposed to do (well not exactly) and it seems to be working perfectly. Those teams who can manage their lists the best and still be sucessfull will be the sucessfull ones, and that's got nothing to do with where you're situated. Sure money may have some say in it (with respect to facilities etc), but imo talent, good coaching (and the obligatory amount of luck) count for more than that. The Kanagroo's of the 90's were a perfect example.
Will be an interesting next few years, and i think the competition is looking healthier than ever - if the Bulldogs, StKilda and Melbourne are the Victorian teams at the top of the pile, then it's another example of how money means nothing. The Bulldogs were running on adrenaline, and unfortunately that won't win you premierships, in fact imo you've got to lose a few big games before the playing group actually has the real desire to win a premiership more than the next team. The Saints had some bad luck, but they've had more than their fair share of chances as well so will be interesting to see what's next for them.
I never rated Sydney at all last year, and even said after they won that they fluked it a bit with a bit of luck on their side, but i'd have to say that imo they might be about to prove a lot of people like me wrong. I think it will be a Crows vs Swans GF. In '98 when the crows won the flag, Neil Craig was their fitness coach and devised a training program that involved training them harder than usual mid year, with the possible sacrifice of some wins late in the season due to fatigue, to ensure they were the fittest team come september. Seems an awful lot like De Ja Vu at the moment...

i think as soon as the contract with the MCG comes up for review they will play the grand final interstate. i think telstra stadium will be the most likely venue because it is the only other ground that has a large enough capacity. i dont think the grand final will be played anywhere outside of melbourne or sydney until the other states build stadiums capable of holding 80,000.
agree with you about the melbourne clubs millson in the next couple of years melbourne clubs will come good.
The Grand Final is contracted to the MCG until about 2050 i think. It's also the best statdium in the southern hemisphere so i can't see any problem in always playing the GF there. It's also pretty much neautral territory these days with only three teams playing there regularly, so there is no real home ground advantage. It's the home of football, so it's fitting that the Grand Final should always be held there.
Adelaide beat a poor Fremantle two weeks ago, they played ok in the last quarter but they are going to be up against a nearly full strength WC now, a side which beat them by ~80 points not so long ago in the top of the table clash.
Sydney will brush off Fremantle with a minimum of fuss and WC should do the same to Adelaide with relative ease imo. If it's a WC v Swans GF, that will be another scorcher hopefully. Basically whether Sydney's midfield clog tactics can suppress Judd and Co and tbh I reckon WC will take it this year.
I reckon Carlton will go down the gurgler soon enough, the AFL can't keep supporting them with handouts over and over again. Kangaroos did the right thing with selling their home games but Melbourne and Carlton will be in the AFLs crosshairs I reckon.

| Originally posted by Ghostface Truth. Subiaco and AAMI can't hold enough people to justify moving it there from the MCG. Time differences in WA would affect TV as well. They might change to a Saturday night GF eventually though, the NRL one seems to work great and it gives the pplayers an extra 1/2 day recovery. |
Sydeny - Eagles GF.
Sydney are gonna do it again i think. They are looking good.
I hope WCE tka eit this year but Sydney are looking pretty good.
going to the GF next week..
i reckon that the eagles will win it this year...will try to figure out midweek who i want to win!!
i think the swannies might go back to back although im gonna be going for the eagles.
rumours floating around about tarrant possibly going to sydney. if sydney end up with everitt as well after next weekend they could be going for 3 peat.
still early days though
oh and west coast if they lose will be the new magpies (two grand final loses in consecutive years to the same team)
spewing im gonna miss the brownlow tomorrow night because of work.
its between goodwin/goodes/west/judd i think
im going with goodwin
there was an article in the age today that reckons either brad johnson or nick dal santo could poll the most votes based on performance throughout the year and both have pretty good odds. brad johnson had an insane season and it would be good to see him or scott west take it out.
C'arn the swannies!!!
i'll try and put the radio on out the back at work every now and again...
